Wow, I haven't been to a library in a long time but found so many good gems. I don't like placing holds and having to pick up the material so I can't always find the more popular media, but I found so many books and dvds that I was interested in! I was shocked when they had a few new book releases that were still on the shelf and not checked out. As for movies and shows, they have a huge selection of media. There were a few movies I was specifically looking for but all of the copies are on hold. Most notably, I was shocked how expansive their games selection is. They had a massive offering of Xbox, PS4/PS5 and Switch games. Everything here was clean, staff was nice and it was poppin' on a Saturday. Thankfully they have a parking garage and we had to park on the third floor just because of how busy it is. Support your public libraries!! read more

I might be biased because it's my local library, but I think the Milpitas Library is an excellent library (and the Santa Clara Library system in general)! The library is relatively new with several little rooms for meet ups etc. and a larger auditorium where they have book sales and classes/lectures. There's also a way to get discount tickets through the library, but I have never done it myself (I think you need to check in the first of the month or something). The library is clean and well kept, and the books have been in relatively good condition. The DVDs are often damaged, but I haven't found any circulation of DVDs that isn't like that. Library also has eBooks and the ability to place holds via the website or app. Holds are picked up to the left of the parking structure entrance in the first set of shelves on the left as you walk past the self checkout kiosks. read more

Upon entering the garage, I could sense this library has many conveniences to make it easy to enjoy a public library. This is great! Connection: Wifi is great! Just select SCC Library District to access. Space: This library is brightly lit and its ambiance feels welcoming and friendly. It's not enormous, but it seems to have the necessary sections and I was impressed there was an entire section of books written in Chinese. Very cool! Most of the library is one floor but there is one section that has a second floor. There is a variety of seating throughout the library including cafe style seating, arm chairs, "diner booth" high tech seating with large screens and plugs, bar style, "team" tables equipped with plugs. I was very pleased with all the options I could choose from. And many people seemed to take residence in some of the spaces and this please me because that's exactly what I need, a place where I can work for hours on end. I did notice some seating is cushioned but a lot of seating is either wood or plastic. Not sure how long the comfort will last over the hours. Fuel: No food in the library. I do see some people drinking water or even cupped drinks. I appreciate it, just make sure you clean up after yourself. Next to my table there is a trash bin and there are recycling and garbage bins around the library. read more

I've been to this library a few times to study for several hours and so far the experience has been fairly good. Parking is more than sufficient as there is a parking garage attached to the library, although it sometimes gets packed. Since it's summertime and most kids are on break, it does get busy inside as well if you're trying to find a space to work, study or read. There's only been one time though that I actually left due to no open place to study. Overall, a great library with tons of selection and study spaces! read more

A quick update on the Milpitas library. I feel like there's always something being updated in the library. I'm unsure why the main parking garage entrance is closed for now but it is. I did do the summer library reading program this year and for adults, it wasn't super great but you do get a $5 coupon for their book sale they have during the year. I ended up not using it. I'm unsure what the kids get but I feel they have their own prizes which might be more worth it. They're reorganized the place and moved things here or there so sometimes the category and last name start/end doesn't match but we're smart and can figure it out. The staff here are always very helpful. Note that video game holds are always behind the front desk. It was the first time this year that I borrowed a Nintendo Switch game so I learned something new! Overall, a wonderful library and it always has the newest books and movies. read more

We visit the library pretty often to borrow books and to drop off dead batteries. Visited the Milpitas Public Library during school winter break to get some new books for another week at home. The book return area inside the parking structure has designated 5 min parking so you don't have to find parking just to drop off book. But there's a multi-level parking structure since this place gets a lot of visitors. I like how the stairwell in the parking structure has printed maps and images of Milpitas, old and new, on the walls. The children's area inside the library is a nice large space with plenty of books to read and borrow, and a play space that is great for babies to pre-teens. Kids don't feel like they have to be completely silent there but at the same time there's space to read and do work. read more

