I'll start with the positive - these guys don't try to upsell you or make unneeded repairs to your car. Also, when they do the work, it seems fine. Where they are lacking is that they don't necessarily diagnose problems unless they are specifically asked about. For example, had done some routine maintenance there and asked about brakes etc since it had been a while since they were replaced. Was told they were fine. Then went to the dealer who did an overall checkup, and they said they needed replacement. Went back to Ed's and asked again - they took a look and said yeah you should replace it. So they either did not check it the first time or were pretty lax about it. Appreciate that they don't try to oversell you which is great though it feels like they might be less diligent about checking things out specifically or keeping an eye out for things unless you specifically direct them to do it. The prices seem fair enough overall - not necessarily the lowest though not the highest. Would probably be best to use them if you are pretty knowledgeable about cars or know exactly what they should focus on, or for routine maintenance. read more

I have been going to Ed's for years. HONEST, RELIABLE and... GREAT WORK. How often can you truly say that?!

Ed's Service is hidden on a side street just outside downtown Peabody. I would not have known it was there if it had not been for the glowing recommendation of some long time customers. "Ed'll take care of ya" I was told. And take care he did. I called to make an appointment and described what I thought was going on. Now, keep in mind that I have no car knowledge to speak of, so I did what anyone would do to self-diagnose the problem. I went to the internet. Based on my research, I concluded there was a problem with the CV shaft and that it needed replacing. Here I was all proud of myself, thinking I was all smart and so happy to not sound like a complete moron talking to the mechanic. About an hour later, I received a phone call letting me know the CV shaft was fine, and that the only thing wrong with the car was I needed brakes, which turned out to be a much less expensive job that what I had originally thought was going to be needed. Sweet! I had dropped my car off early in the morning before business hours and was driving again by noon. Oh, and a pleasant, time-saving surprise, when I went to pick up my car, I saw a new inspection sticker was on there. I was due for one that month so they went ahead and took care of that for me. Everything about this experience was pleasant. The staff was courteous and professional every step of the way. I will return here the next time my car needs some work. read more

Horrible and scary! I brought my car there to get some services, they did a great job and I thought they took care of me until my check engine light came back on a few weeks later. I brought my car back, I stressed to them that I only want them to check the work they did on the car, both on the phone and in person. When I go back to pick up my car the guy had another bill waiting for me because he did extra work trying to find the issue. I told him I was sorry but I didn't think I should be held responsible I didn't ask him to check anything else. He grabbed the bill out of my hand and ripped it up, tossed my keys at me and told me to beat it! I asked to speak to a manager and he said "I am the manager now get the hell out of here you're not welcomed here" he was being so aggressive and rude that I got so scared and ran out and called my husband in case anything happened since there was no one else there besides him and myself. I am a loyal customer, when I find a company that works for me I stick to them, this however is a company I will never again use or refer anyone to, especially females! read more
