A couple of NJ…read morefriends invited me along, and I'm so glad they did! 25 miles all over Newark, under the care of the Team Newark Cycling and Major Taylor Cycling Club of Newark. The event was well organized, well executed, and an all-around great time on a Saturday morning when I'd otherwise likely be sleeping in. First of all, the event is FREE. In addition to the two groups above, the event was sponsored by the Harbourton Foundation and the City of Newark. The Mayor of Newark even came out, welcomed the crowd and participated in the 5 mile kids ride. Upon arrival, registrants received free bike helmets and t-shirts. Volunteers were on-hand to provide bike tune-ups, put air in tires, adjust seats, grease wheels, etc. Once the ride began, the volunteers stayed with the group and there were police escorts marking the course the entire way. And who knew that Newark was so pretty? We rode through a bunch of neighborhoods and past a really pretty park. It was suburban and rather quiet the entire ride. There were also water stops, granola bars provided at the halfway mark, and a raffle for ten brand new bikes. Note that this wasn't a competitive "race"...it was a fun group ride involving several hundred people. The staff and other participants were all very friendly and everyone encouraged each other along the way. That said, 25 miles at even a moderate pace is still a great workout. Thankfully, participants differed widely in age and athleticism, and anyone in moderately good shape would enjoy themselves immensely. What a great way to promote healthy living, energy conservation, and foster a fun community spirit! I look forward to the next one.

Sent a letter to the company president on 10/31/11 and received no reply. So here you go…read more... 1. Hotels: All the hotels were rated "good" except for Shanghai which was "fair." We had to change rooms because carpets weren't vacuumed and counter tops were not clean in the bathroom or bar area. Changing rooms resulted in the same conditions. 2. Meals: All meals were rated "fair" except for the cruise which was "excellent." The food was rated in this manner because no input was allowed by us. One tour member was a vegetarian and every meal it was an issue providing food for her to eat. Every meal, except in Lhasa, was ordered by the guide. We were only allowed one drink in a small glass and no dessert unless we paid an additional cost. 3. Tours: All tours were rated "good" except for Chongquing and Shanghai which were "fair." These could have been rated "poor" due to the limited time in each area and the required stops for the shops attempting to sell tourists the upgraded costs of merchandise. Too many of these required shopping stops were also in each of the other cities. 4. Tour Guides: All guides were rated "good" except Yangtze River (excellent) and Xi'an/Shanghai (poor). The Tibetan guide was very patient with the group about the acclimatization process with the altitude. The two "poor" rated guides would not answer tourist questions, hurried us through each of the itinerary sites making us feel as though they were attempting to "check the block" and get rid of us. They would also not listen to questions being asked and would interrupt and talk over our group. These are additional comments concerning areas not directly addressed on the evaluation form: 5. Initial purchase of our trip: We dealt with Branka from the New York office. Between December 2010, when booking the trip, and July of 2011 when submitting passports, we were on the verge of cancelling the trip. When purchasing the trip, submitting email questions, or attempting to get visas completed, it was extremely difficult to get responses to our questions. The lack of timely responses or the actual responses received left us in doubt of the actual execution of the trip. My parents also went on this trip and were as equally frustrated by the poor customer service of our contact. The sole reason we did not cancel was the recommendation from a friend of my parents who had just returned from a PDT tour and had glowing comments about the experience. The other two women in our group had similar complaints. 6. Yangtze River Cruise: When we purchased our trip prior to the end of 2010, an upgrade was issued for the river cruise. Upon embarkation my parents received their upgrade but we did not. There was no confirmation that we had an upgrade even though we provided the trip itinerary indicating so as my parents did. Though it took two days for the ship to receive confirmation we were moved to the upgrade deck with the explanation that should confirmation not be received we would have to move back down to the original cabin. Having to check back with the front desk several times added undue concern when returning from shore excursions. 7. Air Travel: Our group was stranded at the Lhasa airport for over an hour waiting for the tour guide to arrive. We had to attempt to communicate with a non-English speaking Chinese man and get him to use his cell phone to call the contact number in Beijing provided by the company. Once the guide arrived he showed us the paperwork provided by the company showing our group arriving on a flight 2+ hours later than our actual arrival. Arriving in the Shanghai airport after the cruise, again the tour guide was not present. We had to contact the local airport tour desk in an effort to contact the company. After 20-30 minutes a guide who was standing outside baggage claim when we arrived with an Air China sign approached and asked us if we just flew in from a Yangtze River cruise. The guide turned out to be ours but had no arrival flight information for the Shanghai Air we took, the name of the PDT tour or any member's names. To happen once to a paying tour group was unexplainable but twice, absolutely, completely unacceptable. Along with the great sightseeing and a tour cost we considered very good for all the items provided, the trip would have been exceptional if the "poor" things had not happened. Even some of those could have been overlooked had Branka been much better in the purchase/information of the tour. Again, the overall tour experience we had with your company was well below the expected norm compared to other tour operators we have used. These issues may seem minor to you but, from travelers who elected to spend their hard earned dollars with your company, we were extremely disappointed and would not recommend your company to fellow travelers.

