Opps. I accidentally removed this post, editing some spelling. Here it is;
I've not only purchased my share of automobiles, but while in college I actually earned a living selling and leasing cars in Boulder, and Denver, CO, so I have a bit more than the layman's knowledge of both sides of a car deal.
I noticed a vehicle (Audi A5) for a great price on CarGuru.com. I submitted my name on line, and shortly received a call from the company's rep. I had asked that they call me later that evening and advise if the car had been sold because it was a long drive up there, and I was planning on making it the next morning. I didn't want to travel there if the car was gone. They said they would (and did while I was driving home).
I eventually decided to take a look at the car, so I traveled there after work.
The Dealership is a very clean, and has a very welcoming environment. Rob, the associate who greeted us explained the dealerships concepts and processes. When he said Echo Park didn't take any outside loans (they would beat any pre-approved loans), it was disconcerting because I had arranged, and had a pre-approved loan with USAA. I had bought several vehicles through them, and was comfortable with that process.
I put that in the back of my mind, and took the A5 out for a drive. Rob explained that the dealership didn't have a vehicle over fours years old, and they didn't sell the high-end exotic cars so many dealers have in their lots (for whatever reasons). I asked Rob what the most expensive vehicle he had in the lot was, and I believe he said it was a pick up truck (around the $40K+ range).
So. We drive the A5, and I loved it. It was in beautiful condition. Rob produced the CarFax, which was clean. One owner. No accident history.
We sat down to see what Rob could do for me on a loan. I was surprised when he beat USAA's rate, and full financing (everything), within minutes. I've been a member of USAA since 1974....
The documentation, half paper, and half electronic was a breeze. There was no pressure in an extended warranty pitch, which I declined (vehicle still had a few years of the full manufacture's warranty).
I did add the Gap Insurance (a couple dollars a month) because I was shopping for a new car due to an accident where my Q5 was totaled by an idiot slamming into me on I 25 when traffic stopped a week prior. I was dealing with negotiating with USAA on the car's value, and was looking at a difference of about $1,300.00 at my disadvantage, so the Gap Insurance made perfect sense to me.
I will tell anyone that my car buying experience was amazing at Echo. I thought about haggling the price a bit, but it was already more than $3,000.00 less than the Kelly Blue Book price, and listed as an "Outstanding price" by CarGuru.com. Rob also said the price was "fixed". I didn't make a "challenge" because the advertised price was already excellent (I did my due diligence on pricing), so I can't say for sure if anyone can really negotiate for a lower price (really, I thought it was the American Way :) ).
Bottom line with me is that I was very impressed. As I mentioned, knowing the business, and the games, even the "no haggling" dealers play, it is not easy to impress me when buying a vehicle.
So. I took home a beautiful Audi A5 that night.
I will tell you that if you want a vehicle no older that four years, a better interest rate on your loan, and actually Enjoy a car buying experience, the folks at Echo Park have figured out a way to give you that, and quickly.
Kudos to Rob, the Managers, and the ownership group for figuring out what car buyers really want, and delivering it in a professional and compassionate manner.
