Short Version: We loved it! Long Version: I have watched the Charlevoix webcam from across the bridge, and always thought that it would be great to stay at Edgewater. Their website allowed us to check each available unit. We chose the unit and reserved two days. Medical issue arose, and we needed to delay the trip by a couple of weeks. Since the unit would be available, they seamlessly moved the reservation. We then added a 3rd night. The unit was clean, with a wonderful view from the balcony. Their instructions for getting new towels were clear and easy to follow. There are laundry facilities on site. We plan to return, so that says it all. Management company team were all professional and friendly. Very few people post positive reviews on Yelp, but my suggestion is to focus on the reviews from THIS decade. read more

First negative review on Yelp. I gave them weeks to respond to my calls, today I called again, was told by their friendly GM (Brandon, not sarcasm) that the owner was not interested in further discussing this "situation" aka our family holiday experience. Family holiday, with our 2 kids, stayed three nights 9/14-9/16/20. $239/night. First day, raised complaint that the kitchen came with cooking pots and pans that were caked in old eggs. We ate out instead. Second night, we discover our door to the room had a malfunctioning locking mechanism, thus the room door literally could not be locked. Meaning, night 1 we slept with an unlocked hotel door. Night two, once discovered, I barricaded at night for peace of mind. Sure, it's Northern Michigan - but still. They fixed it our last day - to their position, they were (I presume) unaware they provide us a room without a properly locking door. Hotel doors that lock..a cleaned kitchen - basics. Yes? Minimal expectations for a Inn at any price. I am a business owner myself and felt/feel that this type of experience must be handled professionally - even if unintentional. I would refund the stay if I gave a damn about consumer experience. At least 50% back the nights they slept without a locking door in the room? Buy them a meal for the gross pans in their kitchen? They reluctantly offered us $100 (I paid $800) and 10% off our NEXT stay after I asked if they were doing anything for us. Next stay? ‍ Customer service is dead! And that's coming from a millennial likely speaking of an elder. I requested the owner reconsider our experience, gave him 30 days, to see if he was willing to take better care of us. Bonus features: they told me we had a room with a great balcony when I reserved it, was literally bars over a window - so wife and I had no balcony when kids were asleep as we had hoped for..asked for, the WiFi was shotty, there were several power outages, gym closed despite gyms open lumpy bed, construction next door, sauna down, and the staff wasn't masked up despite signage requiring guests to be. Edgewater Inn - Not going back to the Edgewater Inn - Hotels Near Me - Charlevoix, Michigan

Great stay over the holidays. Stayed in unit 105 & 106. Even in the winter this location has amazing views. Best location in Charlevoix! Can walk to all of the restaurants and shops from the Inn. In the warmer months we walk to the lighthouse and beach. The condo units are well appointed and very comfortable. Was a fun time had by all! read more

This was, by far, the most amazing place I've ever stayed at. All subsequent hotel stays will be compared to this. I really cannot sing enough praises about the Edgewater- except the prices. We got a crazy good deal for the weekend though, so that doesn't affect this rating. Be warned though that the pricing can get up there. I totally understand why though. Plus it's right downtown and you can walk wherever you need to go! Our condo- CONDO, not hotel room- was amazing. Granite countertops, full kitchen, a fireplace, doorwall leading out a patio on the river... this place is way nicer than my actual house. If I'm ever going to Charlevoix again, I will pray that there is a deal going on at the Edgewater. read more

My Wife and I have been staying at the Edgewater for well over 15 years, and we have friends that now stay there as oppose to across the street, based on our earlier recommendations . We have spent thousand of dollars staying there over the years. This year our reservation for next week was mishandled not once but twice with the result being that after making the reservation months ago we had no place to stay for next week. At first we were VERY DISAPPOINTED, then because we were forced to look at alternative places, we discovered we could rent one of several very nice cottages with more room and multiple bedrooms and a full size kitchen for less money. We have booked a nice cottage with more privacy and it is also pet friendly so for the first time we are bringing our pets with us instead of boarding them at the Vets. So I would like to say Thank You to the Edgewater, because our reservation was mishandled and wrongly cancelled we may have found a nicer and cheaper place to spend our vacation dollars for many years to come. One of the nicer places I've ever stayed. We were in condo room #102. It was very nicely appointed and in a prime first floor walkout to the round lake frontage. The pool was in new condition and immaculate. The room was clean and private, and though the cost was about twice the average hotel, it was a last minute, weekend reservation and we felt fortunate to secure a room at a peak season time. Trying to eat in downtown Charlevoix- now that's another challenge! I recommend Edgewater condos- expect to pay but it's a very nice experience. read more

