Dr. Tafoya saved my Gigi's life and I'm extremely grateful for her. Gigi started having seizures and throwing up one morning. I called this vet and they were able to take her in right away. When Gigi and I got back home, Gigi started having back to back seizures; I was so scared that I would lose her. I called this vet back right away and they told me to bring her back immediately. I believe we went to this vet three days in a row and they took such good care of her. They gave her an IV and at the end, the seizures stopped. Gigi is now on two medications to help with her seizures. My other fur-child, Lola, was coughing recently and I brought her here-- This was also a last minute appointment. Dr. Griffith took good care of her and prescribed her medication and now she's all fine. The doctors and the staff here are so great! I live in Sacramento, so it takes me an hour to get here, but I don't mind, because I know my fur-children are in the BEST care. HIGHLY recommend this vet! read more

My cat was bitten by a rattlesnake a few weeks ago, and Gold Country was phenomenal at treating him. Even though they were full, they let me bring him in immediately for an urgent care appointment. They were so fast and efficient, they did blood work, infused him with the antivenin, hooked him up with pain meds and antibiotics. I was able to take him home that same night! They were very good about updating me along the way, and giving me choices in treatment options. I cannot recommend them enough, and will continue to bring my 2 cats to them. Overall fantastic experience. As I arrived to drop my dog, Mishka, her and I were greeted by a friendly receptionist. Shortly after a vet tech. They put Mishka at ease and took her back for an examination. Within an hour or so I received a call from Dr Griffith explaining what he had found, along with his suggested solutions. Dr Griffith is extremely compassionate and has great communication skills. Pricing is reasonable, employees are friendly and caring, and my girl was taken good care of. We got a recommendation for them from a foster home we got our puppy from. They drive over an hour to go here. We live in Folsom so it's about 45 mins for us. We couldn't care less that there is about a 100 vets closer to us. The staff here has been so attentive, to all four of our dogs. Our latest incident was a broken leg, two of our puppies were playing in the rain. They were able to get us in do X-rays and actually able to do the surgery the same day. I don't know where to start. This vet is amazing! We rescued our sweet bosa not realizing he had parvo. My sister recommend them to me after having multiple great experiences with them as well. They were able to quickly get out very very sick little man in to be seen. After that he spent 5 days in the staffs great care! Through those days it was hit and miss, however the staff didn't miss a beat. They were also mindful of the fact treatment is expensive and did their absolute best to work with us. I am happy to say that not only did he make it, he's thriving! Not only will I recommend them to everyone (which I have already, and I have several friends who now take their pets there.) my family is more than great full for everyone's hard work! I was told to learn how to give her Subcutaneous fluids, do it every other day for the rest of her life, and. She would have maybe 5 more good years. No need to come back for a follow up . So That's what I was doing My cat was doing great until I ran out of the fluid on Thursday so 4 days without treatment the Dr on duty today will not renew prescription without a office visit and expensive retesting.. So because I can't afford another $500 vet visit my cat is suffering . I dont get it. I am furious and sad. read more

