I was a bit undecided whether to get a cat sitter or to check in the cat to a cat hotel. I'm a fairly private person and was wary about letting strangers in, while I'm away. Steve is a fantastic cat sitter. I recently moved to the area and was worried about finding someone I could trust to take care of my cat and who I felt comfortable letting into my home while I was gone. Steve was extremely professional and prompt in all of his communications. We had an initial appointment where I met him and he got to know my cat, and right away I could tell kitty would be in good hands. He is usually a shy cat but warmed up right away. Not recommended for cats that need medication 2 times a day. The first day I was away, a Sunday, I received my cat visit reports at 8:21 am and 3:23 pm, indicating a 7-hour window in between. One of my cats needs medication for a chronic condition twice a day. While it doesn't have to be administered 12 hours apart, it's ideal for her to receive it in at least a somewhat balanced way. When I asked if the cat sitter could visit the cats later in the day going forward, I was told: "I cannot guarantee a visit time as, traffic greatly impacts my ability to serve all kitties in my care. I can tell you that kitties with medicine needs are always at the top of the priority list so I will do the best that I can. Morning visits are always before 10 AM and evening visits are always after 3 PM." While he had told me this before I hired him, I had assumed that "kitties with medicine needs are always at the top of the priority list" meant visits of more than 7 or 8 or even 9 hours apart. Also, this response was hard for to understand as the day these visits occurred was a Sunday, i.e., traffic should not have been a hugely relevant factor. I don't believe any of the visit times going forward were separated by more than 8 hours. There were several other concerns I had, that I'm choosing to believe are a result of this cat sitter taking on more business than he should. I'm sad to say that I never felt like there was much interest in or concern for my cats; it definitely felt like a simple business transaction. A few examples include: - sending pictures of my calico cat (with a female name) and referring to her as "he" [Calico cats are always female (a male is very rare) - anyone with basic cat knowledge knows this!] - setting up the 'meet and greet' in mid-June when I wouldn't be leaving until late July - as someone who has done extensive work with cats, both at shelters and as a cat sitter, I can say it's not ideal for the cats or for familiarity with the routine when a tutorial is 5 weeks before any scheduled care/visits - leaving lots of cat fur on the rug and the string cat toy on the ground - string cat toys should never be left out when cats are unsupervised for safety reasons. I did not ask the cat sitter to remove fur from the the rug in advance but it seems like common courtesy (it would have taken 1 minute to pick up the large clumps of fur) - both to me and to the cat who clearly likes to sleep there! For all of this, I paid $60/day - which felt like far too much - because I needed two visits for my cat with health issues. Obviously lots of people are very happy with this cat sitter, and I'm sure he does love cats. I really believe that the experience I had was due to being overbooked during the summer. As such, I would highly recommend not taking on too many clients at once. read more

This is my wife and I's first time having someone check in on our fur children. That said, Steve was our choice for this task after looking at numerous options and while we were nervous to trust a stranger with our pets, our fears were quickly calmed due to his quick response for a meeting to get an idea of space, needs, and meet our cats who at the meeting warmed up to him pretty well. We scheduled Steve for 3 days to make a visit. He was admittedly earlier than I expected day 1 which was nice to know he was on it and was immediately communicating his experience. Day 2 and 3 were more middle of the day due to weather and wanting to make sure the house was not too warm for them. He kept the updates coming, pictures were hard all 3 days due to our cats hiding while he was here. However, that was no problem as we had a home camera for us to see them on our own which we did.