My husband and I took at 17 day Cultural tour of China in Oct- early Nov 2013…read more Pacific Delights calls it 17 days but that is not so. We never met the first day as it was "travel day" so we missed one day. No get together breakfast the next day but a meeting. Tour guide should have had everyone introduce themselves but he did not and no one knew one another except for the 8 of us traveling cousins. The other 8 felt a little left out at the beginning. We did see a lot of the various cities with local guides. Most were good. The last one in HK only gave us a 1/2 day tour then let us shop at STanley market so it was really a 15 1/2 day trip. We disliked being hauled into the shops to "buy" but I know they all do that. One day en route to the Great Wall they took us to a jade factory, then to the Wall AND back again to the same place for lunch upstairs. Most places for meals were huge restaurants with few locals. Mainly tourists. We were annoyed that because food preferences were noted by a few travelers, we had to miss spicy foods in one city and no fish served due to allergies by some. OUr disappointment was only 1 1/2 days in Shanghai. They added an optional evening tour for us IF we paid. It was not enough time in such a great city! In Yangshou there was an afternoon of free time so the guide offered a tour of the farming area FOR A FEE! That was ridiculous. The Victoria Anna ferry/cruise down the Yangtze was less than stellar. They did give us "junior suites" for some reason so the room was satisfactory. Food was buffet and tolerable but the choice meals on two nights were awful The biggest waste was my massage for $60 US. SO unsanitary! It was terrible!!! Buses good, water provided. Our tour was only 16 people which was great. We never saw the Olympic Stadium except from afar due to to all the traffic!!! ANother irritating thing was when we got o the city of Xi'an, we were given a tour again of a factory and the showroom so we'd buy THEN they took us to see the warriors! Guilin was interesting but guide should have showed us a picture of the steps we would encounter as some could not go up. They had to pay themselves for the men to carry them. Ridiculous considering the cost of our trip per person. Most hotels were nice. Beijing Ritz Carleton was the nicest. Others had vast lobbies but mediocre to our standards. Most of the breakfasts were lavish and great! Yanshou was not very good but that was the best hotel in the city we were told. The water show was fabulous and that was highlight of that visit. The end of the trip was in Hong KOng and we were there mainly on our own. There should have been some farewell dinner or something as other tour companies do. How do their guides arrange that? Ours said he was unable to leave the mainland and come with us. All in all, it was an interesting trip. For what we paid, perhaps it should have included the full number of days.

