Unfortunately, the worst car shopping experience I have ever had due to customer service. To make a long & drawn out story short, I've bullet pointed the prominent contributions to my experience: Ordered a Mazda CX-30 to be shipped from Texas. January 15: Spoke with German, who said the vehicle was flagged for repair before shipping (later stated it was a title transfer issue). January 16: Informed reservation would expire the next day; told to schedule an appointment immediately. January 17: Asked about "express pick-up" before seeing or test driving the vehicle (declined). Met Aaron, who became primary salesperson. Test drove vehicle; decided to return Monday to finalize decision. Had to reschedule Monday appointment; Aaron said Saturday would be fine. January 20: Received message that vehicle hold was at 6 of 7 days and an appointment must be scheduled immediately to avoid losing reservation. Scheduled Saturday, 1/24/26 at 3 PM; received confirmation text. January 21 (6:29 PM): Cristiona (Sales Manager) stated appointment was scheduled in error and vehicle would be released unless customer came in that evening. Expressed frustration about lack of clarity regarding 7-day hold policy. Felt pressured to provide documentation to create buyer's order before second appointment. Declined to move forward without planned visit. Saturday Appointment: Noticed full tank showing only "170 miles until empty." Low key fob battery warning. Requested battery replacement and service check for gas gauge. Aaron agreed to replace batteries. Aaron and Cristiona refused service check on gas gauge; stated vehicle would self-adjust and referenced 10-day return policy. Felt pressured to complete purchase. Asked to leave vehicle on lot until partner could pick it up; felt unheard as Cristiona repeatedly focused on reservation expiring. Aaron commented, "I could never do her job," after interaction. Waited for finance processing while Aaron assisted other customers. Completed purchase; vehicle left on lot for later pickup. Vehicle Pickup: Full tank now read "160 miles until empty." Approximately 9 miles into drive home, "Engine Oil Level Low" warning appeared. Researched warning; advised to stop vehicle immediately due to potential low oil pressure. Upon parking at home: oil warning, tire pressure light, and low key fob battery warning all active. Contacted Dean (Sales Manager). Arranged for vehicle to be towed next morning. Service findings: Oil filter and drain plug seal leaking (required replacement). Battery disconnected and instrument cluster reset to correct gas gauge. All tires underinflated. Key fob batteries needed replacement. Frustrated because gas gauge and key battery issues were raised before purchase but not addressed. Requested dealership keep vehicle; planned to return it within return window. Attempted to contact Aaron regarding title assistance; message left on read. January 31: Called twice requesting Aaron; told messages would be relayed. No return call that evening or following business day. February 2: Returned to dealership to complete return agreement. Assisted by Casey. Casey acknowledged experience was not typical but stated he may have responded similarly regarding gas gauge concern. Aaron approached, asked what was wrong. Expressed dissatisfaction and lack of follow-up. Aaron stated he was busy until 9:30 PM Saturday; did not acknowledge lack of Monday follow-up. Observed unprofessional behavior (frustrated gestures, walked back to his desk and frustratingly pushed a chair, walked out of the office for 10 minutes). Overall experience included: Confusion and pressure regarding reservation/hold policy. Dismissal of mechanical concerns prior to purchase. Multiple preventable mechanical issues immediately after purchase. Lack of communication and follow-up from sales staff. Unprofessional conduct from management and sales representative. Result: Returned vehicle and lost trust in dealership due to poor communication, pressure tactics, unresolved mechanical concerns, and lack of accountability. read more

Went here to look at cars, spent an hour on the lot narrowing down what we wanted to test drive, so then we went in to ask about a test drive. The guy at the desk put our name in and told us no one was ahead and it would be 5-10 minute wait. We left after 30 minutes of no one coming to assist us. Went through the whole appraisal process, had to do the Colorado power of attorney as my dad is on the title and lives in Florida. Came back a week later after calling CarMax twice to verify the process only for them to tell me at the end right before accepting the car that they don't accept Volkswagen credit. We have been trying to purchase a used car for five days now. The personnel at car max have no clue about financing through your personal banks or credit unions. When we thought we