We had a wonderful experience with EcoLandscapes Design, who built a new fence and raised bed and laid down a beautiful bluestone patio in our South Philly back yard. Dan is a creative, caring, and communicative business owner. His team, led by Seth, was an absolute pleasure to work with - they did a truly fantastic job and were so nice and helpful throughout. After they were done, we had a small issue with drainage (because right after they laid down the patio, there were torrential downpours for days, not allowing our pavers to settle). I'm not kidding when I say within five minutes of emailing Dan on a Friday evening to let him know, he called us to say he and Seth were coming over right away to take a look. Because of continued bad weather, they had to come back a few times over the next few weeks to make sure everything was good. I don't have TEN stars available or I would truly award them. Mike, Eddie and Tom installed a raised bed for me where an old holly tree was removed. They got rid of the old roots, stones and made an incredibly beautiful replacement area for planting. Mike and the team were courteous, tidy, and did the job like it was for their own home. Finally decided to stop the mowing service and have Dan give us some ideas for a wildflower meadow on our front hill. After a description of what we had in mind, we decided to engage their services. Last week Mike and his team arrived and began to transform our front hill into what will become a beautiful meadow come this spring. The team worked diligently every day last week, were incredibly knowledgable, professional and attentive to our questions and concerns. I can't say enough about the job they did and how pleased we are with the cleared and seeded result. Knowing how important butterflies and conservation is to us, Dan included twenty butterfly bushes in the planting and also in the seed mix. We worked with Daniel & his EcoLandscapes team to update our landscaping.  Overall great experience with a highly professional and knowledgeable team.  We would work with them again for future projects. Project budget: $10-20k for 2/3 acre property.  We wanted to keep what we could and replace old plants and trees with new low maintenance ones. The Consultation & Design: Daniel walked through our yard with us and provided us with ideas for each area. He knew every plant on our property and helped us identify what could stay vs what should be replaced, which was very helpful for staying within our budget. He took pictures of all of the areas and then overlaid the plan over pictures of our current spaces to help illustrate how everything would look a few years following the project. We had minimal deviations from his original plan, and for each one he was quick to find us another option that fit our project and budget. Implementation: We had multiple crews at our house to remove the existing plants/trees/weeds/ivy, re-size the beds, install new plants/trees, mulch, and set up drip hoses. Pete was the project leader, and he was there every day overseeing everything. He was very friendly and walked us through what the crew had done each day so we were all on the same page and made adjustments as necessary. All of the crew members were very polite and accommodating, going back over areas to make sure we were 100% happy with everything. It only took them 4.5 days to complete all the work. We did have to get 1 larger tree removed by a different company, but Daniel and his team were able to handle other medium/small size trees/shrubs and their stumps. Following the implementation, Daniel provided us with ongoing instructions for maintaining the new landscaping, and gave us advice on the bushes we kept/areas not covered by the projects as well. They will also replace any plants that don't survive installation. read more

If I could post 'before-and-after' pictures here to prove how significant a transformation this has been, I would. We bought a house in Haverford that needed to be gut renovated - and the yard was no exception. It was overgrown, consumed by english ivy; there were random collections of stone/boulders everywhere; plants that aren't native to the area where causing problems... I had basically just given up on the outside, in favor of putting my budget into things like drywall and new electric. When spring came, we realized how important it was going to be to get that garden under control. Daniel came over to scope it out. He is highly professional, exceedingly knowledgable and very well organized. He took pictures, jotted down notes, listened to everything my husband and I had to say and made recommendations on how to fix that mess. He followed up quickly and sent us a detailed breakdown of what to expect in terms of pricing (which, by the way, was more than reasonable, as these quotes go), and within a day, we had him scheduled for August. His project manager, Taney, and the entire team are a force to be reckoned with. They're also super professional and knowledgable and friendly (they're happy at work and that comes across... and as you know, that's rare). Here's the thing: they can pretty much do everything. I want to make sure it's clear that these guys can do everything from