2 stars is simply for the fact Edgewood staff are seriously very friendly. They seem to be hard working, family oriented individuals who wouldn't be pulling shady tactics on pet parents too distracted with saving their fur-babies lives to take pause & ask $$$ saving questions, but that could end up costing us the lives of our beloved animals. I've taken my rescued, Semi-crippled, 12 yr old Corgi-mix (Coco) here a handful of times, each time the bill gets bigger. Granted, 5 months after rescuing Coco, he was 10 yrs old & had slipped a disc, losing all function of his hind legs. Edgewood was 1st location w/appt. Short story: age vs. surgery, quality of life, & costs = Edgewood suggests costly surgery, but to keep returning to "monitor" inflammation, and assess his condition over the next few weeks. OK, I'm no vet, so the Vet knows best. No real progress, just more pain killers, which helped Coco basically sleep & not yelp everytime he enhaled. Fast forward 2.5 wks, Coco stopped eating, Edgewood suggested we say our good byes & decide to end his suffering. I decided to ween him off his pills, spent 3-5 hrs for 3 days just massaging him, then used a tens unit (he couldn't stand this new, scary device), but after only a 2 min, then another 3 min session a few hrs later, Coco was actually up & using his front legs to drag himself to potty. I didn't bother w/the vet & just continued to nurse Coco back to being fully independent, minus the full strength in his back legs due to him still having a sorta curved spine, which must be pinching the tendons, etc responsible for his legs functioning %100. Fast forward 9 months, Coco started to vomit & seems to be having issues keeping anything down on a Saturday 9:30pm-ish. Bland food 1 day, then fast 12hrs (my decision), til we can be seen at Edgewood earliest possible was Tues 11am. Coco's spunky still, but starting to seem in pain, no longer able to deficate besides a little pee. Edgewood examines, understandably decided x-rays a must. The Vet Tech (assistant) returns to review them w/me, explaining the cloudy, possibly white marble sized balls is trapped gas & either backed up food or just his organs from an odd angle. She explains the Certified X-Ray Tech had to step out briefly, but would be returning shortly(it's now around 12:30ish). She says I should take coco home and she'll call me with an update soon as the Xray Tech is able to review. I load Coco into the car, got to the 2nd stop light bout 1/2 a block away when I get the call. Apparently the Cert. X-ray tech couldn't fully make out the "cloudy" blockage, so needed me to return first thing the next morning (x-ray tech was already booked solid rest of the day). The following morning, I arrive as instructed, they took Coco into back for new x-rays, return and explain the X-ray Vet Tech would be in shortly. Approximately 14 mins later, I'm asked to wait in the waiting room w/Coco, to allow the next patient appointment to be seen. OK. Another 8 mins, I'm updated by a new Vet tech that the X-ray tech has arrived, so I shouldn't be waiting much longer (wait, what? Then who the heck took the x-rays? How can a vet tech be good enough to take x-rays, but require special CERTIFICATION to interpret them?). He arrives, reviews the xrays in front of me (we're back in private room), feels Coco's abdomin & tells me it's just gas build up that's causing acid reflux. He prescribes 1/2 pill of OTC acid reflux (yes, human meds) every meal for a week, & Gas-X 1x/day. I thanked him, and left. Fast forward 6 wks: I get a bill in mail with my father-in-laws name as primary (my husband is Jr), & my name on a collection letter. Apparently the office must've not bothered looking up my actual info, where I have my SACRAMENTO po box listed as my mailing address; they probably looked up my home address, saw father-in-law as owner, and mailed the previous bills (I'm assuming they sent other bills BEFORE sending me straight to collections), and figured that was good enough. I found the front office staff to be kind, efficient and thorough. They were able to fit me in within a week, whereas VCA was booking 6-8 weeks now. This was my first visit here so I can't speak to how it was before, but I'm thrilled to be receiving care from Dr. Griffiths again. I just got back from a vet appointment from this place and I must say. It sucked. They were great with my cat. Petting her, praising her while they examined her and gave her the shots. What really got me going was the fact that the charged me 25 extra dollars for looking at her ear! They did not tell me they would charge me extra for looking at her ear which should have been part of the psychical. I had already told them ahead of time that I could only afford the original 77 dollar vet bill. When I asked about the now 102 dollar bill they told me it was for looking at her ear. I then said I didn't have the money for that. The lady (her name is Roxy) then points to my mother and says maybe she could pay for me! How rude! I'm personally never going back. read more

They gave my dog an unnecessary vaccination that he had already had. They tried to tell me the vaccination he got prior "wasn't valid anymore". We went to a different vet and they said it was totally unnecessary for this vet to recommend getting the vaccine a second time. They have no exam room, we stood in a lab with blood samples and an X-ray machine with techs walking in and out trying to find things. The floor was extremely dirty, my dog was laying in another dogs slobber that was all over the place, but he had no where else to sit because the room was the size of a small bathroom. read more