Although it's labeled as century ride, you can choose from as short as 15 miles, 60 miles, and 100 miles; 3. Plenty of rest stops with water/energy drink refills and foods; 4. Really flat. Cons: 1. Expect traffic lights and bad road condition (not close road race; you have to walk on the bridges); 2. Easy to get lost as the marks are hard to notice if you are not paying close attention. (Light yellow marks at the intersections); 3. The trip takes too LONG and too much time. A lot of traffic lights (so expect a lot of clip-on and unclip). Overall, it was fun!! Rode to many great places that I never been to before. A great way to tour the city but be careful as the road condition is not consistent.

This was on on a Cannondale Hybrid Quick CX4 bought with cash over Craigslist! ...after 2 years of riding I was ready for a full carbon bike, spent shit loads of money and got one in 2016. The Cannondale Synapse is name Green machine, yep cause its green in color!!!!! So, in Sept 2016, i rode the 2nd time! The 27th NYC Century on the Green Machine, it was an epic feeling with a carbon frame vs an Aluminum one. But- I was still searching for those 2 chicks (sigh) ....so times passed by and as those 2 chicks became a distant memory- Transport Alternative (the cycling advocacy group in NYC) announced that 2019 ride (the 30th) would be the last. So 9/8/19, i did my last The 30th and Final NYC Century in the last attempt to FINALLY find those girls, but I just rode the ride with the memory of the ride downthe memory lane.... Good work Transport Alternatives for arranging 30 consequetive rides since 1990. Too bad its no more for you to experience!

Short version: The NJ Transit Long Branch Train Station is adequate in function and pretty…read moreconvenient. Frequent transfer point, it sees a good amount of traffic. Most transfers going south are quick and smooth, not exactly the same going north. Waiting outside during winter can be a bit brisk as there is no completely enclosed area. It does the job. The Deets: Over the last few years, I've used this station in Long Branch as a NJ Transit train connection point going south to Asbury Park/Bay Head, as well as going back north to NYC or Newark airport. It sees a pretty good amount of action as the transfer point due to this fact. Transfers usually go smoothly going south when transferring at Long Branch, as many times the train continuing south is on the other track directly across from the train that just brought you into the station. However, connecting there going back up north towards NYC usually means waiting for one of trains to come up from the maintenance/storage yard adjacent to it...and many times it is not immediate, usually resulting in a wait. If it is in the winter, it's not fun to wait as there is no completely enclosed waiting area that I've seen. The waiting area I've experienced is covered but outside including one bench area having glass around it, not completely enclosed from the elements. There is a staffed ticket office and also ticket kiosks available, but I have used the NJ Transit phone app for tickets most of the time which is very convenient. It has a pretty sizable parking lot and I imagine the spots are for a cost for commuters going into the city. All in all, the Long Branch train facility is adequate and does the job needed.

Now that I'm actually at the station after my "rural" trip west I can understand way. The Hoboken train has been scheduled to leave in zero minutes for quite some time. There might be a reasonable explanation for why only one of three tracks is in use, but I can't see why that would render electronic signs incorrect. Maybe there's another AWS outage?

The train station itself is pretty small and parking is a complete pain during commuter hours, and it's the main reason for my low rating... I ended up parking here Friday night because it was located near the restaurant where I was meeting friends, and I couldn't find any parking elsewhere. It was past commuter hours so there was plenty of parking. Unfortunately I did not have any quarters to feed the meter (24 hour paid parking cruel!) but I noticed there was a QR code on the meter. Well, if you don't have quarters, good luck. The QR code was for a parking app, and I've used parking apps in the past... this is the worst one. It kept running very slow and needed a lot of input right away. Not only was I late to meet friends because of this, but this parking lot is very dark at night. I don't care if I'm in the lowest crime rated city in America, being in a relatively deserted parking lot when it's dark out, by yourself, trying to get something on my phone to work- definitely made me feel vulnerable and unsafe. They should really get the parking machines that towns like Westfield have, where you input the parking space number and pay, it generates a ticket and you're good to go. The app was not convenient at all, and if it's not convenient for the customer, then it's for sure a money grab. I believe the app is designed to eliminate people being able to use the extra time the meter has on it from the previous person. 2/5