A very modern and nice library, tarnished by the foul-smelling homeless people sleeping in there and the staff's enabling attitude. Came here for the first time recently because I love libraries. As far as those go, this is a really nice one. There are different sections with different vibes, all of them modern and clean. However, I noticed (more like smelled) some homeless sleeping in the middle of the library, with a terrible stench. On my way out, I tell the husky lady in the librarian's seat about it, and she immediately gives me an attitude as if I'm the inconvenience, not the stinky mentally ill drug addicts sleeping 10 feet away from all the children in the library. A great idea and great building ruined by idiotic employees. read more

The Milpitas Public Library is pretty nice, and pretty busy. It is on the old town part under the East Calaveras road, to the north a bit. It has a large parking lot/garage, with I think 2 - 3 floors, attached to the library building, which is really nice because it was always almost full, with people going in and out constantly, despite the Library itself not being that large. I met a client here, someone who lives in Milpitas and who reserved one of those private study rooms for us, the ones that most newer libraries have, which is a great thing for private meetings, study rooms, etc. They have several here. This central location makes it pretty convenient for most families and visitors, the large parking garage really encourages you to visit without waiting for parking. Came in on 2/28/26 with my beautiful family, we decided to checkout this library since we were in town. This library is located on N Main St in Milpitas, CA and parking was hectic inside a parking garage. What was worse was elevators not working and kind of hard carrying a toddler up and down the stairs. Otherwise this library was huge! Had sections and areas for all ages. Even had a cafe inside but the lines was long. Next time I'll find out what the hype is all about: read more

I dropped by the Milpitas library when I moved to the area to get a library card, and I was blown away by how nice it is! The building itself is gorgeous, the selection of books and other media is great, and you can even check out laptops to use wherever you want within the library. They even have the occasional used book sales, where you can get books for a really great price. The ONLY complaint I have is that their parking situation is a nightmare. The parking garage attached to the library is undersized, and it's horrible trying to find a parking spot. Not only that, it's so dense that it's pretty difficult to drive even a small car in there. Other than that, this library is fantastic! read more

This library has one of the best set up and a large bilingual section! There is a free parking garage. Though you can visit without a library card, it only took me 3 minutes to get one for my kid. At 10:30 am on a Thursday, they had a free story time for kids in English and the room was packed. They are well staffed with really friendly and knowledgeable people. I was shocked how large the Spanish kids books section was. They have a famous indoor train and slide play area. My kid was in awe but disappointed when the train didn't make sound. He is almost 3 and didn't understand the quiet part of the library. A must visit for kids! read more

This is a gorgeous library with a lot to offer - and people definitely make good use of it! When I came over the weekend, every table and booth was occupied - likely with students preparing for final exam season. They have lots of books and a good test prep section, as well as multiple information desks staffed by staff members who can direct you where you want to go. It's a big space, so you might need the pointers! This library has several book sales every year, and I was very impressed by the quantity and quality of their selection the first time I went. There are nonfiction and fiction books, a large children's book section, books in foreign languages, and more. Note that they do have a minimum credit card charge ($6 I believe). Any bibliophile will walk away happy! Check out their website for more info. There is also a parking lot connected to the library which makes it easy to get in and out. Can't wait for their next book sale! read more

Great library for the city of Milpitas! The library is relatively new at this location and so they have kept it real nice and clean! There is alot to do here for adults and children. There is many things kids can rent from games, books, and media. Great options that my kids to continue to find. There also has been a new play area for the kids that they had built in the childrens area so it makes it fun for the kids to play on the slide and railroad truck inside. They have a fun story time occasionally that is so much fun for the kids. Lots to do and rent here! Definately should take advantage of this amazing library! read more

as a recent highschool graduate, this library has been a vital staple towards my success. upstairs + west wing is for adults and east wing downstairs is kids corner. kind librarians, variety of seating, air conditioning, quiet, and free wifi. gets packed during finals though (december/may) so come at opening 10am and wifi has been broken 1-2 days at times. rly easy to apply for physical book library card at front desk. apparently applying for an account online will get u an EBOOK LIBRARY CARD only. bestsellers tend to get checked out quickly. i recommend TIME IS A MOTHER (ocean vuong) and MCCURDY's biography, both of which i managed to snag the last copy off the shelf. clean bathrooms in every corner of the building + routinely restocked vending machine near the entrance. read more