I understand that Edgewater is hit-or-miss depending on what condo you get; each condo is privately owned and decorated. We happened to get a great condo: room 116. Edgewater took care of us pretty well. We were supposed to stay at the nearby Lodge. The Lodge instructed us to go to Edgewater's lobby to retrieve our key, as we would arrive after the Lodge closed. Despite being assured by the attendant at the Lodge that she'd leave our key at Edgewater, we arrived - tired from a nearly five hour car trip - to find they did not deliver the key at Edgewater's lobby, thus leaving us without access to the room we paid for. The Edgewater attendant said she'd let us rent a condo for the weekend at $100 off the regular nightly rate for our trouble. This was a fortunate accident, as our condo was gorgeous - clean, well decorated and with a fully functioning and renovated kitchen. The countertops were faux-marble. The shower was large and luxurious. The bed was spacious and comfy. The view from the patio was incomparable; the sliding doors open and look out over the canal and automated bridge. My only point of contention is the cleaning staff. They left previous tenant's empty bottles laying around. This wouldn't be so bad if I hadn't inadvertently took a swig from a Diet Coke bottle that was hidden under the bed (I thought it was one of my Diet Cokes; I had one by the bed the previous night) only to discover it was an old Diet Coke spiked with rum. So, because the staff didn't do a thorough cleaning job, I drank someone else's old booze-infused Coke. That was unsavory to say the least. read more

Each unit is individually owned so no two are alike. As per the advice of reviews and staff, we asked for an "updated" unit. It was fantastic. My first impression was "Super clean!" and nicely staged. Housekeeping did an outstanding job and deserves high praise! Staying here is more like a home than a hotel! Separate bedroom, bath, and big kitchenette/island divider to the living room and then deck. The kitchenette was a two burner stovetop, fridge, microwave, coffee pot and full set of utinsels, plates, pots, etc. Save $$ buying at the grocery four blocks down or the farmers market in the summer and cook in! Tons of great fresh produce in season in this area. We were in 116 on the "bridge side." The bridge is constant traffic noise as tires go over the metal surface. Semi trucks rattle the building. It makes sitting outside not so pleasant. The bell warning and bridge noise as it opened and closed really wasn't as bad as some of the big trucks. It quiets a bit at night. Inside, you hardly hear it with the doors closed - a low hum. But if you are sensitive to noise, try the "harbor side" as others recommend. We spent so little time actually at the unit, the noise was no big deal. For the price, I'd go back again off season ($89-$109), and compared to other seasonal pricing, these are spacious, homestyle condos vs tiny hotel rooms. If you want to be downtown with a view, stumbling distance to the brewery, tap room, and other drinking and dining venues, this is the Charlevoix sweet spot. read more

Location, location, location. If this place were along a nondescript highway, it would have a fine rating The rooms are for the most part, other peoples' condos that are rented out, and so it's very hard to know what the details are from one room to another. Ours was more than fine. Amenity wise, they have a little indoor/outdoor pool, and a restaurant which we did not try out. But really this doesn't matter, because the location is wonderful! All the rooms have patios or balconies that look out to the canal between cute Round Lake, and Lake Michigan. You look south to the main part of old town Charlevoix, and to the victorian mansions along the southern hill. The lake and the canal are full of boating activity; the canal is separated by a mechanical bridge which raises every 30 minutes so so, and there are always sailboats, fishing boats and occasionally Beaver Island ferry boats coming in and out all day. Even the airport is to the south, so you can see small planes fly in. The activity stops at night, so you can rest easy. You are a short walk to all of downtown Charlevoix, so you can walk to restaurants, shops, etc. We went to have a short getaway from another wonderful part of northern Michigan, and it was a real treat. Unless you're looking for head-to-toe pampering and snap-your-fingers service, I can't see how you can ask for more anywhere near downtown. It's totally entertaining to watch small resort town summertime activity, and calm and casual for easy access to dinner, breakfast, and better than expected shopping. read more

Stayed 5 days and few regrets. Great views up around Lake but spoiled. Room was in great need of a thorough clean. Marks on the wall. Stained carpet. The pool is COLD and had cigar and cigarette buts in the bottom. Being adjacent to the drawbridge is convenient for town but means constant traffic noise and hearing it open (and the Emerald Isle ferry leave noisily early each morning. We will be back to Charlevoix but not to this hotel. read more

