When the guy got there, he said that he needed to change out the whole mixing valve because he has never seen anything like the cartridge that needed to be replaced. He told my mom that the brand was "UPC." Well, UPC stands for "Unified Plumbing Code," which isn't a brand. The actual brand ended up being American Standard. I had my mom text me pictures of the mixing valve once she got it out. After about 10 minutes of searching, I found the cartridge she would've needed online. Here are the links to the two-piece cartridge that she would've needed: https://www.amazon.com/American-Standard-A954-4400070A-Pressure-Cartridge/dp/B0017XOWY4?th=1 https://www.amazon.com/American-Standard-M952100-0070A-Pressure-Balancing/dp/B000I7QY3M/ref=pd_bxgy_d_sccl_1/138-6290933-7847859?pd_rd_w=oXU1V&content-id=amzn1.sym.615d9037-0d71-4715-8421-5695fbf26656&pf_rd_p=615d9037-0d71-4715-8421-5695fbf26656&pf_rd_r=APRHXHSDXY6T9ZFC5WQC&pd_rd_wg=tnKwx&pd_rd_r=d0ee6609-b45e-449f-b6ac-df93c196bbcc&pd_rd_i=B000I7QY3M&th=1 Did this plumber really not know that these were commonly available American Standard cartridges? Or was he just trying to upsell a job to someone who didn't know better and wasn't in a position to choose differently? Consider that plumbing service calls run you $150, so even to get another company out to come do the replacement already puts you $300 in the hole for service calls alone. If you're looking for a company you can trust, look elsewhere.
