Great location. We visited this library recently because we were in the Neighbourhood. My kiddo loved it as they have a lot of activities in the play area and the play area is nicely organized. Their book collection is also very good so I checked out some business books and kiddo checked out some board books. So it was definitely a win-win. The bathrooms are really nice and clean. The staff is friendly. They helped me with my questions so definitely five stars for that. Overall, a great location for kids play area and to get some books. read more

Great library! Plenty of parking out front. Great location on the corner of Monterey Road and Branham Lane. The librarians are very courteous and ready to help when called upon. Plenty of bathrooms. Lots of book selections and places to sit down and study. A lot of computers for people to use and print from. This place offers story time for children during the week as well as coding on Monday's at 4pm to 5pm. They also offer other help with computer-related tasks throughout the week. There are a bunch of homeless people in the parking lot, but they're good-hearted people and funny characters. They also have a toy area in the children's section with plenty of clean toys for your child to play with at any given time. They're going to start doing a "Summer Learning Kickoff" starting June 9th that you may want to check out. Enjoy! read more

The Edenvale Branch Library is a quiet, calming place to read books or borrow material such as BluRay Discs, CDs, and more. This library has a convenient location on Monterey Rd and Branham Lane in south San Jose. As a 20+ year District 2 San Jose resident, I think it's a shining star in our neighborhood. I love coming here to read, study, or get work done. The atmosphere is very calming here and is less loud than other San Jose public libraries, in my opinion. The quiet study area is a great place to get productive work done. There are also BikeLink lockers outside if you want to ride your two wheeler here, like I do. I have to take off one star because there are highly visible homeless encampments across the street from Edenvale Branch Library near the train tracks. While it is a sad reality that highlights the expensive cost of living in San Jose, it isn't nice to see when you are coming to your local library. read more

I visited this library on Saturday and it was not very crowded. They have a lot of parking space and some are covered too. As this is my first visit to this library, I took a new library card. They have around 6 different library card designs to choose from. They have kids play area with some toys and legos. They have a lot of hard books for kids and 2 computers in the kid's zone. They also have good DVD collections and some music albums. Once books were collected, you need to check out at the entrance. They have 3 systems for check out and we have to return the books on or before 3 weeks from the day of check out. read more

The neighborhood association in San Jose District 1 in my area reminded me about the U.S. Citizenship classes provided by the San Jose public library. So in May of 2022, finally I signed-up, and very quickly got accustomed to the process for naturalizing in the United States. There are a number of eligibility requirements which the instructor and Library Program Specialist, Robert C. Alvarez, covers in detail. Since the pandemic, the classes are offered virtually via Zoom sessions which make it quite convenient for those of us occupied with work and other tasks. Currently, the specialist offers classes on Wednesdays and Fridays at 1700 PT. I highly recommend this service provided by the San Jose library and the Edenvale Branch specifically. We have had two dozen or so applicants in the past four months with various degrees of confidence and knowledge to go through the process. Even if you know the process inside and out, Mr. Alvarez is well connected within the community with frequent updates from the USCIS Community Outreach Officer, the PARS equality center and so many additional resources to ensure applicants understand the process. In the hour long sessions twice a week, Mr. Alvarez covers the U.S. government, history, and civics questions and answers as per the set of 100 official questions published by USCIS. In class, we dive deeper into the material and go through repetition to build the level of confidence to be successful. It is just a wonderful program with a personalized touch. The instructor encourages but does not require attendees to participate. Besides the required USCIS material, it is great to hear from applicants who recently "graduated" or completed the interview process. You gain an invaluable insight of the naturalization process, and there is currently quite a bit of outreach going on to encourage more permanent residents to naturalize who meet the eligibility requirement. If you are unsure or would like to explore U.S. naturalization, I strongly encourage you to attend the courses provided by Roberto C. Alvarez. It is a worthwhile experience, and you should be in a great position after three to four weeks going through the material. Practice really makes perfect or at the very least you will know what to expect. read more

Edenvale Branch Library is conveniently located of Monterey Road. They have their own parking lot with sufficient parking spaces. The library has different programs they have the thousand books before kindergarten, they have the summer reading program, they have the bike event, they have children story hour and activities, and other events to that you can participate in. The library also has a Books sale for you can get books are most new for cheap at a very low price. The librarian here are very helpful and always willing to help. The librarians also visit our classroom for special story time with children in our program. There are theme boxes for thrashers to check out and use in the classrooms and also book bags with books for sharing with the chicken in our classroom. I would give this place a zero star if I could. Loud! Market! Not a good place for studying. You're better off going to a cafe where it is quieter. The librarians also harass you, especially the chubby female librarian with the big belly. I can't reserve a room for more than 1 hour. Internet connection suck. Not a student-friendly place! People also sleep there. I heard snoring. The police came in and gave this lady a paper. He warned her not to come, or she will be arrested. =( San Jose library is a waste of taxpayer money. They have a lot of branches but are not open to the people. Their hours are for the jobless. They close early and aren't even open on Sunday, unlike Milpitas library that welcomes everyone. Their selection of books is meager, and you always have to reserve. read more