But most of all, staffs are all very friendly and helpful! They even let you borrow laptop and chargers too! It's a beautiful library! Lots of parking (though busy on the weekends), tall ceilings, lots of places to sit, and most of the librarians are pretty friendly and helpful. One gripe I have is that when holding books, last names aren't printed out on the hold receipt, and it takes me a minute to find the book(s) I put on hold. I've noticed SJPL libraries do print last names -- not sure if it would be an easy add or not! read more

I had a very disappointing experience at the library recently, specifically with a staff member named Uyen who works in the children's section. Her attitude toward certain patrons felt unfair and inconsistent. While she was noticeably warm and overly attentive to a father helping his daughters with homework, her demeanor changed completely when interacting with others. When a child politely asked to borrow crayons, Uyen repeatedly responded that they don't provide them -- not just once, but several times, and without any hint of kindness or sympathy. It was disheartening to see how dismissive she was to a child in a space that's supposed to be welcoming for kids. I was also waiting in line to ask her a simple question, but instead of acknowledging me or offering assistance, she brushed me off and referred me to the older gentleman sitting next to her. It felt like she was picking and choosing who she wanted to help. Later, I asked if I could have a paper cup to use for my daughter's painting project -- something small, since we had just participated in a science activity where they had cups and materials available. Her response was rudely concise, "Again, we don't provide cups," with no willingness to help or even consider the situation. Very unfortunate that we didn't have a little cup to wet & rinse her paint brush, do you really want us to drive back home to get a little paper cups, which anywhere would have it available? I guess!!! My 4-year-old daughter was left disappointed, and I was frustrated by the lack of empathy or effort to support families who come to the library for creativity and learning. As someone who truly values public libraries and the staff who make them special, this experience stood out as unusually negative. I hope the library can address these inconsistencies in customer service -- especially in a children's section where kindness, flexibility, and encouragement should be a given. read more

There are three libraries closer by me but I drive to Milpitas because there are plenty of work areas and plenty of FREE parking. It is also a great place since many SJPL close at 6pm, while the Milpitas library closes at 7pm. They are also open on Sundays whereas SJPL are not! Wow, I haven't been here in two years, but still a great learning experience with massive reading materials. I usually head out where they have DVD's old TV shows from the 1960's to the present. They have a large collection of CD's from classical, pop, rock, rap, hip hop and foreign music a bit of everything. I can sit in a quiet cubicle or go on the computer just need your library card and a pin number and you can stayed as long as 3 hours though depending on the time day weeknights it does get busy on a school night. There's a drop off by the main entrance which is more of a convience and you can print out a receipt of return books. Parking not a problem underground or the ones above. read more

