1994 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo 4WD 5.2L V8 I got this Jeep from a friend for free because her son severely overheated the engine and failed to notice the temperature gauge. He also did not pay attention to the oil In 2011, I had my Jeep's engine rebuilt by Eddings, and now, 12 years and 100,000 miles later, it's still running great and it uses no oil. When they rebuilt the engine I had them balance it, as well, which was money well spent, because Eddings discovereed that when the former owner of the Jeep had the engine rebuilt when her son blew up the engine the FIRST time, the rebuilder (not Eddings) had used connecting rods from various other similar engines and it was badly out of balance. The engine still runs as smoothly today as it did when I first got it back from Eddings, which is virtually perfectly smooth. I was impressed that Eddings took the time to blueprint all of the intake and exhaust valves, in their respective groups, and make sure they were all the correct and equal lengths. This also contributed to the engine's smooth running. Because the cylinder heads had been cracked when the prior owner overheated the engine, and because I was very concerned with the susceptibility of the stock Magnum heads to cracking, Eddings sourced some heavy-duty heads from an Australian company, and used those. These heads are very heavy castings, not prone to cracking, and they flow better than the stock heads. My Jeep runs great and is very reliable with 240,000 miles (overall) on it. In fact, when the transmission finally died 30,000 miles ago, I spent quite a bit of money getting it rebuilt by a top transmission shop. The reason that I did this is because the engine runs so well and is so durable now, that I wasn't worried about the engine dying before the rebuilt transmission met it's maker. I'm fully expecting this engine to last several hundred thousand more miles, not only because of Eddings' work, but because I fastidiously maintain it with top quality oil, filters and coolant changes. Obviously, I very highly recommend Eddings Engine Rebuilding. They were not the least expensive, but they are one of the best. read more

Had my SBC 327 rebuilt here. Wont even talk about the issues which happened during the build process, just the ones that happened now. Installed the motor and put 300 miles on it and the entire time driven had to deal with oil leaks. EVERYTHING leaked. Valve covers, oil pan, REAR MAIN SEAL, front cover seal... where does it end!!! What kind of shoddy work is this?!? Let's call and see if they will make it right and fix their crappy work. Call after call after call, numerous messages left, and not one return phone call. I will never bring another motor here or ever refer anyone. Do not trust this shop. Absolutely terrible read more

Frankly, I will never ever do business with this place again. Customer service is ATROCIOUS, they're rude, and they quote one price then give another. I dropped off an engine to have rebuilt, and here's what happened: 1) After quoting me one price to tear it down, they then informed me later that the tear down took longer, and they wanted another $75. (Which is a direct violation of Bureau of Automotive Repair rules and laws. You can't quote one price, then jack it up later without customer approval.) IF they had explained to me from the start that the price MIGHT go up if the engine was a hard tear down, OK, I could live with that. But they didn't, and they didn't seem to understand why trying to jack up the price after the fact is an issue, even though the LAW says they can't. 2) They told me they'd call me back first thing the following week, and I never heard from them. So I call them a few days later, and they have no idea what's going on, but will get back to me. 3) Then, they tell me they want to charge me even MORE than they quoted originally to check an extra head I had brought it. We get disconnected, I call back. Some woman answers the phone, (turns out it's the wife of the owner), she's rude, abrupt, and refuses to give me the name of the owner when I asked three times. Then she hangs up the phone on me. They call me back, and I explain that hanging up the phone on customers, and trying to charge extra after a price has been quoted isn't acceptable, and the owner, Gerry says: "why don't you just pick up your engine and stuff. We don't want to rebuild it." Interesting how a polite conversation about their lousy business practices results in this. Hmmmm. When I went to pick the engine up, half of the work had been done, half had not. Gerry then tells me the price I paid was to have the block checked, but didn't include checking the head. HUH? Who rebuilds an engine without checking the head? I tried to engage Gerry, the owner, in a polite conversation about how they did things, and he just doesn't get it. His wife who hung up on me sat behind him listening, and not once ever apologized for her rudeness. Their communication is LOUSY, the owners wife is RUDE, and they left me with a disassembled engine, boxes of parts, and half of it is dirty. I'd avoid this place, and will NEVER, EVER use them again. No wonder they've got other complaints. read more

