Bayview-Hunters Point

After not coming for a few years, I'm really impressed they finally made a stage outside. A few…read moreyears ago I remember having a rave in here and it was so hot and cramped together that I hated coming to this small venue. Parking is still annoying but that's everywhere in the bay. We actually walked from where we were staying. It was nice, we got there a little earlier than usually, the only line we had to wait in was to get inside but it looked like security was thoroughly checking bags and IDs. The bathroom inside essentially had no line, and it was clean. They also had porter potties by the stage outside so there was never a problem going too far or waiting too long for the bathroom overall. They do have a water station which I appreciated. There's only 1 little spout on the left side of the bar. Which is fine. I didn't really go inside after the later night started. I like what they did to the place.

* * * * R&B & Ribs Event * * * *…read more Note to self: Wear Depends next time! Cuz the VIP restrooms were phuckin' disgusting - it wasn't even 6 pm and the toilets were overflowing (wouldn't flush), no TP, no hand soap left, and the sink was clogged. The worst part? There were only 2 women's stalls so the line was longer than the GA porta potties. Now that I got that out of the way, I'm SO glad my friends were down to go to our first R&B & Ribs event to re-live our hey days! Fun fact: R&B & Ribs was created by two SF chefs (Nopalito + Outta Sight Pizza)... to have DJ friends play R&B and invite chef friends for a cookout. The event has significantly grown in popularity (for good reason) and has turned into a huge block party with dancing, sing a long, and headliners. And, this year, it was Keri Hilson, Lloyd, and Soulja Boy!!!! The block party is 2 pm-10 pm with the after party held inside the club stage until 2 am. Tickets: Three tiers * GA: Long line to get in. GA area started to get packed by 5 pm. * VIP: No line to get in. Closed off areas to the right and left of the main stage. Got shoulder to shoulder packed by 8 pm. * Skydeck/Rooftop: No line to get in. Elevated outdoor rooftop/deck area that overlooks Islais Creek, Bayview Rise mural, and the waterfront. You have access to all other areas except seated ADA section. 110% worth the extra $ because it's limited capacity AND there's plenty of room to dance! Food vendors: MZF BBQ, Adjective Animal Tacos, Gumbo Social, Prubechu, Akus BBQ, Sticky Business, Smokin D's. Onsite resto: Madam Zola's For 2 am drunchies, they had a handful of street vendors outside The Midway. I respect the hustle but the dirty dogs had no bacon (!!!) and taqueria fare we tried were ehhh. (+) The Midway's staff was awesome! Quick responses via email and kind in person. Shout out to Tyler and Emma! (+) As someone that's claustrophobic and avoids large crowds, the skydeck/rooftop option is a game changer. You get to enjoy the energy of the large crowd while having breathing room. (+) Plenty of bars to get your drank on! Nomi inside the club was great to my friends. (+) Huge 40,000 square foot industrial indoor and outdoor area for block parties...there's a nice lounge area inside with plush booths and proper tables and chairs to enjoy your grub. (+) Great sound system (RiDE) with powerful bass. (+) Regular, clean restrooms available inside (lines were hella long tho). (+) Free street parking! We easily found parking 1/2 block away at 3 pm. My sister and her friends came later at 5 pm and found parking 3-4 blocks away. (-) Not enough security and too lax. * One fight broke out below us and one girl in the sidelines got punched in the face. Not one security personnel to be found. * VIP wristband checks were inconsistent, allowing people in without access. (-) No bar or restroom access in the skydeck/roofdeck. Super inconvenient and limited our alkie consumption. PLEASE change this! Overall, The Midway is a solid event spot for a mini music festival with an awesome sound system, multiple indoor + outdoor spaces, and industrial warehouse vibes. See ya next year at the 2027 R&B & Ribs event! P.S. - Wear comfortable closed toe shoes! Sure, you'll look hot in 5 inch stilettos but after an hour, you're struggling like a baby giraffe on roller skates.