They usually help my mom check out her Vietnamese videos. I've studied here before, but the hours suck. I wish they stayed open later. Eight is way to early to close up shop. It gets pretty loud here though since kids always run around. Good thing I always book study rooms for myself. The rule is always have two people in your room though. read more

I love this library branch! There are plenty of tables to sit and read your favorite book! The children's section has this nice corner with natural light shining through the windows! There are two computer with games the kids can use. On some days, there are story telling and reading with kids! I love the quiet room all the way in the back of the library. It's so nice and clean! The tables outside are not too bad either. The internet here is pretty quick too. So when I want to be productive, I come here. Downside: public libraries only open at certain hours and certain days of the week! Too bad it's not 24hrs! read more

I'll make this short. While I still wait for the Santa Teresa library to be built, the Edenvale branch is my primary library. The people are excellent and place is in excellent condition. I usually go to a library to borrow anime and manga, though I do find intriguing books outside of the manga world now. There's a spot that lets you drop off your materials without you leaving your car. If there is a fat knock on this library, the batch of materials is limited, but that's easily fixable by having a different branch deliver the item here. Other than that, it's a wonderful part of San Jose. +: Great staff members and materials here do a lot for me. -: The items are limited, but you can remedy that issue easily. read more

Great library. It loses a star simply because of the San José budget cuts affecting the operating hours. It has free Wi-Fi, a decent selection of books (for its size-it is small, mind you), the staff is friendly, and it is kept clean. I find it extremely funny (peculiar, in no way ha-ha) that a library has a Quiet Room. When I was a kid, the entire library was a quiet room. Now there are people on their cell phones in the library! Even in the Quiet Room! However, this is a social problem and not one related to the library. It is still a good library to go to to get some work done. read more

The library itself is not bad, but the socioeconomics of the local community is not good. There are always a few roguish vagabonds who venture into the library, but a lot of them come to use the Internet for perverted purposes. Also, the bathrooms are not so clean through no fault of the staff, but certain patrons who use this library. I do PAR tutoring here, and occasionally visit the ESL class on Mondays at 5 pm, so I think the staff are sincerely trying to keep the library presentable. I always appreciate the effort. The quiet rooms here are as expected: quiet. But the fluorescent lights are dim, so I don't recommend staying here after the sun sets. The teen room is chock full of graphic novels, and the children's section occupies an entire corner of the library. If you're here for foreign language books, forget about it. The foreign language collection is condensed into a tiny corner. The group study rooms are reserve-able online, so if you're going to be studying here, it's a good idea to reserve one. (2+ people only) Printing is 15 cents a page, and the computers don't have Microsoft Word. Oh, and the parking lot is small but there are always spaces, because not a lot of people come here at once. Edenvale is only open Monday through Thursday. read more

There are a variety of DVDs at this library in many languages: English, Spanish, Vietnamese, Chinese, Japanese, Persian, and Hindi just to name a few! Edenvale has free wi-fi, or if you need to use a computer, there are over 25 computers with internet and Microsoft programs (Word, Powerpoint, Excel). There are also tons of programs for people of all ages. Storytimes and crafts for the little ones. A recent addition to their programming is Music and Movement; a high energy program for children where they sing and experiment with a variety of instruments! Teens! Do you need to get some volunteer hours done! Do it at Edenvale.... there is the teen advisory group (teensReach) where you can not only help the library, but tell them what will make the library cool with young adults. I love this library. My go to spot for productive studying and homework doing. It's super clean inside and well organized. Most of the time I like to go to the quiet study if I'm by myself for some massive studying or I'm just sitting out at one of the tables around the fiction section. It's usually pretty quiet at the times I go. However, this library is still pretty close to the local middle school so on weekdays after school is over, you might see groups of youngsters hanging out in the teen section and making a lot of noise, which is why this bumps down to a 4 star. Another factor is probably that the library closes early on the weekend (but don't they all.. except for MLK). Plus on certain days the parking gets pretty packed so it takes awhile to find parking, or at least close parking. read more

Worst internet connection ever. My cellphone tethering with 1 bar of signal is much quicker. People talk here like it's a cafe, so don't expect a quiet library. I have a love hate relationship with this library... and it all depends on who else walks through the doors. The library is a good size.. and there's not a lot of consistently loud people.. BUT.. sometimes there are LOUD ASS teens in the QUIET STUDY ROOM.. who obviously can't effing read, which is annoying.. sometimes there are people who have 20 minute long conversations on their cellies not giving a fck that everyone else around them are trying to study or read. But I suppose it's as good as it gets for the distance. Sometimes I don't wanna drive all the way down to to the MLK and deal with the hassle of finding parking so this will have to do. read more