Great, caring vet office. My dog stopped eating so I knew something was wrong and wanted to take her to see a vet. I had already established care at another vet in town, but had personal experience with Edgewood when I took my mil's cat in for boarding and I wanted to try them out. I had no idea that I was going to lose my dog in the next couple of days, but Edgewood made this process so much easier. I called on Wednesday when my dog refused to eat the cat's food and her dog treats. I wanted to be seen that day because it was my day off and hard to arrange for someone to cover my shift at work the next day. Unfortunately they couldn't fit me in until Saturday! I was devastated as it had already been 2 days since my dog had eaten. Later in the day, Edgewood called to let me know there might be a possible opening Thursday. I said I'd make it work and took the appointment. Check in was easy as they have their registration form online so it's ready to go for the office staff. I got in to see the doctor right away and didn't have to wait ages in the room. The doctor ordered a blood test right away after listening to my dog's issues. The blood test showed some things that were not normal so an x-ray was done. The doctor didn't like what she saw and was very straight forward that things weren't looking good, so I oked an ultrasound to be scheduled for the next day. Here's where some great big hearts come in... I didn't hear back from the vet on Thursday about the US appointment, so I called Friday morning. The US was scheduled for the following Wednesday. What?! No doc, that won't work. My dog has labored breathing, her belly is filled with something (which was later confirmed as blood), she's not eating and can't go to the bathroom. The doctor agreed this shouldn't wait, so she offered to call around and see if she could find someone to do the US that day. She was successful, the US was done and confirmed the worst, so I was able to make an appointment for the next day to have my dog put down. That was really one of the hardest things I've ever had to do, but the Edgewood staff was very caring and professional. Upon arrival I was immediately put in a room that was already set up with a blanket on the floor and the exam table moved out of the way. Very gently and kindly I was given the options and paid without having to leave the room. The doctor came in and explained the procedure and things began. When all was done, I was allowed to stay as long as I needed and I never felt rushed. The staff that had met my dog only once before treated both her and I like we had been long time clients. I will forever be grateful for the experience I had at Edgewood. They made the impossibly hard manageable with their caring, compassion and professionalism! Please give them a try. You won't regret it! PS--This is the cleanest vet I have ever been in. Usually there is fur flying everywhere and I come home covered in it and feeling dirty. This happens so often that I've taken to wearing my junk clothes to the vets. Not at Edgewood. I couldn't even find stray fur or a dust bunny in the corners behind the door and chair! I can't say enough good things about this vet! This was our first time being seen at this vet, they were actually one of the very few accepting new patients. The booking/drop off process was so quick and easy. They provided very thorough and honest communication. I have been told by almost everyone that I need to bring my dog to the dermatologist for his allergies but Edgewood assured me that they could get good control of my pups issues. They provided a ton of products, while explaining each one's purpose in great detail. We have already been seeing a huge change in our dog's appearance as well as energy/personality. They only want your money. So I called in because my dog needed to have a tooth pulled. It was very obvious. I ask point blank, can she pull the tooth rite then and there. I was told she needed to see it but yes if that is really what was needed. I get there, the vet agrees that yes the tooth definatly needs to be pulled but unfortunately they don't do that there but she can give me the name of a vet that can. I was then given a bill for $77. REALLY??? THEY COULDN'T HAVE GIVEN ME THAT NUMBER ON THE PHONE?! Definitely a waste of my time not to mention MY MONEY! I guess they needed to get their cut. read more

I have been to this vet 3 or 4 times with my 85 year old mother in law's pets. Her dog probably has liver cancer. There is not much that can be done for the dog. However I was soooooo impressed with Dr. Zerbel. She was incredibly calm and patient with my mil and listened to all of her concerns. The appointment was a full half hour and we did not feel rushed at all. The appointment ended when WE got up to leave. Granted, maybe it was a slow day... but I was very impressed. We have also seen Dr. Kristy McCamy. She is also very caring. She ran the blood tests that showed elevated liver numbers. Dr. McCamy is probably more test oriented and probably would want us to run more tests. Given the age and probable diagnoses of the dog, we declined more (expensive) blood tests or biopsies, etc. Dr. McCamy was fine with that and did not push. Dr. Zerbel is probably less likely to repeat tests (on geriatric, dying pets). We tend to like this approach better. But they are two different vets, with slightly different approaches and it is all good. But I could not be more pleased with how both doctors and the office staff treat my mil and her pets. And as another review pointed out, they do not bill you and expect to pay at the end of the appointment. However, I won't ding them any stars for this. read more

This vet has gone downhill since Dr.Trainor retired.Thanks to Zerbal not doing a simple needle aspiration test are family had false hopes that are dog didnt have cancer and only an infection.Wrong!!! Then to add insult to injury neither vet would stay 5 or 10 minutes later than 5 to put our dog asleep leaving it to suffer all night with him in our arms.This was the last straw. Incredibly thankful for their ability to get us seen today. Right now is a very difficult time to be a pet parent. It's nearly impossible to be seen anywhere without 3 weeks notice. My dog had puppies over the weekend, and I needed their tails and declaws completed between 3-5 days. Our routine vet has not been able to get us in for anything. They are often closed during the week and weekends due to low staffing, and have recently taken several days to call back, and are often rude or short on the phone when we call. I understand the endemic we're now in, I work in healthcare also, but customer service is still important, regardless of how busy everyone is. Edgewood vet was very helpful, kind, and able to see us same day. I appreciate their ability to explain what was happening to the puppies, and what to expect as as far as possible complications. Also felt it was affordable. I liked the small town feel I received. Would love to be a full time patient if they have room. read more

