I approved the repair at the price quoted and had fully functioning AC within an hour of his arrival. Early on Friday, 6/14/2024, at the beginning of a heat wave, I had the same type of cooling problem. I called D&H, and left a message but got no response. By Saturday, having heard nothing, I called a different number and got voice mail again. I spent Friday, Saturday and Sunday with heat in the house reaching mid 80's, and no contact from D&H. I called again early Monday morning and was able to speak with someone. D&H dispatched a tech here very quickly. The tech and his assistant did a pretty through job of diagnosing the problem and told me the system is low on Freon because of a leaking coil, that my HVAC system is 16 years old, and the Freon it uses is no longer generally available, its manufacturer having been banned by the EPA 10 years ago, so I should replace whole system. He said it would be cost me about $14,000, but that even if I said yes instantly, D&H couldn't get and install the equipment in less than 10 days. I asked for a written quote with specifics, was told they would send them and the techs left without charging me for the visit. I felt pretty trapped, without time to make any kind of informed decision or to get multiple quotes for a big ticket item. After D&H left, with the temps in my LR reaching 88 degrees, I called a second company, who arrived within an hour. They came to the same diagnosis, but offered to try to recharge the system for AC that should last for weeks if not months, giving me time to shop, and they also promised to provide replacement quotes. I agreed to the cost ($460 including the visit), they charged the system and cooling went back to normal. As of 6/22/ I've gotten nothing from D&H. As far as they know, they left a customer without AC during one of the worst heat waves in memory while that customer was trying to buy more service work from them. Obviously I won't consider any further business with D&S.

FACT 1: Most other companies will give you the first answer they can come up with, rather than spending time looking at cost effective variables. Benny found one of the problems, replaced it, and was open & honest about what the problem COULD be, but he wanted to have the Arctic Air company owner (Andy I think) look at it first. FACT 2: At this point many other companies are looking for ways to charge you more, multiple service calls, etc. But that wasn't the case with Arctic Air. It was legitimately two honest guys trying to find the BEST overall solution for ME. Side Note: Two reputable companies had come out and (correctly) diagnosed the problem. One said the repair would cost just under $4k & the other company said the only fix was to install a new system for $8k. This is important because Artic Air was aware of the previous diagnoses and knew I was between a rock and a hard place. They also knew I was willing to replace the whole system because I was about to sell the house to somebody I knew & I didn't want a cheap/quick/crummy repair for the next owner to deal with. The next day the owner came out (on his own time & dime) and after 5 minutes it was clear this guy had some sort or Bobby-Fischer/Doogie-Howser/Lawnmower-Man gift for HVAC. His seemingly effortless comprehension of a very atypical set-up w/ complex variable was extremely impressive. I know a little about HVAC, at least more than most. So perhaps I was more impressed than most people, who'll see one "repair guy" the same as the next. In hindsight I recalled Benny, the first tech, explaining how the owner trained him from his first day. And it kind of made sense why Benny struck me as different, in a good way...... ....ARCTIC AIR is owned by a passionate & talented HVAC veteran. So it makes sense that he is ONLY going to employ those who're capable of the same combination of passion and intelligence. Long Story Short: I was in an extremely vulnerable situation due to the repair potentially needed and the time I had to have the heat pump in excellent working order. All Arctic had to do was agree with (what they knew) the last two companies said. But honestly I don't think doing that even crossed their minds. It wasn't a hustle to them. I've dealt with 12-15 HVAC techs and have only met one other with this same mentality of unwavering integrity. After parts, labor, and needed adjustments (both other companies missed), I saved literally thousands of dollars and was charged less (for both parts & labor) than ANY other company I'd ever dealt with. Really, most HVAC problems are fairly simple. But if you like NOT getting hustled, or know you have the more rare or complex problem, definitely give this company the opportunity to earn your trust and I think you'll see what I'm rambling about. Thank you.

I found out after our HVAC system was installed that no permit had actually been pulled for the job. I originally wasn't too worried as a friend recommended them to me. Boy was I wrong to assume it would be okay. Firstly, it took them three months to complete the install. The time lapse had nothing to do, with parts availability. There were many days that they scheduled with me that ended up being no call, no shows. After a few days of this I started reaching out mid day to get an idea of scheduling. The days they did come, they were often hours late. The company is run by two brothers in law. One is the licensed HVAC tradesman, who is very nice, but as io mentioned wasn't very good at communicating or keeping to any type of schedule. I was inclined to overlook this, as he is very nice and was always apologetic for his tardiness or no shows. Stuff happens I get it. His brother in law who seems to be the primary owner and seems to run the business side, of things is the primary reason for my bad review. He openly argued with the tradesman and My husband and I about placement of the mini splits we were having installed. He kept insisting that his placement was the best option, despite the license holder and my husband's objections, who happens to be a licensed electrician as well as the customer. He eventually hired a plumber to run the condensate lines for the system. The plumber did extremely messy work, and ended up plumbing the condensate down an interior wall that then exited the wall to two 90 degree bends and down through the floor of our kitchen which was in the process of a remodel. When I questioned it, I was told there was not other way to do it. This was completed at 6pm at night on a Saturday and we just wanted them out of the house. We had our plumber come in a few days later to see if he could change it, as the way it was set up would affect our cabinet layout. No need to get HVAC Front Royal involved, it would be a small fix. Our plumber would be able with ease to get more of the piping in the wall. Upon going under the house to fully look at and complete the job, our plumber discovered that the condensate lines were not run to code. He subcontracted plumber had run our condensate incorrectly into the sewage lines, in our crawl space. Because our plumber was there and there were concerns of the way it was done, we had him fix it on the spot. We then went to HVAC Front Royal and explained what happened, and asked that they cover the cost for the condensate line to be fixed. We did not include the cost of moving the lines in the kitchen floor, as we planned on just easting that cost. Long story short we went back and forth for 6 months of them arguing that without proof from an inspector that it is wrong they would not do anything. They did say that if an inspector came back saying it wasn't to code, they would be sure to reimburse us. I ended up going to our town hall and explain what had happened to the inspector and providing pictures of the work done wrong and pulled a permit. The inspector wrote a report showing the violations. We then presented that to HVAC Front Royal and the subcontracted plumber. They still refused to reimburse us. They actually proceeded to try and tell us that we owed them money because they miscalculated the cost of the job. Meanwhile, they had invoiced us the final invoice, and we had paid it in November 2024 about a week after the job was completed. I have the email showing that it was the final invoice. It is now July of 2025 and I am writing this review since they refuse to stand by their word or hold their subcontractors to good workmanship. I gave them ample opportunity to make it right, before exposing them for who they are. One of the reasons they are refusing to pay is because I got angry and mean on the phone. Well yes I am angry and expressed it after having to deal with this nonsense and lack of integrity for months.
