She then proceeded to tell me to have a seat at a table she was waiting for some teachers to arrive at work and then she would be able to help me. She then proceeded to talk to a parent and it seemed to upset them. An infant laid in a carrier sleeping amongst 30 or so preschool children. It is a large room separated by bookshelves. It was really loud as teachers were trying to do circle yelling over each other. I sat for at least 20 minutes as children ran around and climbed on furniture and the teacher that greeted me talked on her cell phone outside the building. I've never been to a center that I felt I wouldn't trust leaving a child there for any length of time. I wouldn't trust the staff with any child or the director. Parents came and left instead of leaving their child they would take them. It's dirty and run down looking. I would skip this place and look for something better.

My daughter was diagnosed as having dyslexia in the 4th grade. I knew that she also needed extra support at home that I was not able to provide. I went to Sylvan and Kumon which provided me with conflicting reports from the school district. I finally had my own neuro - psychological report which took place over a few days which helped me to understand how to work with my daughter, but I still needed a education therapist. I went to Linda Mood Bell (recommended by psychologist) and paid for an expensive assessment as it is required for their program. I still did not feel comfortable as I knew that my daughter needed remediation before cognitive training. It seemed too much torture to have her there 5 days a week for 4 hours a day over the summer. I could not commit to spending a small fortune on something that I was not sure of and that was not customized to her needs. It was very stressful. It was then that I started to research private school specialized in learning difficulties and dyslexia. I visited Charles Armstrong and Los Altos Christian School....just to name a few...but I could not wait to apply for the next year or be on a wait list. Through research I knew that my daughter needed education therapy by someone who was trained in Slingerland methods. I did research online and found the Wunderling Learning Center through the Slingerland Institute site. My husand and I visited Ruthie who has extensive experience tutoring children with learning difficutlies. I felt at ease with her and confident in her abilities. She explained an ideal plan to work with my daughter which included assessments based on her observations working her as well as specific testing. Most of all we needed someone we could trust to work with our child. My husband and I decided to start off with 2 days a week of education therapy after school and started in July 2007. For the past several months Ruthie has helped us to work with our daughter at home, provided specific strategies to to address her learning issues and keeping focused. She has helped me through my daughters meltdowns over math and language arts. Ruthie has a talent to work with children and is commited to education. She also continues her education to provide additional services to her clients. She is now a PACE certified instructor and has added this as another tool to work with my daughter. It is February 2008 and my daugher got a 97% on her science test and has mainstreamed into a regular Math class. This is huge difference from last summer and my husband and I are very proud. We will continue with the education therapy with Ruthie. Do your research before making a commitment to put your child in any program. Many of the cookie cutter programs may try to take advantage of your need to provide for your child.

I wanted to write a further follow up on the PACE program now that we are a 1/2 a year into this…read moreprogram. I have seen remarkable changes in one of my children in relation to his test results - from a child that was average to a child that is now getting A's and B's on most of his tests. The only thing I can contribute this to is the PACE program. It has taught him techniques and ways to memories information. Last year he was nearly failing math - this year he's a A/B student. In science and history he is A+ - this program has given an average child a winning edge.

The staff there helps…read morehim with problem solving, revisits past grade level math and even have problems of the week where they can earn punches that lands them a treat or gadget. So far this is our third week, my son attends 3x a week with additional intervention at school which helps us a lot and also motivates curiosity and learning. Tutoring can be fun if you allow it to be! This program will definitely help engage his brain and prepare him for higher level math. This review is about Angela Sun's college counselling abilities. Our experience was exactly the…read moreopposite of what's written here and I would give negative stars if I could !! She was an absolute nightmare to deal with and has zero emotional intelligence or tact to deal with young teens !! She preys on parent's weaknesses and has clearly understood parents would do anything for their children as long as she says things like she got admission into MIT, Ivy's and self proclaims that she is the absolute best college consultant who will make your child write the absolute best essays he can ever write !! (I am paraphrasing it but she said something like that to me in our first meeting !). She made it amply clear even before I met for the first time that all she cares about is money and nothing else ! She charged me $300 per hr saying it's "the weekend rate" - whatever that means (although her website only mentions 250 per hr ). She was laser focused on the money in our conversations and showed zero interest in knowing my child before or after the meeting. Her website says parents will get a detailed report within 24 hrs of the first meeting, and we received no such report. The first meeting was a complete disaster. She was so rude (and please don't say she is strict/tough /good etc). No - she was plain rude and not good as a counselor !! My son was so scared of her that after a point stopped answering even basic questions ! She gave as little info as possible in the session and made it laborious by asking my son to type out literally every word that came out of her mouth (all of it was just general info and nothing anyone wouldn't know about college admissions)! Despite all these negative signals, I still tried to go ahead with scheduling a few more sessions, because believe it or not, my son insisted he wanted to try her a bit more before giving up ! I wanted to understand how many sessions my son would need and in her response she had the audacity to say my child was a "non high functioning" kid and hence would probably need many sessions (being vague and open ended of course to milk as much money as possible from me) ! The "genius" in her, inferred all this about my son from just the 1 hr meeting !! Not to brag - Honestly, my child is in a highly specialized gifted track at school and elsewhere and in fact the very reason I was looking for a counselor so early on was to make sure I give him all the advantages possible and guide him using the best counselors ! She quoted a ridiculous number of hours at the rate of $300 per hr and I told her , her website states she will only need 3-4 sessions for coming up with a 4 year plan and her response was "website is outdated " !!! (can you believe that ??) Parents, please be careful when choosing a counselor. Please make sure the counselor has the right emotional intelligence, credentials , experience to deal with your child in this vulnerable yet important stage of their life. Please don't select a counselor based purely on 5 star online reviews or what these counselors say they achieved for themselves. If in your initial interactions you detect the counselor's main focus is money, and not your child or if the counselor is rude, evasive about answering your questions , please take these red flags seriously and run miles away from her/him ! I am very thankful that I was able to detect this problem early on and not expose my child to a horrible 4 year counselling experience !