I was excited while they were building this location, and I've gone past this library many, many times, but I didn't stop in for a visit until today. Why did I wait so long?! This library's the closest one to my house, so it was definitely a welcome addition to the neighborhood when they built it. Some may say it's small, but I was surprised with just how spacious it was. I think it's definitely bigger than it looks from the outside. And as I've said in a previous review, when you can order a book from anywhere in the library system, the size of your local branch isn't that important. As some of the other reviewers have said, some of the books are definitely showing some wear-and-tear. Still, that's really reaching for a criticism. All in all, I'd say it's a nice little library (but still bigger than you'd think!) with friendly, helpful staff. Perfect for the Edenvale area of south San Jose. I used to love this library because it was quite and clean but lately it become very crowded. In addition, there is a place for kids, a place for group study, a place for internet users and a place for the teens which is good for each users. Thus, there is a big place for people who can study with a group or individual with all the commotion is going on around that area because the cashier counters are in that area as well. They only have one big quiet room. I used to go to study in that room because there is kind of quiet but lately I found a lot of people using it and making all the noises. That is the only place where i can find peaceful. In addition, they have an another quite room which has two big table and it is always reserved by someone. I thought library has to be peaceful and quite place to study but I believe it is not for this location if you want to study peacefully!!! read more

I stop by here to pick up books for my nephews. They have a pretty wide selection for kids for being a smaller library. I've done some work there once, it got pretty loud with kids running around the area. Overall, it's a good place to stop by if you need some books, most of the time they'll have stuff, but keep in mind they are smaller and might not have what you're looking for. read more

This is my new favorite library branch, because the Santa Teresa one was being renovated. It's new! but there aren't a lot of new stuff. The CD selection is not so great. Movies are ok, it depends. I always go to the Magazine rack but for some reason I've never seen a current issue on display. I don't know why. The quiet rooms are also a good place to study and have a lone time. I love the children's area as well. I usually request my books to be sent to this place because it is not as crowded as the other branches and it is conveniently close to home! I went there with our son for the story time with Janice. She was so sweet. My son is only 13 months and we were the only one who showed up for this event. She read books for us and was very animated. It was the first time Lucas sat through a book. She read 4 books for him and even used props like finger puppets to tell a story. The Edenvale branch has got to be the WORST library ever. Nothing is really organized. If you want to find a Korean cd, you would have to sort through holiday, mexican, american, chinese, etc cds. Who has the time and patience to look through so many cds. I usually give up. And if you were looking for a korean dvd, same thing. You would have to look Indian, Mexican, French dvds. Such a pain, such disorganization. Another reason for the epic fail of this library is that I returned 10 dvds today. I wanted to check out ten dvds. As of now, they have checked in 5 of my dvds and they are back on the shelf but the other five are mysteriously not checked in. I hate waiting what could be hours so they can check all my dvds in so I can check more out. This has happened pretty much 95% of the time when I come this branch. Horrible, inefficient, unorganized mess. read more

This San Jose Public Library location is convenient and charming for some things, including kids' stuff, and a great facility for learning and study. The map on Yelp is misguiding (as often seems to be the case). The library is at the corner of Branham Ln and Monterey (CA-82). It's a pretty small library, but it's clean and in a good location. I scooped up a library card recently when I moved here. I checked out some DVDs, which they have a couple shelves of. A nice supplement to Netflix. It is far so when I am early before work, I will go here and read my own book for an hour or so. It is pretty clean, minus the bathroom, the women's I had to search for a toilet that was not clogged, or had toilet paper and or seat covers. The sections are nicely spaced, not too small, the genres were clearly labeled above the shelves, which approvingly were not too tall I noticed. The parking was pretty good and they have a drive thru drop off, which must be a new concept or I have not been to a library in a long, long time! The workers were always working which was good, you should be doing your job. They have computers, loads of books, duh, DVDs, audio tapes, and VHS to borrow. I also saw in the cafe area, that they have books for sale! For super cheap! I would definitely come back if I had time again! read more

The baby story time here is odd but rarely crowded. This seems to be the less crowded of libraries I've New too in San Jose. I like the way it's organized and they always inform you of recent activities and events at the library. read more

I love this library it's so cute and small but roomy inside and I love that it's REALLY quiet and not crowded in the mornings BUT when I wanna snack on something their vending machines suck I mean they need to fill it up like every week I put a lot of my own money to the library (printing stuff, buying snacks, and paying my fees) so why cant they afford (or stop being lazy) to restock their vending machines and NOT let them run out of things ...FIX THAT EDENVALE! read more

Very nice public library branch. It looks kind of small from the outside but there is actually a big selection inside, of all kinds of things. Great resource for kids to learn about. The only thing that could be better would be that the hours (and days) could be extended. But I realize that's because of limited budget. Just hope they don't reduce the hours any more. read more
