I want to give a compliment to the Manager Diego at the Echo Park Indoor Pool. Diego came to my rescue after getting locked out of my Tesla leaving my iPhone inside the car. He was able to help me call a family member to unlock my car for me . That's one of the Pros of a Tesla . It was near closing time but, Diego didn't leave me until I was able to get my car open. So my much appreciated thanks to Diego and sorry for making you stay late after closing to finish up your job. Corrina the Keyless Tesla lockout girl lol

I drive to this pool all the way from Burbank, despite the fact that I could walk to the pool near me! This pool is a hidden gem for me, it's cozy and old school. I go to enjoy my time in water and do my pro swimming practice and that is exactly what happens. Never have I been turned away (like they do in Burbank pools!), my equipment is in my availability, but there is also equipment available for free to use on deck. The water is fine, showers are fine, no problems ever! Stuff is different, some are wonderful kind and attentive people, I did encounter a rude one once, but I haven't seen him since though! So it's a pleasant experience overall. And I am a pro swimmer and coach, so I've been in just about every swimming pool in LA. And this is my spot! And I'm not surprised I see other pro swimmers here regularly! It's a perfect place! There is one thing I would say. The payment. Why oh why are pools in LA still not equipped with the BASIC system of non-cash payment ??! I mean, I know the answer sadly, but it makes me so so so upset that swimming is so unprofitable to the government that they can't even bother to switch the systems to electronic for a decade by now!!? I'm not even talking about renovations of pools, not even dreaming about ones, I'm sure swimming pools will stay exactly same funding wise all the way until they collapse on our heads. I've already gone to meet up with some politicians about the desperate state swimming in LA is, but I'm sure I was ignored. I didn't bring loads of money with me to a meeting, so... Maybe one day.

Dear Echo Park Pool, You are the closest in the city to my house so I try over and over again to visit you but man, do you frustrate me beyond belief. Exasperated is a good word. You clearly post signs and print brochures with your swim times, but when I get there at 0:01 after the first hour, it is already a packed house and I am baffled how. Is there some secret I don't know about? I don't mind the kids, I mean, how can I after growing up with a public pool experience all through my childhood. And you clearly keep them in the roped off shallow areas. But I battle it out for lap lanes with dozens and dozens of people, most of them too good to share a lane with. And then you expect me to share a lane with two, three or four (gasp!) people who want to swim in a loop and then, since I can't swim that strongly yet, I have to bail. So I just paid $2 (with my library card) to get bumped out a lane. AGAIN. At least your change rooms are spacious and easy to deal with. Your showers are plenty and the toilets nice and always clean. The ladies who work the bag claim are always kind and starting to get to know my face, which is always pleasant. But the folks who work here otherwise are pretty useless. They can't answer questions, some don't speak English very well, and they tell one thing on the phone than they do in person and it makes me angry. On more occasions than I would like to admit, I have dealt with idiot LA84 class instructors who ask me to leave a lane for their class and walk away from their students while they disrupt everyone in the lanes surrounding them. I have even had one of your students jump over me into my lane and hit my legs while I was lap swimming. I could have killed him. I complain but the teenagers behind the glass have eyes that say, "I don't care, it's public." Your pool is rad, looks cool from the outside, is indoor so I can enjoy it all year, and is easy to get to from my house. But you have so many flaws you make me never want to come back after every visit. I guess my memory is easily erased after a few days, because I do come back. It's a rough cycle with you, but I try to find patience with you. I will continue to pray for your soul and hope you get better to deal with someday. Signed, Siobhan D.

I've been here only during lap swim hours. Parking: None, if you come when it's crowded. There is a small parking lot but it holds less than 20 cars, so be prepared to look for parking in the neighborhood. And always beware of parking signs and times, because LA loves to ticket. Pool: Let the good times roll! This pool is large and has over ten swim lanes. The water is bleachy, but I'm never ashamed to admit that there's something about that I like. Either it's the idea that there's less junk in the water to get me sick or just some pool memories from childhood. (Or a good load of laundry. I don't know.). The area around the pool is clean, too. The lane ropes/lines are taught so you don't have them drifting into you as you swim. The staff are helpful and answer any questions you have. Locker Room: Well, you can read the other reviews with the same opinion. Actually, no lockers. Bare concrete essentials. Showers have stupid low-flow spritzers and dumb buttons that turn the water on for about 1-1/2 seconds. You have to keep pressing for more water!! Try that with shampoo in your face or just try rinsing your back. Stupid conservation!! No modesty here. There are NO changing stalls. Cost: $3 per swim. Lap swim passes are available for a slight discount.

