When the countryman died of engine failure at over 110k miles, in June I purchased another older mini cooper. This is when our relationship changed. It was burning oil at an alarming rate, smoke was coming out of the exhaust, almost always after idling for a lengthy time and sometimes upon starting the car. I had it accessed by Murrysville Auto and a part replaced with the stipulation being that might and might not resolve the issue pointing to possible engine issues. Fair enough. I was glad to have honest information to make the decision. When it still exhibited smoke from the exhaust, I immediately made another appointment to have it reaccessed. This time, instead of Cody (owner) who always had relayed the information to me in the past, his mother, Jerrie (President) gave me info stating no further repairs were needed or recommended, that it was burning oil and the solution offered was for me to simply check the oil EVERY DAY. At this point, I questioned outloud to Jerrie in person if they were trying to tell me they didn't want my business any longer. She assured me that was not the case. We then talked and, with Cody in the conversation, as well, a rebuilt engine was found with a cost of installation being 15k. I agreed, thinking a total engine replacement would fix the issues. Before I could pay, I needed to transfer funds for next business day. In the meantime, a new light came on -- the engine reduced power light. This was a new symptom and my research showed it might mean more than an engine alone. I could not, with this new info, afford to pay 15k and not have a total solution so canceled the order for the engine. Now, Murrysville Auto lets me know the seller of the engine was charging a restock fee of 1600. This restock fee was not divulged to me on my paperwork which is unlawful and non-binding in PA. To just be done with the transaction and move on, I agreed to pay 1600. But then, Cody tells me it is actually more than 1600. I stand by the 1600 relayed to me and pay that. Soooo, bottom line I stand by my intuition that Murrysville Auto wanted to sever business relations with me, though I had been a long-time loyal customer and always paid my repairs in full, on the spot, with no questions on pricing or suggested repairs until this car purchased in June, less than 3 months and less than 1500 miles ago. By having Jerrie and not Cody give me the latest non-repair advice of simply checking oil EVERY.SINGLE.DAY which is ludicrous to charging and not divulging a restock fee (first, I would never back out of a contract except I had new vital info), it seems obvious that I will not be continuing my service with them for this car or any other. I have no idea what changed to come to their final ways of doing business, but it is what it is. They are not the same trusted business that I came to trust and rely on all these years.

Let me say this first, US Route 22 is one hell of a road to navigate, especially during the night…read more My luck of travelling this road at night has not been good. I have hit many items along the road and this past night was no different. It wasn't a small item, but a semi-truck tire. Sitting right there in the middle of the road. Having nowhere to go seeing how this tire was smack dab in the middle of both lanes, I hit it. In doing so, I ripped the wheel well cover of the car away from the frame and it was rubbing against the tire. I stopped that night and did a quick fix and made a note to stop at an auto store to pick up some parts. I was in need of some fasteners and knowing that this was on my way to work one day, I decided to give them a try. I walked in and found my aisle I needed, I found a fastener closest to the one that was ripped off and headed to the counter. The employee I had wasn't so sure and I believe it was this gentlemen's first day. He got the manager and he helped me beyond what he should have. I asked a few questions, he answered them amazingly and even showed me a tool that would be helpful in my repair. I thanked him, bought my items and was on my way. I am not the most car literate person and it was reassuring to have someone with more knowledge be sure enough of what they knew to get me where I needed to be with my car.

I called the store and they said it wasn't their problem. Horrible service! Progressive warned me not to go there but unfortunately, I did. The manager (I believe his name is Rob) even told me they can't keep staff- everyone is either quitting or calling off. That definitely makes sense as to why they don't have their act together. I will NEVER go to Pep Boys again and I will make sure to spread the word.

Before I get to the service here, let me speak of the amenities of the waiting area. This is where they blow the competition away. Nice, comfortable arm chairs to sit in, flat screen hanging on the wall to watch, and one of those Keurig machines if coffee is your thing. Of course there is a vending machine for your soda/bottled water needs. Here is where they differ from the competitors. Say you don't want to purchase a bottle of water from the machine and you have your own canister with you. Guess what, they have one of those nifty filtering water fountains that just happens to have the fill station for your canister. Water not your thing, then how about you sit at their recharging bar. Bring your laptop, tablet, cell phone in with you and sit at their chrome topped area and plug it in. USB enabled as well as traditional outlets. Now, let me dive into the service. Before just showing up I was diligent and made my appointment beforehand via their website. I showed up before my appointment at this establishment and still had to wait past the time I was scheduled for service on my car. Before I go into my rant let me just say this place is right next to a similar establishment. I came here because I didn't want to spend a ton of money on something simple and I know doesn't cost much. Well that was a fluke, even with the coupon I printed out online it came to twice as much I am use to paying. To finish up and get to the point here. I could have gone to the next door establishment, paid the same price I was charged here and gotten out within fifteen minutes. It literally took over an hour to do a simple oil change and there was no one there for an oil change at the time, just me.