had all our ducks in a row, another issue came up with the final paper work. Still no new used car. Car Max need to hire personnel who know what the heck they are doing. Nothing bad about the Westminster location just CarMax in general these days (October 2025). Everybody there is nice. But Shipping costs to customers to a different location are super expensive. Carmax no longer comes every close to KBB for your trade-ins. You can drop several thousand dollars in 1 month for with no additional miles. Worst of all they do not LOCK prices for cars being shipped . In other words you can ask to be shipped and by the time it gets to another Carmax location the price can increase by $1000. I have purchased half a dozen cars from various CarMax over the years, but this place is a joke. The initial car buying experience was pleasant, but the final inspection was garbage. Nothing they promised came to fruition: the car was dirty, the windshield was cracked, the existing dings were not buffed, and the cabin air filter had not been changed. After requesting it be cleaned a 2nd time, the sales manager (Will) became confrontational - suggesting I should use "acetone and elbow grease" to remove bugs, etc. myself. They said the bike slime was someone's attempt to get this car sold. It cost me $1958, and the Tesla mechanic said even if I had hit a curb or pothole the crack would not be this big. Carmax refused to call me back. Mind you it's been since Saturday night that I've had this car. It sat in the driveway Sunday and I barely made it to work by 1pm yesterday. We bought a vehicle with CarMax. Dick Jones made the process very easy and is very friendly.

Awful experience from start to finish. I ordered a car and after weeks of waiting they didn't have the right paperwork to sell it to me. When I was able to get the car, it took them over an hour to find it on the lot, then another two hours to purchase the car. When they found the car, it was full of hail damage and missing pieces of the exterior of the vehicle. The only redeeming piece of this process was one kind person in the service department who got me an appointment and these parts fixed. Two months later, the car completely died - no turnover, won't start with a jump, nothing. Many phone calls, emails, and chats later, still no one has responded to me. This is the third car I've purchased through carmax and I will never return. read more

We purchased a vehicle from CarMax and our salesman was awesome. The integrity of the service department is where we had issues. We ran into a TPS issue the day after we took the car home. We took it back a couple occasions. It would be reset for a day or 2 and we would wait to get scheduled again for the problem. Eventually, we were told that they couldn't get it fixed and we needed to take the Car to Volkswagen for the repair. We were told we needed to pay for this out of pocket. Needless to say we never took it due to the time it takes and being without a vehicle. A year has gone by and come to find out there isn't even sensors in the tires. When purchasing your vehicle make sure that service area does what is promised. How they could not have known there wasn't sensors is beyond me and frustrating to say the least. read more

Carmax has a superior business model over traditional dealerships. But nobody is perfect. I had an automated offer for a vehicle to sell them that I wanted to use for a few additional days after the offer expired. A well intending staff member told me the prices will only fluctuate small amounts from week to week if I were to let that offer expire and renew it a few days later. Imagine my surprise when I renew the offer a few days later (after making significant financial decisions based on the advice) and the offer is $2200 lower! By that point I was mostly stuck with the offer. Carmax is good for avoiding the sleazy feeling of having to negotiate for your purchase or sale. But in the future I will not be dealing with them and will be selling my vehicle on the market myself where you will certainly get a better return. read more

Quite simply the worst dealership I've ever gone to -- DO NOT DO BUSINESS WITH CARMAX!!! I reserved a car and got pre-approved for financing with CarMax. I showed up at 6:15 for a test drive. I drove the car, came back at around 6:45 and told them I'd buy it. We then sat down to finish everything. She asked me if I had my insurance policy declarations on me. Huh??? Who in the hell carries their insurance policy declarations on them? She might as well have asked me for the original copy of the Declaration of Independence. I had already shown her my insurance cards and my coverages. I was puzzled by this request for declarations -- which no dealership EVER, including CarMax -- had ever asked me for. Eventually she gave up, and the process moves