When we enrolled staff went over everything with us including cost, schedules, expectations, payment and answered any questions I had before we enrolled. Any questions that I have had, any of the staff has always been able to answer my questions or find someone that can. My son has learned so much, made great friends, had great mentors in his Sensei's and had a lot of fun in not only the classes, but the camps, Halloween party, competitions, etc. This karate community has been amazing for our son and family. Don't fall for the high pressure sales tactic. I would NOT advocate for this lack of empathy of a local company.

What incentive is there for kids to try hard when it doesn't really matter if they try or not? When I was in Karate, we had to try hard just to get a stripe, or 2 or 3. These people are passing out belts like a free meal on Colfax. I wouldn't recommend. You should be awarded based on skill, not on if you pay your monthly bill.

They have all competed at very high levels and know their techniques inside and out and are as open and generous with them as possible. Train with them for a while and you become family. Unpretentious, no egotism, no macho, just excellent martial art with a sterling lineage. If you want to learn real Karate go here, you will not regret the descision. He's becoming more independent and proudly offers to help more with his new 'BIG MUSCLES', which is the sweetest thing. The instructors are patient, encouraging, and truly care about each child. We had our 3 year old signed up for their 30 minute class once a week, and for the first few…read moremonths, it was going great. We really loved the teachers, they were very accommodating the couple times my child got sick and had to makeup a class and overall very friendly. Another child enrolled and was threatening to bite my child, on top of other alarming behaviors. I spoke with the teacher who said that she agreed that the behavior was not okay and that she was working on pulling the child from the program. 3 weeks passed and nothing changed, so we called to pull from the program. The teacher said she wanted to try to fix it and would call us back, she never did so we called back, again stating we were pulling. Master Silva was cordial and the call was ended. Then, two days later, another teacher from NMAA called me trying to get us to stay. Reiterating what was previously discussed, as well as adding the fact that I could enroll my child in two twice a week activities for the same price as her 30min/week martial arts class, I was then told that I had signed a contract and needed to give proper notice, and that I was liable for the following month, whether my child attended class or not. I asked them to send me the contract and they refused and when I pressed them a little more on this made up contract, they finally left me alone, agreeing that I wouldn't have to pay for the following month. After looking over their one star reviews, I now see that they do this to anyone who wants to leave their program. We planned on returning when my child was a little older but after how they handled themselves, we will never be returning, and want to warn others of their shady business practices and flat out LIES.

The instructors are incredibly patient, motivating and kind. I feel so fortunate to have had the opportunity to train with these strong and skilled instructors, particularly Master H and Master Natzke. There are also a myriad of wonderful junior and adult assistant instructors and I love each of them. When I sprained my ankle numerous times last year and have gone through other medical issues, the administrative staff were understanding and supportive and I had no issues pausing my account. There is such a great atmosphere and it truly is a UMAC family - I highly recommend visiting for a free class.
