Edo Japan has come such a long way! It's a Canadian chain that sells Japanese food. It was founded in 1979 and started off exclusively in mall food courts mainly just selling chicken and beef teriyaki on white rice. I used to hate it because it was mostly bean sprouts and onions (with some cabbage and carrots) with gristley meat on plain rice. So I avoided Edo for like 20 years, lol. However, recently one of my co-workers bought his lunch from there and it was a noodle bowl and looked delicious. I asked him where it was from and I was shocked when he said Edo Japan. They have totally expanded their menu, have stand alone locations now (of which this is one of them) and their food is pretty good for fast food, just a bit pricey imo.
I got the Hawaiian Chicken Bento Box ($13.75). It came with my choice of 2 sides. I got Gyoza and California Rolls. The Hawaiian Chicken is chicken, pineapple, cabbage, broccoli and carrots on a bed of white rice (the menu said mushrooms were included, my meal for some reason did not have mushrooms). I got 2 Gyoza. The filling was ground pork. I got 4 California rolls. I asked for no sesame seeds and they were able to accommodate. The California rolls were grocery store quality sushi, so not that good. The filling was cucumber, avocado and an imitation crab salad (mixed with mayo). No masago. It was pretty flavourless. Gyoza were good. Fried from frozen, but to be expected of fast food joints. The Hawaiian Chicken was fried up to order. It was pretty tasty. I asked for their teriyaki sauce on the side and they gave me so much of it. I'm glad I didn't get the sauce on the food. It would have been way too wet and saucy for me.
Service was very friendly and courteous.
I'm so glad that I gave Edo Japan another chance. For Japanese fast food, they are pretty good. Obviously not as good as Japanese non-fast food, but you have to take places for what they are.
This location is in College Square. It's next to Thai Express. Along the same side as Starbucks and BMO. Lots of free parking. read more
