After being installed for less than 2 years, I recently noticed silver specs in some of the ice cubes. I threw them out as I found them, hoping whatever the issue might be would resolve itself. It continued, so I googled the issue and found it was most likely pieces of Teflon from the ice maker's tray sticking to the cubes. I had a new ice maker installed this week (OEM this time, despite the higher cost), and when the old one was removed, I saw that MOST of the Teflon was gone from the tray. While my new ice maker's tray is made of actual Teflon, this one purchased from appliancezone.net was clearly just Teflon coating. How long this has been happening and how much of the paint I've inadvertently ingested in the last 2 years I can't say, but you can see from the pic how much of the Teflon paint (darker gray/silver specks on the tray) came off; the entire tray was that dark color upon receipt/installation. Also, though it was advertised as a proper replacement part, it didn't fit correctly with the fridge's water inlet hose, causing some water to leak with each fill, spilling into the dispensed ice bucket to form unusable masses of ice I had to throw out constantly. Cheap rip-off product from a company I'll no longer do business with (and there are plenty of similar reviews of this company online).
