We recently purchased a ~20 year old townhome, and wanted it painted throughout to update the colors and deal with the usual wear and tear. We learned of Ecopia Painting and Marcin by referral, and were highly impressed after we had the opportunity to see his work. In that, we were highly fortunate, because to simply write that Marcin and his crew at Ecopia did a beautiful job is to sell them short. What distinguishes the work of a craftsman from a journeyman painter is what you don't see - not just the experience to recommend the right paints, for example, but more importantly the preparation before any primer or color coat goes on. We've previously done most of our painting ourselves, and although we did work to prepare the walls and ceilings beforehand, most of the work we put in was the actual painting. Not so with Ecopia. The majority of their work was to make sure every surface - walls, ceilings, window trim, doors, moldings, and everything else - was patched and sanded perfectly smooth, stripping off old layers where needed and making sure the result was perfect. After preparation, painting itself was a careful, precise effort, and the final result was beyond fantastic. Throughout, they were respectful of our time and our need to live there while they worked, and they accommodated small changes in plan efficiently. It surprisingly difficult to find good painters but Marcin did a great job. We had a leak from the units above that resulted in a bunch of different areas of our home requiring paint, inclusive of our baseboards. Marcin recommended a gloss paint to keep our baseboards cleaner and they look wonderful. He also went above and beyond in painting our bathroom ceilings, sanding down the terrible work done by the previous painters and even taking off the vent covers and vacuuming them out. Marcin truly is as good as it gets when it comes to painters. Many painters will overlook needed wall and ceiling repairs so they can give you a lower quote to get the job and at the same time avoid the more difficult and undesirable part of the job, "the prep work". Marcin does not take shortcuts. It is obvious he takes tremendous pride in his work and it shows in every step of his process. He takes the time to cover furniture and floors and is meticulous in both his prep work as well as his painting. Marcin patched areas of my walls, ceiling and crown molding which resulted in a finished paint job that was better than any previous paint job we have ever had. While prepping, after he patched everything that needed patching (even re-nailing a piece of window trim that I never even realized was incredibly loose) he used a Festool vacuum sander to sand all the walls and the ceiling to get as smooth a finish as possible without creating any dust. (just an f.y.i., Festool is a German company that makes some of the best tools on the planet and is very expensive, the only reason I mention this is because it further shows his dedication to his profession and how he is not willing to compromise in his work or the tools he uses for his work). If you read this far it should be obvious to you that I whole heartedly recommend Marcin. A few other points I forgot to mention. He was always on time and never rescheduled. He leaves the house cleaner than when he arrived and he is one of the nicest guys you can meet. I would really like to emphasize my last point. If you are going to have someone working in your house, whether it be for a half day or an entire week, you want someone trustworthy and possessing integrity, Marcin embodies these traits and within minutes of meeting him you will understand. He is a genuinely really good dude. B.t.w., Marcin painted my living/dining room combination and hallway. This fall I am having him back to paint my kitchen and basement. Marcin at Ecopia Painting is just the best! He just finished painting my whole loft including the baseboards and trim and I am so happy with the results. He is professional but also so incredibly kind. I work from home and have a dog so we were there the entire day while he was painting - this guy does not take any breaks! I don't know how he does it. Every night he left everything clean and organized and on the last day he made sure all my furniture was moved back into place. He was extremely helpful in picking the type of paint and finishes that would work best. He also recommended I swap out my old fish-eye recessed lighting for led inserts. I didn't even know they existed - it was the easiest switch (he put the new ones in after painting the ceiling) and makes the biggest difference. He also did little things, like install a door stop on one of my doors so the hook on the back wouldn't hit the wall (and ruin the paint). All of this and his price was incredibly reasonable and didn't change from the quote he gave me at the beginning. I couldn't recommend Marcin enough to anyone in need of painting. I had a rental condo in Chicago that needed painting and ceiling repair (ceiling paint was peeling off). Marcin was very responsive via the Yelp request for quote, and also over email. He gave the lowest quote out of several different businesses, and was able to schedule a time that worked for our tenants who wanted to have the job done ASAP. In addition, my condo building has a lot of strict building requirements regarding insurance and required a lot of paper work. Several contractors/painters I came across did not want to deal at all with this, but Marcin came through with all the paperwork necessary very promptly.