We came to Charlevoix from Detroit for a wedding. The condo was beautiful and tastefully decorated. We were there for 2 nights and when the maid "cleaned" the room the next morning, she never bothered to make the bed or pick up the towels from the bathroom floor. The only thing we noticed that she did do, was leave a fresh set of towels on the bathroom counter as the dirty ones were on the floor. I even left them in a pile so they'd be easy to spot. For $250 a night, I certainly expect better. I've stayed in hotels for $75/night that made the bed and picked up the bathroom. The view of the canal was nice but unfortunately it was a bit too chilly to spend time on the balcony. read more

Will never stay here again. I saw mold in the hallway. My coffee pot looked like it had not been cleaned in a really long time. Something fuzzy going on in it. I saw the reception person, I think Christina?, taking a lot of pills in the office (you can see into the office from the front desk). I asked if she was taking vitamins or if she was ill. She said "oh, yea, these are my 'vitamins'" really sarcastically. I believe she is on drugs. When I came back to the desk shortly afterwords she acted very differently like she could not concentrate. She was rude as well. However, your other staff-I did not catch her name- during another shift was simply lovely. She listened to my complaints and helped any way she could. I will for sure not be coming back. Cleanliness is very sub par. Furniture and decor very out of date. Smell of mold throughout the place. Staff possibly on drugs. No thank you.More read more

I was in Michigan in June of 2010 for the Charlevoix Marathon staying at The Edgewater Inn, a condo style hotel run by Resort Reservations. I was asked to check in late the Friday night before my marathon (Saturday the 26th) due to maintenance working on the unit above mine. When I finally got into my one-bedroom unit on the first floor I discovered the bedroom carpeting was saturated. I was told there were no other rooms available at the hotel or in the entire area. They put down towels and left me in there. I coughed all through the night and breathed through a washcloth due to the horrible odor in the room. I had icy hot on my wrists and washcloth to try and counteract the smell. If I wasn't a woman on my own in a strange state I would have slept in my car. Sleeping out on the patio was not an option since I was on the ground floor and my personal safety was an issue. On Saturday morning I woke up early before the marathon to get fresh air. I was coughing so badly that I heard a pop on the right side rib area of my right breast. After the marathon when I went back to the room the odor was even worse. More towels had been put down while I was out and a big fan was installed. Many phone calls and visits to the front desk to discuss the horrific conditions I was being subjected to and all the front desk did was tell me there was nothing available. NEVER ONCE DID ANYONE FROM THE FRONT DESK COME TO MY ROOM!!!! Maintenance came in and made up the sofa bed for me to sleep on but the odor had now spread throughout the entire unit. The maintenance staff knew how bad it was and even commented about why I was still in there. I tried to stay away from the room as much as possible and checked out very early Sunday morning, staying at the airport until my flight. I had a conversation with the manager on that Tuesday and he agreed that the room was horrible, he comped my whole weekend and CLOSED DOWN THE UNIT FOR DECONTAMINATION. He told me that the unit above mine had a Jacuzzi whose pipe burst and proceeded to leak all down into my unit. They pulled up the carpet, removed the pad, dried up the carpet and put in new padding. I wound up breaking a rib from the coughing, suffered nerve damage to my ribs (for which I had to get two nerve blocks injected into my ribs) and have lymphatic tissue congestion. I sent a letter to Edgewater in February 2011. Their insurance company, Harleysville Insurance claimed to receive it in April 2011. When I spoke with them in May 2o11 I was told they put the owners of both units on notice. I am being denied by Auto Owners (unit above mine) because they claim they didn't know about the situation within a year. I have NEVER heard from the owners of the unit I stayed in and Harleysville only offered me $5000 saying they are denying me because they don't cover mold - THERE WAS NO MOLD AND I STATED THAT. I had discussed my health with the manager and told him back when this happened that I was still having problems in my rib area but I was hoping they would go away over time and if not I would let him know so that I could be reimbursed for medical...which is exactly what I did. I also have a doctor who stated my problems were a result of my extreme coughing. I have spoken with so many lawyers as well as Candace Sherwood from the Dept of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs. Bottom line, though I spent close to $10,000 in out of pocket doctor bills, gas, money and hospital bills AND spent 2+ years in extreme pain (the break to my rib was on my bra line) AND no longer can run my marathons (I am a 50 state marathoner which means I have run 26.2 miles in every state)...Michigan law states "if it was open and obvious" I don't have a case. This was the worst experience I have EVER had in a hotel. No one cared. read more