forward. Then I wait. I ask them -- nicely several times -- to hurry this up. Instead, I keep waiting there until around 8 when they finally give me paperwork to sign. Signing the paperwork takes two minutes. Another 15 minutes goes by. The salesperson comes back to ask me if I have another state ID. "Huh? I gave you my driver's license -- several times. Who carries a state ID? Why would I need that?" She tells me that because I got pre-approved through CarMax before, I need a second form of ID. I laugh. "Ok, ma'am, I'm sorry, but that doesn't make any sense. I've bought several cars over the years and I have NEVER had to provide a second form of ID." They're not asking for a credit card or something like that; they literally want another ID or passport, which is ludicrous. I again tell her I need to go, and I start talking to the store manager, Stephon. It is at that point that I learn that Stephon is is a walking, barely talking collection of unsalted mashed potatoes made with dishwater. "This is our policy," Stephon says. I tell them that there is no way that this is their policy. "Yes, it is," Mr. Unsalted Mashed Potatoes Made with Dishwater says. "Really? Show me the policy," I say. We go back and forth for a while because Stephon acts like producing a policy is as difficult as producing the offspring of Superman and Dolly Parton. He eventually brings me the policy. It is at that point that I realize that Stephon is even dumber than I previously thought. Earlier, I thought that Stephon may only be one of the dumbest people on Earth. It turns out that Stephon is galactically stupid. He wasn't satisfied with being just Earth dumb. He had his eye toward the rest of the universe. "Stephon, have you read the piece of paper that you just gave me?" "Yes," he says, "and it says that you need to provide two forms of ID." "No, Stephon, it most certainly does NOT say that. You're telling me that every person who buys a car from CarMax has to provide two forms of ID?" He says yes. "Do you have any idea how ridiculous that is?" "That's our policy," he says. "Stephon, did you have reason to believe that my driver's license was fraudulent?" "No," he says. "That's good to know -- because the policy that you just showed me says that it is ONLY if you have good reason to believe that my driver's license is fraudulent do you need a second form of ID. If you don't believe it's fraudulent -- and you've already said it isn't -- then you don't need a second form of ID. So sell me the car and let me get out of here." "No, it's our policy." What ensues for the next several minutes is a back-and-forth between us -- and several additional CarMax employees, none of whom actually supports the stupidity that Stephon is saying but Stephon is THE manager -- with me being puzzled as to why Stephon is attempting to enforce a non-existent policy and Stephon repeatedly saying, like a broken toy, "This is our policy. This is our policy." I realize then that Stephon would make an excellent human fire alarm because the sound of his grating voice repeatedly talking about a policy that doesn't exist would be enough to evacuate a stadium full of Taylor Swift fans in 30 seconds flat in case of fire. No-haggle means no customer service! My experience was similar to another review on here. Weeks of waiting to be told that they did not have the right paperwork. Customer service reps blamed the DMV for a problem that they said they know occurs regularly but CarMax has not fixed. Since I was in a rental car, I inquired about some price reduction or gesture of goodwill/customer service to make up for their mistake, their complete lack of communication, and me being out money do to it. They replied by referencing their no-haggle guarantee, saying that they could not adjust the price or offer any concessions. The best they could do after talking to the GM was 2/3 of what I was out. Mind you, I had to ask multiple times and explain that I was only asking because I lost money due to their incompetence. They offered this and told me that the paperwork would be done in 3 days max. Four days later, they texted to tell me that it would be another 6-8 weeks! All vehicles they offered as alternatives were more expensive or lacked the features that I wanted. After this experience, I found another vehicle that I like...only to find it is on CarMax. We were trying to sell our old car in Boulder. We researched selling the old car business in Boulder. CarMax offered $3300 in initial quote when we did online. We checked out some reviews online, and the reviews said that CarMax will always cut the price when you show up onsite. So we were prepared that they gonna cut least $1000 from the initial offer, as the car does have a few small defects. But when we showed up onsite, they tested the car with test drive. And 30 minutes later, they said that