You are given a ticket and then it is collected by the changing room attendant (you enter the pool via the changing rooms). There are no lockers, but the attendant can store your bag while you swim. Plenty of shower and toilet stalls, pretty clean, basic facilities. Most of the pool lanes were being used for youth water polo, and there was one lap swimming lane set up. The 3 ft area on either side of the deeper parts of the pool (the middle of the pool gets to 11 ft) were open swim so I just stayed close to the lap swim lane and had no trouble getting my workout in. I was the only one left doing laps after 630pm. I will be back, I appreciate not having to swim around other people and/or share a lane, we will see if that changes when summer comes around.

To my dismay, the pools I've visited within LA County (not all but quite a bit) dont offer diving lessons for adults. For the most part it's something like 17 and younger. Thanks to a Google search, I found this facility. Rose Bowl Aquatic Center. Which does have an adult lesson option. I chose the Adult Learn To Dive, 1 day option. You know, test the waters before going all in with monthly classes. See how it all works out kind of thing. Absolutely fantastic! Class was from 12:30-2:00 and it was totally worth it. Coach Jean Luc, excellent instructor! Clear, easy to understand instruction and enlightening feedback on each and every dive. When I made a mistake he was able to point out exactly what happened and how to easily correct it. His younger assistant Issac was totally awesome and helpful as well. Special thanks also to those who participated in the class. Everyone was very welcoming, upbeat, and encouraging. And most of them we're regulars from what I gathered. Also I think it's worth mentioning for those who may be in a similar situation as myself. I am currently overweight. Which I was quite self conscious about when signing up. And with diving, you're kind of on display for a short amount of time till you take that plunge. But thankfully as I mentioned, everyone was absolutely welcoming and did not make me feel judged at all.

However, as lap swimmer, I really think there are a lot of things they can improve to create a better experience for lap swimmers to determine when lanes are open. They have pretty poor communication, despite online tools for determining when lanes are open. First they post a link to a google calendar for each pool and the schedule. The problem is the way the schedule is laid out is confusing. For example they will not bracket the schedule changes for the pool, by that I mean they will tell you when a change starts, but not always when it ends. Or they communicate for what his going on for the other lanes during certain times. 9am Diving - Lanes 14-20 9:30 Lap Swim - Lanes 6-9 There's 5 lanes completely unaccounted for. Or sometimes they will post times like this and the lanes listed conflict with on another for example it shows below that lane 9 ends at two different times. Laps are listed, twice instead of one. 8 - 9:30 am Lap Swim - Lanes 11-20 8 - 9am Lap Swim - Lanes 6-9 8:55am - 2:05pm Swim Lessons - Lanes 1-9 They list the lanes open, but they don't actually label the lanes at the pool, so I'm not sure why. It feels like this is an internal calendar not a consumer facing one. They should just make this simple. Show the start and end times of a changeover and list the available changes like 8AM-9AM - 13 lap lanes (list the lanes), 9 Swim lesson lanes (list the lanes) 9AM - 2PM - 3 lap lanes (list the lanes), 9 Swim lesson lanes (list the lanes) The way they layout the information is extremely confusing, complicated and you have to do a lot of math to figure out what's available, when it can be much clearer, simpler and easier to communicate. They should really lay this out visually like a Google calendar broken down in color coded blocks of time or in columns broken down by categories for Lessons, Lap Swim, Diving, Classes... That way you can just turn off what isn't relevant to you and see what's available quickly. Sometimes change overs don't occur at the listed time and you're stuck wondering if the calendar is wrong. Then they have a camera feed online so you can see the pool live. Great idea, but completely useless in practice. It's clear the camera is old, so the resolution is poor. It's also placed at the short end of the pool near the front. so you can't actually see any of the lap lanes in the distance with any clarity, so you have to zoom in to see if anyone is the lanes but you can't. The way the site is implemented is the feed auto switches between the two camera (the one for the other pool) before you can make anything out and if you can zoom it it's too hard to make anything out. So it serves no purpose. It's ridiculous. Upgrade the camera. Put them on both ends, or at least move it to the long end so you can see clearly if the lanes are full. And let the user control what they see. They also have this cone system they've implemented to let people know when a lane is open for swimming, lessons or something else at the time of the change over. But the problem is the key for what the cones mean, is at the front of the building. Why not just print what the cones mean directly not the cone itself. So you don't have to walk back and read it? The showers constantly have broken soap dispensers and shower heads. And even though they break the time, the keep replacing everything with the same shower heads and soap dispensers. I get that this can be a cost but they don't have that many showers and these days there are so many options I can not image it's that hard to find something both quality and budget friendly to avoid this problem. Finally their communication of closures can be a lot better. I buy a monthly pass, and swim often. There have been many times when the facility was closed with a weeks notice, sometimes for an entire week. If you're going to do that you need to let people know in advance so they don't waste money on membership they can't use a quarter of. Or the pool has been closed for 'contamination.' They do not specify what that means, even when asked. That is crazy. I get that some of these things might cost money. But some of them cost nothing at all. They are just simple changes that can be made tomorrow if there was more thoughtfulness and care put into the experience of the user. It feels like this place is trapped in time and put on auto pilot. Every single solution doesn't need to be the cheapest lowest effort solution all the time. You can create a better experience.