weeding and mulching, all the way to jackhammering a driveway, leveling land and designing for irrigation and water run-off. They're more like landscape engineers - and they have a damn good eye for design too. You'd be hard-pressed to find such a well rounded and talented group in one team anywhere else, if I'm being honest. They showed up early, worked in brutal heat, were thorough and clean and went over and above, when they saw things they just wanted to fix, because it bothered them. I am a complete beginner gardener and was looking for help with planting 2 beds near our mailbox. I came across Daniel Cleary and Ecolandscapes through recommendations on Nextdoor and Yelp. Engaging him was the best decision I could have made for my project. Given that I was a novice, Daniel prepared me for the in-person consultation beforehand. He suggested I look at different types of gardens, think about the budget and share my Pinterest/Houzz or other board with him. For budget, he sent pictures and estimates of 6 different projects he had completed, which helped me figure out my price-point. During consultation, Daniel listened carefully to my requirements. He sent a photoshop design within a week, explained the reasons for plant choices, answered my questions, discussed and agreed to alternate plant choices - all while being mindful of my budget. He was very responsive and used email communication extensively. On the day of planting, his team - Brandon and Angelo arrived before time. Daniel placed all the plants and sought my opinion on it. The team took pictures of the placement, laid the landscape fabric and planted everything with organic compost and starter fertilizer. We recently moved into a new construction home in Roxborough that had ZERO landscaping. One of the reasons we moved from Center City to a more suburban location was so that I could have a real garden after 15 years of container gardening. This was going to be a major investment, so I did a lot of research and then decided to reach out to EcoLandscapes based on reviews and photos I found online. The owner, Dan responded immediately and we set up a time for them to come out for a consultation. I explained my desire to have an Asian influenced garden and boy did they ever deliver. It was a large project done in two phases and included front, side and back yard gardens. To complicate matters, we live on a pretty steep grade and neighbors behind us did some landscaping that complicated issues by diverting a lot of water onto our property. This required a dry creekbed and underground drainage solutions which took some time and patience, and on site designing to figure out. But the end result is nothing short of amazing! I worked closely with Dan designing the beds and choosing plants. He was open to my ideas and really listened, ultimately creating a design that was exactly what I wanted. His foreman, Taney, visited several times to walk, measure and talk through options with me based on the complicated grade of our property. The crew were here for a total of almost two weeks during the course of three months. I found them friendly, punctual, professional, courteous and just great to work with. When it came time to do the work, Seth and two other professionals showed up to replace my front lawn and curb strip with sod, and plant five box woods in front of my patio. From beginning to end, this was a pleasant experience. I had never hired a landscaper before and struck out with vendors at a local home show. I'm not in a position to add outdoor kitchens and fountains but wanted some simple garden beds. One contractor blew me off and another gave me a ridiculous price. Luckily, I found Eco Landscapes on Yelp. If you don't know what you want for your yard, then Dan can design it. I had no clue what would work in my space. This was so not my area and I struggled to find my "landscape style". Some of us just don't have one! Thankfully, this was not a problem. Dan was on time for the appointment. We walked around the yard, he asked a lot of questions, took notes, measurements and pictures. Within a few days, I had a workup of what he recommended and I was happy to schedule it. My husband and I are both allergic to bees so Dan was careful to pick plans and flowers that wouldn't attract them. There was a weather delay that was out of everyone's control and Dan apologized about the snow. That is how nice of a guy he is. Communication has been excellent the entire process. The work took two days and the crew couldn't have been more pleasant. I was home during that time so of course I was nosy. (Hey, it was my yard and my money!). Everyone I interacted with was polite. There were no cigarette buts or empty water bottles strewn about which is an issue I've had previously. They went above and beyond with their attention to detail. I recommend the idiot proof option where the hook up a sprinkler system for you. The timer is all set and I really don't have to do anything other than weeding, and I think I can handle that. Even though I have limited experience with landscaping, I used to work for a general contractor and know a good crew when I see one. These people take pride in their work and love what they do.