I've had other SBC and BBC engines rebuilt, freshened, and dyno'd here in the past. I've always had a great experience at Eddings. Super knowledgeable and fair pricing for the quality work they put out. About a year ago, I had them rebuild my pump gas 383 due to a cracked block. Guy rebuilt with a new Dart block, sold me a set of used Brodix heads and added a custom roller roller cam. Dyno'd at 503 hp N/A and 700+ (can't remember exactly) on nitrous...I was driving down the road this morning and realized a year has passed and how happy I still am with this little 383. It still runs perfect with no oil leaks. I towed a 7000 lbs. trailer last week, no problem. The custom cam and bigger heads allows this little motor to pull STRONG till 6500 RPM. I love driving my piece of crap truck with my hot motor. Sorry for the delayed review, thanks Eddings! read more

Don't bother taking your car here, maybe they were good at one time but not anymore. A shop is only as good as the mechanic that works on your car and this one sucked, he was a arrogant ass. When I brought my car back in after having problems he would not even listen and the owner Jerry is so hands off he lets this jeck run the place. They were really expensive and my car never was right read more

Run... Shady operation. I wrote a check to then with year and model of auto and they applied my money to someone else. Auto sat there for 3 months and nothing done. read more

Fast service with a smile. Price is fair per the area market but the work is exceptional. Absolute highest quality work performed on my engine. Upon startup the engine was smooth and quiet no noises no leaks and excellent performance (several performance upgrades were performed) The parts that were used were of the best quality and the machine work was spot on. Now 2 years after and over 40 k miles it is still running as sweet as it did on day one. Passes smog with no problems always a clean tail pipe readings. Jerry is a exceptional person always willing to take the time to explain why and how he dose specific things. His son Eli (hope I spelled that correctly) assembled my engine with complete attention to detail and overlooked nothing. The engine was spotless and needed nothing when I installed the engine. If you are looking for the FLAVOR OF THE WEEK don't come here. If you are looking for a cheap quality parts don't come here. If all you want is the lowest price budget quickly overhaul don't come here. you can find that kind of machine shop on some street corner down in los angles. If you want quality craftsmanship Fair prices on quality parts and some one who takes the time to assemble your engine with the care you deserve then go to EDDINGS ENGINE REBUILDING read more

Eddings Engines came highly recommended by my mechanic, and I am so glad I went there. I have a classic car that had engine problems and it ended up needing a new rebuild engine. Eddings customer service was AMAZING, from when I dropped it off, to when I picked it up. Their pricing was reasonable, and so was the timing of all the work that they had to accomplish. When I picked the car up, i was a little hesitant in driving it, since before the new engine the car just didn't run right. But, within a couple blocks of driving it home, my car drove like its never driven before in its life, IT DROVE AMAZING....I was feeling happy and I wanted to keep driving and driving and driving. :) I really could go on and on about how wonderful my experience was at Eddings Engine and how happy I am with the work that they did. If I could give them a million stars I would. They are honest, reliable, nice, and I will recommend them to everyone. read more

I used Eddings to build a 500+ hp blown big block. After Eddings researched, machined parts and assembled the motor, the engine dynoed over 800hp with 735ft torque. I am more than impressed with their work. The price for the work was also very cheap when compared to other engine builders. read more

My experience with Jerry and the shop was entirely positive. Only a post-job delay keeps this at 4 stars instead of 5. Mine was not an engine rebuild, but a bench test and run-in of the rebuild I have done on a classic car. They were great sourcing a part or two, with Manuel, the actual mechanic, conscientious and thorough from start to end. They also installed and tuned an electronic ignition to replace original points and condenser. We never talked price before the work, yet I felt the charges entirely fair once completed. I'd recommend them. read more

I had them rebuild my Chevy 350 back in March of 1989. 24 years & 120K miles later, it still runs sweet as ever. Honest, reliable quality!! read more

So I came to an agreement to a cash price to have my engine rebuilt by the owner, Gerry. I drove all the way from Palmdale to visit the facility just to see the quality of work that they do. The work looked good and the facility was nice however Gerry wasnt there but his wife was and she said that they were not going to do it for the price that I was told already. She told me that he just hadnt had a chance to email me to tell me. Then she said that to paint the engine it was going to cost $25 more when that was in my quote already. I guess they didnt need my $1571. Their website has prices that do not match up to what they quote. The thing that was most annoying was the fact that I had my Impala transported to my Mechanic in Los Angeles who i paid to pull my engine out. Everyone is not on the same page over there and the shop where I will be going has heard the same story about Gerry's Business partner(wife) driving away customers. Whats so ironic is when I first talked to the owner I told him I did not see any good or bad reviews about his business. Well, here you go. read more