yep, the car matches the answers we provided online, so $3300 it is. We were happy. Just so you know. I purchased a car online and had it transferred from Utah to this location. It took about 2 weeks which seemed long but it wasn't a issue for me. The price was good for a fully loaded Equinox premium. I couldn't find another vehicle this loaded for the price and mileage. When it came time to pick it up..I was about 30 minutes late for my appointment time. Well, they put it out in the lot and it took about 45 minutes for them to find it. They went over it very briefly and not very detailed. I noticed a crack in the windshield but it was small so I left it alone. I got home and checked the air filter, they had replaced it with a cheap filter but what they didn't do, was vacuum all the sand that was in the air box. I found broken glass from the rear window that must have been busted before I bought it still in the hatch. I then checked the spark plugs and they were all fried as the idle was rough. This is my second car from CarMax and both had issues so it seems common when buying from them. They do not thoroughly check the cars and only change the oil and air filter with the cheapest of parts. The brakes were worn down to point of noisey and after 2 weeks of driving it the check engine light came on. Now this is where the service dept comes in. It takes weeks to get an appointment. I had to sit there for 3 hours for them to look at it, as this place is no where near my house. I didn't have a issue with that as I just walked across the street for lunch and did remote office work. They returned the car cleaned and the service writer and mechanic where both friendly and informative. I had to bring it back when the parts came in. Another two weeks and another 3 hour waite. I asked if tthe engine light comes on again with the same code, when the warranty expires will it still be covered? She told me it would be. So before the warranty expired the light had came on twice. I personally reset it the first time hoping it was a glitch. The second time it came on, I called and again had to wait 2 weeks for a appt. The Waite time was about an hour and a half. The mechanic came out and told me it needs a part and that they didn't have so id have to come back yet again. This time the appt was about a week out. The Waite time was about 3 hours again, but I expected it and again had lunch and did work. Depending on your level of patience and understanding will determine your experience here. Despite my gripes I was impressed with the warranty and customer service in the service dept. My sales / pickup experience annoyed me more. Expect that your new / used car will have problems but rest assured they will fix it despite the inconvenience it will put you through. Just make sure you let them know as soon as you notice and before the warranty expires. read more

I told them the check engine light was on and it was burning oil so they scheduled me an appointment at a Goodyear... why? I don't know. They only did an oil change. When I told carmax my car wasn't passing emissions within the 90 day warranty they said there was nothing they could do. Was sold a Nissan Rogue 2013 with $35,000 miles for around $25,000 after my car accident. Not even 21/2 years later and 10,000 miles and my car is only worth 4,000 on Kelly bluebook. They saw me coming. I moved here from Chicago and had to travel for work so had a short time frame to work with to purchase a car. At the time I didn't know much about cars and thought it was a good deal and trusted CarMax. I thankfully purchased the warranty. A month after purchasing my car, the check engine light went on. I have had nothing but trouble with my vehicle. I was way over charged for what I purchased and now my car wont accelerate, stalls and has had other issues. I have taken it to so many body shops through CarMax's warranty with no resolutions. I barely drive my car. If you get the warranty beware, you might be sent to multiple body shops with little to no resolution, you have to pay a fee for the body shop, They don't pay for Ubers to and from the body shops (all out of pocket) The rental is not covered until they make a diagnosis. I have been without a car for months due to safety concerns. I'm exhausted. Save your money, find another dealership or with the price they charge for "lemons" just purchase a new car. You'll save yourself money, frustration and stress. read more

