There aren't many places I would go to Berwyn as I live in Philadelphia, but Ed Forde Service Center is one of them. The guy is now my mechanic and while I leased a new car and won't be needing him for the moment, I will use him whenever I can for oil changes, state inspections. My Honda Civic had broken down and I was refer to him by Tommy's Main Line Towing (see my review on them). When my car was there, Sparky cut to the chase, rather than fix a part and have this car break down a few months later, told me I was better off finding a new car, as the engine problems had become severe and I was already 100,000 miles into my Honda. In addition, he found me a place that did salvage work and the payment for the salvage work would cover my first lease month. So, instead of paying an arm and leg as you do with mechanics, Sparky actually try to make my transaction almost free. But in addition to that, you'll see many police cars and mail trucks are being fixed here. So, Berwyn, if your local cops and mailmen trust this guy to repair their vehicles and keep in mind cops and the mailmen need their vehicles constantly as it is part of their job, I think its safe the town can trust Sparky at Ed Forder Service Center. In addition, the area that Ed Forde Service Center is a modern area that surrounds Berwyn. Yet, Ed Forde Service Center has been here since 1964 and it doesn't look like it changed appearance much. My guess is in the 50 years, its been honest and there's nothing to change about it. read more

Made an appt to specifically change the transmission oil, and also asked to checked the spark plugs to be changed how much would that cost. 2 very specific tasks, i didnt want any maintenance of any sort, i do all that myself. I dropped the car in the morning, hours later i get a call that my transmission was unique (mazda cx-5) so they would charge around $350 instead of the $200-250$ initially estimated, and the plus another $280. So i called the Mazda dealiership in Conshohocken and they charge $260 including tax for the oil tranmission so i return their call to deny any service from them because it was not what i had planned to pay. They told me to give the 45min before picking up the car, because they were road testing it. So once i get to the place 1hr and 10mins later, the car was not there. Took another 5min before they arrived from the road test, and i had to pay a $51 bill for "lifting the car to inspect, and road test". When did i ask for any road test? i just wanted 2 very specific tasks done. Just open the hood, see the transmission or check online what type it is to give a quote. I was angry to pay even $51 for not doing anything, and road test? i know what is wrong/needed with my car, didnt need any road test, didnt even gave me results from that road test, so was that just a thing they did to be able to earn a few more dollars out of my pocket? never coming back. read more

Sparky and his team are very professional and always willing to help.

This business is a total joke. Sparky is rude, disrespectful, and has no respect for women. He tried to inflate prices over a tow because he drove himself into a dicth and got stuck with my car on his truck! He tried to use aggressive and nasty language on the phone to scare me into paying some absurd made up price. He doesn't take responsibility for his own actions and mistakes. The police seem to baby him because they respected his father. He is far from the good citizen his dad may have been. I have had to file 3 police reports involving him. Sparky called me names and told me to get out he didn't want me there. He improperly stored my car. He refused to take my payment. He doesn't have prices posted. Sparky makes up the rules as he goes. Sparky comes off like he is under the influence of drugs. Hife wife or phone girl is also rude and nasty. And if you call the police on him, just be ready to stand firm because they won't jump to help you. He clearly likes to take advantage of wealthy women from the main line area. Luckily for me, I'm broke so I'm not going to let him get away with this bull! read more