I had a horrible experience here. My cat who I'd had for a long while seemed lethargic. I made an appt which was quick. When I arrived with my beloved kitty they took him back and then shortly after came to get me. The worst they said, he had cancer. I had honestly thought we would get antibiotics and go home. They suggested that he was suffering so I had to honor him by making the decision. I was not prepared at all and was a double mess. They hurried me through the process but the reason I would NEVER return is while I was hysterical at the counter I said I just wanted to leave could they please bill me. The gal said they could not, if that's policy I understand. Then rudely and without care she raised her voice and said "that will be $85 for the euthanasia." It sickens me just to write this. I have been taking my animals here for a few years now. One of the vets (McCamy) had usually attempted to keep the bill down to an affordable level, we always asked for her, because the bill was always crazy-high when we saw the other vet (Zerbel), she is very nice, just trying to pay off her student loans, I imagine. Our dog had an emergency (an infected uterus) and, you guessed it, Zerbel was on. The dog wound up needing surgery, the same exact surgery another of our dog required a year ago. The bill, at another vet, for our other dog was $1100, the bill at Edgewood was $2403.12. The treatments were almost identical, with X-rays and fluids. Yes, this dog is 20 pounds heavier than our other dog and it was a year ago, but come on, twice as much? I called Dr McCamy the next day, I prefaced all I had to say with the fact that we pass by 20 vets on the way to her office, and have always been satisfied with the care she gave our pet, she gave me a very insulting song and dance, which disappointed me, about how they hire only certified vet techs, etc, etc. The end of our conversation, and also the end of me taking any of my 6 animals to this clinic was that she said, "well if you had fixed her long ago, she wouldn't have needed this surgery". First highway robbery, then insults. Shame on you Edgewood. There are many other vets in town that will be more considerate of finances and feelings, I'll be going there. read more

Very nice people. Front desk and doctors. Took are dog for a look at a small growth. A blood panel was ordered. It was decided she needed surgery for possible cancer. The estimated procedure was clearly written out and would be $1124.00. I choose to get a second opinion from Mother Lode Veterinarian Hospital in Grass Valley. The doctor did a needle biopsy and within minutes told me she had a benign skin tag and he would remove it for $250. You be the judge. read more

I brought my dog here to have a quick procedure done which runs around 20.00. I have been to other vets and it's the type of procedure that is always done on the spot quickly, which my dog needs once every five months. I was told by Edgewood Vet that I had to pay an extra 50.00 for a physical on top of the 20.00 for the procedure OR my dog could NOT been seen. What a rip off! I have never had this happen before for such a minimal procedure. I ended up bringing my dog to South Auburn Vet, a quick trip down the road and I am so glad I did. They did the procedure quickly and for the 20.00 I had originally expected. If I had stayed at Edgewood Vet my bill would have been 70.00 today. I'm not made of money and it seems Edgewood Vet only cares about how much they can get out of their customers. Needless to say...Edgewood Vet lost a customer today and South Auburn Vet gained one. read more

I have to say that I'm nothing but in love with this place. I got a puppy who was 3 weeks old at the time. When I got him he had worms, fleas, two punctures on his head and a whole in his eye. I brought him in the next day and with tears in my eyes she told me how bad it was. The chance of him loosing his eye was 90/10 percent but no matter how hopeless the situation was she constantly kept me positive. Not only did I not know if he would make it, I couldn't finically prepare for a eye surgery for him if the ointment didn't work. Dr. Zerbal sat and crossed off $700.00 worth of things that were not needed at the time. Most vets will try to get every penny they can out of you and she did everything she can to help me out finally. $300.00 later and hours of mothering and my baby boy is happy and healthy. Everytime I go into Edgewood Veterinary I thank god for them because they saved my best friends life. Knowing your dog loves his vet is a very rare feeling!