I enjoy visiting this lovely & spacious library, but encountered a new experience today in the children's section. I used to come here to check out foreign movies and books all the time. Unfortunately, due to Covid, I haven't came here since the pandemic. It was pretty crowded at the desk/tables/chairs throughout the library today around 12:30 pm - 2 pm/Monday. Research/literature section was extremely busy and full. Foreign language & films section was ok and more quiet, but there were a lot of young students inside at every desk counter area. Walked around to look for an isolated chair to read. Finally, I found a quiet area, purple sofas by the window under the stairs in the front of the children's section. Quiet, comfortable & relaxing. Brightly lit with the natural window lights too. Everything was great. Love the space and moment of focus. 20 minutes there, a young Asian librarian came by to talk to me. She asked if I was here with a child/children or waiting for someone. I told her that I was here alone. Librarian told me that adults aren't allowed in this area if not accompanied by children or waiting for someone. I had no clue. There were no signs or displays. I don't remember reading about such policies online. New? It just felt weird based on my experiences of visiting public libraries for 35+ years. Besides, the purple seats were near the stairs by a huge window, not located in center of the children's area. Stairs go up to the literature/research section. Convenient. Anyways, I told her sorry that I didn't know in advance, so I moved out of the area to find seating in the movies/films section. Awkward feeling since it never happened to me before. Overall, free public garage parking and convenient. Love the book selections and cleanliness. Very organized with great spots to sit/relax/read/hang out. Great views. Public restrooms convenient. Bus stop in front of building. Bike friendly. No problems finding parking spaces. From 10 am to 7pm/9 pm, the library is great. Easy book drop offs and self service item checkouts at the machines. I will be revisiting, but I hope that I don't get kicked out of an area that I choose to sit at again. It really kills the moment at the library when a librarian comes up to you and tells you the area is not allowed for sitting. In other words, adults are not welcome in the children's area by the stairs unless you are accompanied by children or waiting for someone. That's what she said! read more

I've been going to this library for years and love how family friendly it is. There's a lactation pods for mothers and a huge kids area on one side of the library. They have different events held throughout the month for kids of all ages. I'm not sure how strict they are with this, but I've been stopped once for going into the kids area without having a kid with me. This was during school hours so I'm not sure how strictly it is enforced throughout the day. I think it's great for safety purposes. It's unfortunate that most recently, this library is filled with homeless people. They are either sleeping on the floor somewhere or on the chair. It makes the library smell really bad when you first enter. I get it, it's a public library and there's nothing you can do about it, but it's a huge turnoff read more

Didn't explore the library much but great place to study. Visited on a Tuesday evening. Covered garage parking. Restrooms were clean, I rarely see other library restrooms cleaned during open hours but this was. Plenty of seating with outlets. Uniformed officer making (presumably safety) rounds. No issues with public wifi too. Quiet on the first floor in my experience, can't attest to other parts of the library. read more

It's a great library with plenty of room to do work at. I used to come here to study for my NCLEX or whenever I needed to be productive. I love Santa Clara county libraries. I've only been to milpitas location because I'm local here but the other locations look just as spacious and clean. It's more spacious than SJ libraries apart from of course the MLK library. If you want to come here and want to know the best shoes to study or get work done, keep reading! Some things I learned from coming here very often: -Wifi: used to be ok, times have changed and they're REALLY BAD. I get disconnected, or the prompt to get connected won't come up. It's different every day. Some days I get lucky and I have a great experience. I tried chatting with a librarian once and they said they're trying to improve this, within the next year or so. Looking forward to that! -Parking: there are plenty the garage, lots of people come and go so I sometimes get lucky at the ground floor, sometimes it's so busy 2nd floor is taken. I think there are 4 floors, including a spacious rooftop garage. There are a few EV charging spots in the ground floor. -Almost every spot has outlet access! But at certain times almost every spot can also be taken up. It opens at 10 but it can get way too busy/difficult to find a spot around 3 pm or later. -Bathrooms: clean bathrooms upstairs and downstairs. Upstairs ladies bathroom only has 3 stalls, rarely full. Downstairs is more spacious. -Teenopolis is supposed to be reserved for teens/high schoolers but a majority of people who take up this spot aren't. I've never seen anyone kicked out for being old lol -No eating here except for the lobby. Then again, it's a hit or miss whether the security will catch you. They will tell you no eating but usually will not kick you out if you're respectful about it. Vending machines by the ground floor bathroom with snacks and drinks. -Bring a jacket if you get cold easily. Upstairs is usually colder than downstairs. Upstairs in some areas they have AC vents in the ground - Belongings: I don't trust people so I'll bring my backpack and leave a couple less valuable items to "save" my spot. Sometimes I say yolo and just leave for a short time. Some people will ask you to watch for them. I haven't experienced any theft, but also I don't recommend giving the opportunity to. Downstairs there's a Quiet Study room but it tends to get hot there. They don't have automatic blinds like upstairs. This place is quite hidden so often times it has plenty of room on busy days. -Upstairs first thing towards the left is "Teenopolis," and there are 4 sets of booths, perfect for 4 ppl each but usually taken by 1 person. It's usually full, so try coming right at opening or try catch someone just about to leave. I'm too shy to ask to share, but I personally wouldn't mind sharing the seat across from me to a stranger. They changed the tables from computer area to just regular desks. A nice addition for more seating. It's nice area, seating is parallel to the window. I believe it also has automatic blinds here. -The right side has smaller booths, designed like cubicles for privacy. They vary, seating 1 or 2 people. Because of the way it is, it's difficult to tell if anyone is leaving. These also get taken up pretty early. When I try to go for these spots I'm usually here for the long run because it's usually quiet and private. The middle-back side next to the windows is my other favorite go-to spot. I can come here around 2 or 3 and still get a spot. The chargers are in the ground and tables are similar to the quiet study room, but the blinds are automatic. You can ask the librarian to lower them when it gets too sunny in the afternoon. I prefer to sit facing window because despite the automatic blinds it sometimes still gets a glare through my laptop. Btw the manga section is on one of the walls so you sometimes can get little kids who are a bit talkative or loud look for books here. Some people also talk. I've had conversations here myself but the general consensus is to be quiet lol or bring headphones. Because no one will tell you to shut up unless you're being extremely loud. -There are also more seating towards the back-right side of the library. The middle area has library computers. I tend so see a lot of regulars here. -The downstairs by the children's area is typically kids only. I hear people get kicked out if they notice you're not with or waiting for a kid. read more

