I got a $524 quote from the dealer. I looked up a quote for Safelight, and with an online coupon it looked like their price would be $380. I figured that I might end up having to go with Safelight, since I wasn't familiar with any other place to get the work done. That's when I got some good karma, after asking for windshield replacement referrals, at my trusted auto shop Miramar H&A Auto Center. One of the customers overheard me asking, and he referred me to Affordable Auto Glass. He said he'd been going to them for many years. I emailed for a quote through Yelp, and was pleasantly surprised that Gino's quote for replacing the front windshield on my Honda was $200 less than what Safelight would have charged me. Like I mentioned, good karma. I scheduled the appointment for Thursday, July 6th, and Gino met me at my work to complete the windshield installation. He was very professional, and he answered all questions that I had. After the windshield installation, he advised not getting the car washed for 48 hrs, and he also gave me his guarantee on his workmanship, should I have any issues. Before giving the details of my visit, I'd like to provide 1 paragraph of context first. In October of last year, I purchased a 2026 Hyundai Palisade Calligraphy. Four days later, I got a crack over the A-pillar of my windshield that spread and required a new windshield. Because the vehicle was so new, I could only replace the windshield at Hyundai. It took me 6 weeks, more than 40 phone calls and 3 in-person visits to 4 Hyundai dealers to get it replaced. The part WAS available, but Hyundai's service departments no longer answer their phones with people. It was a horrible, frustrating experience. So when I got a ship in the replacement windshield less than 7 months later, I was terrified of needing to go back to Hyundai. I immediately called a few glass shops about crack repairs. I didn't mention I had insurance, because I wanted to see who would be the fairest priced. Sam offered me both the best price, and the best response over the phone "I'll try to save your windshield." The chip was not in a great location (just over the dashboard) and the crack had already begun to spread, so it was a tough repair. When I arrived, Sam took time to explain the process to me, as well as any possible risks. He didn't obligate me to proceed, he gave me the option to do so with full disclosure. He mentioned that some people don't like this approach - they would prefer to just be told "everything will be OK." I understand that, but I will say that personally I MUCH prefer being given the accurate information and then having the opportunity to make my own decision with no pressure. Obviously, I proceeded with the repair despite the risks, since NOT doing the repair would have just guaranteed that I needed a replacement. When the repair was complete, it looked great. The crack was barely visible (an unexpected but happy outcome for me), and it has now held for over a week of driving. It is clear to me that Sam takes pride in performing great service, at a fair price, to fully informed customers. I don't know what more you could ever ask for!
