Mmmmmmmmmmmmmmm lovely clothes but drop the pretentious attitude. So what, its the Lisburn Road but that is no reason to inflate the prices.

My son is a serious devotee of menswear. While on holiday in Northern Ireland, he ran out of clean…read moreshirts, and we went to several places that didn't have his size (14 inch neck) or an XS slim. I confess that my feet gave out, so I went back to our hotel. 40 minutes later, my husband sent an SOS--"we might be in trouble-- please come here." Dutifully, I put on my shoes, trotted to North and saw the trouble was potential bankruptcy. Because everything in the store is top notch and well worth its asking price. My purpose there was to rein in purchases. Instead I saw a gorgeous claret colored tweed overcoat, pulled it out, and wouldn't you know it fit my son in the shoulders perfectly. The fellow in the shop when we were there -- Turbo --was amazing. Honestly--just keep prodding him to learn more about how the store is stocked and the garments are made. He and his partner buy lovely hats, belts, luggage, and they design gorgeous shirts, waistcoats, jackets, suits, and overcoats. He even showed us a photo of the master weaver who creates their tweed. Now you are thinking that you can't possibly afford anything here. In fact, we found the prices remarkably fair. I have paid more money for lesser quality garments. My only regret is that we didn't have more time in Belfast -- and of course that I didn't think until they were closed to ask about how to purchase and tailor a coat to fit me. Needless to say, we will be watching their website, and next time we are in Belfast, this remarkable shop will be our first stop.

Their shirts are made to measure, and they have any range of styles, colours, ties etc They ran an offer in the paper a few months back and my Dad thought he'd take advantage of a voucher to be spent here. Anyways, we went in, the nice, well dressed fella came over to us, showed us around the shop and then did his wee measuring and suchlike on my Dad. I pondered around looking at shirts, some costing more than I earn in a week, but all of them looked really good and really fashionable. My Dad is under the impression everyone should have a good shirt, like a proper one that is expensive and stuff, not like a Primark one that has all the buttons. Anyways, they made the shirt exactly the way Dad wanted, and rang when it was available for collection. The shirt was perfect and the service was top notch. The only downside is that the price of some of the shirts is quite high which is a disappointment because I wont be able to afford them for some time. But the quality and service cannot be faulted. Excellent

LIke the shop, upstairs offers excellent quality and finishing certainly in the sleek wood panelled surroundings. Amongst the clientele were people who might well avail of the clothes in here. The quality of the coffee that I ordered was of a similar standard, though relatively more affordable. For a change from usual hurry scurry city cafe atmosphere the coffee shop is pleasantly restful and a good bet for a civilised snack lunch discussing business plans perhaps...

Once you've had your fill of shopping in the city…read morecentre (see my reviews on CastleCourt and Victoria Square), there's still a few places left to burn out the credit card. Just a five minute drive from the city centre, Boucher Road has quite a few shops in it, most of which are located in Boucher Crescent Retail Park or Shane Retail Park (see my review on Shane retail park). There are men and women's clothing shops (River Island, Next, Burton, the Jeanery...), a sports shop, HMV, Starbuck's, Boots... the list goes on. There's a hell of a lot of space dedicated to parking here, but it can still be very difficult to get a space on a Saturday or Sunday. It's not a mall type place where you can get lost in, it's one of those places where the shops are all lined up in a row and you come out of one shop and into the next one - good for methodical shoppers, or those who don't have a lot of time. The downside is that the traffic on the Boucher Road can be crazy between 4 and 6p.m. But, if you're a visitor and you're out for a day's shopping, get yourself a 'day ticket' (see my Translink review) and you can take a trip up here before/after shopping in the city centre.

Something has happened to Warnocks since I used to be dragged there by my mum for new school…read moreuniform. Of course that was quite a while ago. OK, a very long while ago. Upstairs is still the land of the school uniform, with everything your offspring could need for all the main Belfast grammar schools. The bill quickly adds up when you're buying uniforms so take advantage of the 10% off during July. You'll miss the August rush too and anything which is too small by September can be exchanged. I can still feel the pain of paying £40 for a leather satchel. Downstairs is where the transformation has taken place. Sadly they only do men's clothes but what they do for men is really good. There's a large range of Barbour coats, hats and scarves and every fashionista knows that Barbour is having a revival this year. They also have some lovely Lacoste knit wear which is what the husband goes for, Canali shirts and a casual label which I haven't seen anywhere else - Paul and Shark. Warnocks delivers old fashioned customer service where the staff will wan to see the garments on, advise on fit and maybe even take measurements. This can be a bit of a culture shock after the kind of service you get in most shops today where the staff studiously ignore you. Once you get used to it, you realise that they really will help you but what's right for you.

It can get pretty hectic upstairs here in the school uniform department at the peak time towards the end of the summer holidays but I have never found the staff anything other than highly organised, efficient and unflappable with sensible advice to offer on kitting out a grumpy teenager for school. Sometimes the young assistants have been at the schools in question themselves which is all good because there is no way that the delightful offspring will listen to mother! There is also a selection of school shoes, albeit unpopular with the nearest and dearest, and a men's clothing department of downstairs.

I had gone in for a shirt for a special occasion to meet the organisers requirements I had a simple request in mind of 1 of 2 options the member of staff that served me could not have been more outwardly annoyed and not bothered about serving me I liked the shirt he picked out and requested a larger size as I did not like the fit. I tried a similar style in the correct size and agreed to purchase it. I was escorted to the till as if I had stolen something while the other staff members eyeballed me. I was giving the pay point to pay tapped my card and waited for the shirt to be handed over at which point I was given a book to put my details in and told ill be called when its in stock. I had to ask 4-5 times when that would be before finally receiving an answer which off course felt like I was asking for something completely unreasonable when I told them I needed it for a specific date and could the confirm it would be available I was once again told ill be called handed a receipt wished my good days and the sales men walked of to continue whatever conversation he had already started when before he was inconvenienced with having to do his job. This is a constant theme in this store every time I visit and regardless to what im buying its constant belittled treatment. I would not recommend anyone to shop here with so many other options in the city centre. I have given this store and staff enough chances and money.