Such a beautiful library! I went here as a visitor to the state and had so much fun and felt welcomed :)

Awesome library!!! I think this is the best, cleaner, bigger and newer I have been and I think I am member of every library around, Sunnyvale, San Jose, Milpitas...book addict! I became member of this one recently because although technically I am in San Jose, this is closer to my work place and is perfect to go grab some books and mags during my lunch time. Parking lot is a bit tricky...I never find a free spot (it is a very popular library, you feel so good there!) so most of the times I have to park far away in the street and then walk. When back to my car with many books is not always fun, but I guess they did not design the parking for that many people. I am glad to see that the foreign language collection is huge and pretty updated, at least the books in Spanish language. Thanks to this library and the fabulous building I learned a little bit of more history of Milpitas, like this Grammar School that once was there (the facade is still intact). I love to see the old pictures with the happy students of decades ago. Keep up with the great work! read more

Milpitas Public Library is one of the nicest libraries I've ever been in. Unlike the aged, cramped and slightly confusing organizational system many libraries have (I know we have the Dewey decimal system, but still), everything about this library is modern. The library itself is huge, with 2 wings, upstairs, downstairs... and sections of books and age-apropriate seating arrangements for children, teens, and adults. I knew this because of the signage all around helping me make my way to the nonfiction section, and clear labels on shelves to help me find my book. Apparently this library also has its own parking area too. There are soo many tables, comfy chairs, and outlets. Some of these are placed right next to windows or in booth arrangements for flexible seating options. I saw many people working here getting studying or coding done - either on their own computers or the many available for patron access. The environment is silent and very easy to focus, but not oppressively so. The floor to ceiling windows and natural lighting help the space feel bright and productive. Fun fact: I also saw this huge shelf dedicated to test prep books, everything from high school AP tests to professional/ career tests like the DAT, CPA, or NCLEX. So useful! read more

This library is a really nice area to study in. I like the idea of having cubicles for privacy. I will give a 5/5 for that. The only reason why I'm giving this a 4/5 is the wifi problem. It's slightly annoying having to reconnect every 15 minutes of inactivity. It is also annoying having to connect it in general because of troubleshooting issues. Other than that, I would recommend going to this library for a quiet study environment. read more