Eddings is as good as it gets - period. They helped me do a Citroen DS 21 engine - increasing its compression ratio and got the lifters redone by a fellow in Hollywood. Now have some 142,000 miles on that engine and it still as good as new. Would not go any place else read more

I would like to say that I got ripped off by this company. I was charged a total of 240.00 to get a head resurfaced, cleaned, pressure checked and had valve seats replaced. the engine head was still dirty when I picked it up, to the point where you could pull dirt and oil out of the head. The head was resurfaced and placed in a hot bath, is all the work that was visible. For the valve seats are still dirty after it had been "replace". I paid them and left I will never return to this place again. Please learn from my mistake this place SUCKS and its a rip off. I wish I could give a no stars review. read more

Eddings Engine is fantastic...Fair prices and quality work. I've had them do machine work on a sbc short block, completely rebuild and upgrade a BBC plus dyno, and dyno another BBC. I beat on all these motors hard. One motor is in a v-drive boat, one motor gets nitrous, etc. Never had a failure. I recommend Jerry, Guy, and Ely to all my friends with complete confidence. read more

Really bad, bad experience with the new owner and operators, I have to say that this company has been in business for a very long time, but have never got it together specially when it comes to handling warranty work, I had four engines done with this company and every one had problems, but finally I got fed up and had to warn other so they don't makes the same mistake I made. They make sound very good and use nice pictures on their web site but is nothing like this when you need warranty work from them. They probably spend a lot of money promoting their company but if they would use some of that money to cover for the warranty repairs it would probably a more efficient advertisement. When you start to file warranty claims no one seems to be responsible and the so person in charge is never available to resolve the issues until you give up trying to have your problem resolve; that must be the strategy to fix their problems. If you could get access to their warranty contract before you have work done on your vehicle you would see there are a lot of disclaimer and every is lay on you, so there is no real coverage and very little left to be able to file a claim in court. So don't bother using this company. If they get to read this review, they are probably saying there is no such thing as a bad publicity, I hope this is not the say the readers see it, it is bad, really customer service, but if you decide to use their service, your find out the hard and costly way and you will be writing a review like this later on, son maybe just copy it and save it for late use, so all you will have to do is copy and paste it. read more

I would not take a lawnmower here, not even a cheap, Chinese one. These people are worse than bad, liars, cheats and morons. Gee, where do I begin? Got a quote from them to rebuild my 429. This was for removal and installation as well. Rebuilding: 1400, Remove and install, 1200. I drove out of there, faaar past the promised 10 days, 3 months later, 5100 poorer than before. Result? 206 HP. This engine from the factory had 212 HP. What's so bad about this is that the performance parts I had provided should have put this engine at around 550 HP. They charged me for everything, which should have been included in the price. They would call me every few days and tell me; 'Oh, we need to do this or that', or 'you need to buy this.' This place is a joke. Gerry should not be running an ice cream truck. Their mechanic only had one eye for crissake. They even charged me for installation of headers that didn't fit. His wife should have stayed in the mail order catalog. The engine was only working on two of the four barrels (carb), they threw my temp gauge up on the dash (didn't bother to install it), and the engine seeps out of every possible gasket, some I didn't even know exsisted, and I'm a mechanic. The only reason I didn't do this build myself was that I didn't have the space or time. The reason I didn't sue these people is because the car sat for various periods while I did other things to it; suspension, steering, body work, etc. Didn't realize the sheer depth of negligence till too late. I am embarrassed to drive my car. Only after about 2500 more bucks, this thing STILL doesn't run like it's supposed to. I did complain however, once I took it back and they replaced a coil that checked out fine later, and then when I complained about the leaking, Gerry tells me to bring it down where 'it will have to sit till we can get to it.' I'm not waiting another 3 months, Gerry, where your one eyed mechanic can rip me off further. After asking them 5 freakin' times to paint the engine well, they didn't bother, saying the paint would interfere with the garage? Yet they painted the engine there. Gee. Find a local mechanic, ask around, check reviews. I don't want this to happen to my worst enemy. This is just sad. read more
