I've been studying Wing Chun and doing kickboxing with Marek for a little over two years now. I come from a Kenpo background and a strong school, so have had high expectations. Under Marek, I have been able to increase my striking speed, my general body movement, and have become more intentional with my choice of technique and strategy. One of his intensive areas of focus is relaxation, and how one can more easily channel energy through the body and into the point of impact by deploying a more relaxed form. This has dramatically increased the impact of my strikes. Marek's approach is truly "eclectic". Marek has fused other disciplines into his general approach. He has included Tai Chi techniques, song-intensive focus, and Kali and Arnis knife and stick skills into the broader curriculum. He teaches what works! And this has been so important for me, because my goal is effective self-defense. It really doesn't end with physical technique, though. Marek blends the spirit and the intellect with the physical piece. It is important to grow one's spirit and to understand what one is doing through bio-mechanics. Marek teaches both areas along side technique and, if you join Marek's classes, you will come away with a knowledge of how your body works, how your muscles move and how your mind can affect both. None of these are the best thing about Marek. His passion for teaching and his engagement with his students is the most appreciated characteristic. I have known Marek for several years. He is a person of high integrity. He does not teach just one style of Martial Arts he teaches many. That is something that I have never found in any other Martial Arts schools. The great benefit of this is that you can find and pick which style that you like the best if you have never tried learning a martial art. Eclectic Ground school is first class in every way. Eclectic Ground was kind enough to host a self-defense session geared toward young girls heading off to college, & my friends and I, whose seven daughters attended, could not have been more pleased with what our girls learned. Marek demonstrated several self-defense tactics, gave advice on when to use each one, and provided ample opportunity for the girls to practice with a partner. Our daughters left with new confidence in their ability to know what to do should a dangerous situation arise, and their participation in the session gave us moms an added measure of peace as we sent our daughters off to college for the first time. I have always wanted to try Tai Chi and found Eclectic Ground Martial Arts and dragged my husband there with me. Two years later he is probably more hooked on it than I am (which is saying a lot!).