It's a beautiful building designed by Julia Morgan, with a deck that has great views of downtown and the bay. The director and the woman who deals with events are both really nice and were very flexible and helpful in accommodating our needs. They let us do all kinds of decorating, and the result was gorgeous. We used the main theater room for both the ceremony and the reception--just cleared people out to the outdoor areas and lobby while setting up the room for the reception part. This is probably the most affordable venue for weddings in the Bay Area, and they don't have requirements like some for in-house caterers. The kitchen is small, but you can rent additional rooms for your caterer to set things up. There are two outdoor areas, the deck and the front of the building, where guests can spill out on a nice day. There's room on the stage for a DJ or a band. For a sit-down dinner, the main room can't accommodate more than 100 people, but we had more of a cocktail party with about 120. There was still plenty of room for dancing, and we ended up having a really fun party.

The view is amazing, the wood paneling is amazing, and overall the space is so welcoming and comfortable. Having separate spaces for people to visit or alternatively have quiet moments, plus an area for food+beverages, was just what we needed. It was also a good feeling to support the work they do for the community.

Shhhhh. It's a secret!…read more Loved this place! Ended up there for Halloween and was so happy to see everyone there in like minded fashion had dressed up in thoughtful and original costumes. No store bought sexy nascar mechanics or purple hatted pimps here. Everything about the place exudes cool, right down the giant doomsday ray in the downstairs lobby.

Then you're directed down a long hallway, up two flights of stairs, then down a shorter hallway then you're suddenly inside what can only be described as the best makeshift treehouse you can imagine. Your 8-year-old self is in heaven! I was in awe of this place when I walked in. It's small, but they still managed to put so, so much into it! There's a portion of a ship coming out of the wall and a captain's room next to it stuffed with books I've never heard of and many, many comic books with paintings and a roll-top desk. You go a bit further inside, seeing many, many posters and paintings throughout the way, then there's the world's tiniest bar to your left with the 1970's style black and white tile chipping away on the floor in front of it. To your right there will be the world's tiniest skate ramp with another room at the top of it. That's right, in order to get inside that tiny room, you'd have to climb up the skate ramp, like you would a slide that we all attempted to climb up as kids on a playground. In the very back of that room is the stage, and to the right of the stage is, yes, that tree house everyone has talked about. There is just such a vintage feel to this place, like you're going back in time. It's simply beautiful. On this particular night, we all had the enjoyment of listening to oldies from the '50's and the '60's while we all had cheap beer and played Berlin Style ping-pong. Everyone had a blast, whether we were awesome at ping-pong or terrible at it, we all had the time of our lives! I HIGHLY recommend going at least once to check it out. Once you find it, it's worth it! I can't wait until their next event, and it's so close to the 16th and Mission BART station! The Secret Alley should be on everyone's bucket list.

The building was a printing press back in the day, so it's a bit of a maze but that's part of the charm. I've discovered some amazing local businesses. I recently went to their February artisan food fairs, and bought some delicious food products. They had a variety of food vendors: hot sauces, honey, dips, cookies, teas, and more. As for the craft fairs, respect jewelry, candles, cutting boards, and even a few food vendors. That's where I discovered Apisol, a woman-owned company based in the Peninsula that makes delicious sparkling honey beverages. Don't miss the vintage store on the first floor, which has really unique vintage products like postcards, buttons, posters, and more. There are so many fairs in the city, but the vendors here are ones that I haven't seen anywhere else. So check out their insta or their website for dates to their upcoming fairs.

I never heard of this place until a fellow Yelper brought this up to me and I said SFBox? I never heard or been in this location before and I am sure most of you never heard of this place either unless you search for history of the William Randolph Hearst printing press building so many years ago. The building was built in 1926 as a printing plant for the San Francisco Examiner. It is a nice mixed use building like a nice cozy maze to explore the nice layout and architecture of the old print shop. So upstairs about 2 floors and vendors are scattered so it's like a hunt for them, almost like a needle in haystack. Lol Well it's not that hard as you won't miss anyone. Too floor that where you will satisfy your sweet tooth . Yummy. The vendors that were there were a nice mix from tea, cheese, spices, India coffee , Turkish spreads, ice cream, giant cookies, healthy drinks, spreads, and I am sure you will find something you will enjoy. I don't normally buy stuff, but the honey , red beet, 2004 sweet land Bingdao $95 brick tea that is aged 21 years that can make 175 tea servings for $95, Il Fiorello basalmic vinegar was thick and smooth great texture and syrupy taste very captivating and Taste of Levant tahini and their chocolate jar of molasses was excellent and I had to buy them. Yummy in my tummy! Not sure if same vendors will be there again, so catch them the at your farmers market, festivals or next Eats event!