I had a great buying experience here. I found the friendliness of all of the staff was not overbearing, everyone was human and real with you. They offered more for my vehicle than a competitor down the road from them (save your time with EchoPark, they treated me like garbage.. really like I know better sheesh), every employee that I interacted with treated me really well and didn't try to deceive me in any way. I would also personally shout out the two sales people I worked with, Sebastian and Tyler, unfortunately Sebastian was on vacation when we pulled the trigger the next day. But everyone was so helpful and human, it was refreshing having not bought a car in ten years to go through this process with a really great team. Also, kudos to CarMax for allowing holds on the cars, as a consumer it makes me feel way better than the guys that will try to pressure you down the street and say that if you "don't make up your mind now the car will sell as soon as I leave." I was able to sleep on it and come back and leave with an amazing car that fits my budget. I dread car shopping as I'm one of those that keeps a car 10+ years until it's literally falling apart and then research the heck out of my next used (new to me!) car that I'll have for the next ten years. I was intrigued by two cars, the Volvo V60 Cross Country Wagon and the Honda Crosstour. I've seen the Crosstours around town and thought they looked really cool and have friends that drive the Volvo V60 and V90 wagons. He troubleshooted the pros and cons and we test drove both on the same day. Connor was easy to communicate with - phone, text and email. He lets you set your own pace and is not pushy in any way. I got the offer but the truck I ordered took 2 weeks to show up. In that time the offer expired twice and when I refreshed it, it dropped $2000 from the original offer. I called in and was told that they would honor the original offer. Well, truck came in, went to the store and they acted like I was crazy. They said that they did not control the market and would not honor it. Totally dismissed me and any of my concerns. Sales manager was completely dismissive and acted like he could not be bothered. I originally chose Carmax because I thought the process would be quick and easy. My car was stolen as I arrived to Denver, and I figured this would be the fastest way to fix the issue. Unfortunately, after ordering my car online, the car was sent without the title and 2 1/2 weeks later I still cannot buy my car. During this time, the agent assigned to my case quit, so I was reassigned to a different sales person. I went to test drive a different car since my ordered car did not arrive, and when I showed up the car's battery was dead. Worst experience ever! I purchased a Mercedes GLA from this location less than a month ago and learned that they sold me a car with a nail in the tire ! I asked them to take care of the low tire pressure notification during the test drive and was told that they would make sure it was good before we purchased the car; however, Carmax's idea of "good" was just filling the tire with air and leaving a nail in the sidewall! We could've been killed on the way back home to Colorado Springs because of their negligence and all the Sales Manager, Ian, could tell me is that Carmax won't cover the $350 tire! Beware! read more

NEVER.EVER. Buy a car from this Carmax. I bought a 2020 Toyota rav4 hybrid from this location in August's of this year right after moving in state. I have never had a car have so many issues in such a short amount of time it's ridiculous. Within the last 2 months, my cars battery has been completely dead when I've gone out to leave in the morning. The first time Carmax seemed very helpful and replaced the battery and we all moved on. These people are morons. Sent my son there to test drive a $25K car, and uploaded his license and insurance coverage, and paid $20 each way for an Uber. They would not let him test drive the car and we were prepared to buy it! He only has liability insurance because he doesn't own a car, and they refused to let him drive it because he doesn't carry comprehensive collision insurance. First, you can't get comprehensive coverage if you don't own a car to insure. Second, even if you own a car and carry comprehensive insurance, that only covers your own car...liability coverage covers damage to other cars. Took my car in to sell after getting a quote online. They looked at my car and kept their offer. They were very kind, quick, and smooth with the process. They were also very accommodating. This has been one those times I've questioned if I made the right decision purchasing here. I checked the oil a day after I left the lot, black. So I took it to get changed right away. Later inspecting the vehicle a little more in the engine bay, noticed the coolant is low, and some old residue on the bottom splash shield. I looked a little closer with my phone by by the oil pan and noticed some oil around the area. I called the CarMax, left a voicemail of my concern but never received a call back. I'm sure it's just old oil from s sloppy oil change but the fact that the oil wasn't changed before this was sold makes me worried what else was not checked. read more