That itself gives this historic structure a miraculous feel because it survived desegregation in an apartheid state that still tries to hide/deny its ugly white supremacism. Nonetheless, the racist, capitalist model of diminishing public infrastructure because they provide benefit to non-whites equally, prevails. The changing rooms are a shambles. Ironically, in many poorer nations where I have used municipal pools, they have smarter, more updated locker rooms. (This reveals the character of what passes for national culture.) Enough now with the disparagement and let's pivot to this historic pool. The length is perhaps Olympic size but the deep end of the pool is in the middle. It's cordoned off into three sections across, allowing a lap swimmer to benefit from the deepest central third, although it is not a full 25 yards across. The water is much clearer than in Glassell Park and perhaps it's because it is not as heavily used? I found there's a solid jet stream of pumped water underneath leading to a kind of "rip tide" effect in the pool. You have to work harder to get across because of the undercurrent. It's quite enjoyable. The lack of trees around this pool makes the sun feel harsh, but the nearby Gold line train gives it a feeling of being part of a vibrant metro region. As well I was smelling street tacos from a nearby truck, very aromatic I was delighted to find this pool during one of the extended brutal heat waves of triple digit temperatures that are commonplace now thanks to climate change. However, consistent with the history of white colonizers being callous about the welfare of non-white citizens, and overriding the unique realities of western geography in favor of conformity with norms from the northeast, the City of LA Parks and Recreation department feels the need to shut down pools like this one during LA's *hottest months* of September and October. In other words, yes, the City of LA would rather people of this area suffer the heat than keep this pool open to allow for some respite for vulnerable human bodies. LA's hottest months are always September and October. City of LA Parks and Recreation: We don't care. Finally, note there is limited parking in a lot which exits into a mega-dip in the street side curb that will crack most sedans' chassis... Call 818-804-7570 about hours.

But it now caters to a younger crowd and has substantial co-working space. I've certain found more members using the facilities but also discovered quite a bit of new programmings like the Pilates classes, mahjong club, live jazz performances and movie nights. I was not really sure about the change at the beginning but I am now fully embracing the new LAAC. Many of the staff and members have been here for a long time and it is nice to be greeted by familiar faces when coming to the club. The restaurants are pretty decent. Love to top my salad with a nice piece of salmon after workout at the Famous Players or have a tasty glass of scotch while enjoying the live jazz performance at the Invention. The sports bar Duke's has great happy hours and fun monthly evening karaoke or chess club meetings. The only thing I complain about is the need for shock absorbance and insulation of the noise or moving the weight station. The northwest corner of the Famous Players near Olive Street shakes every time the weightlifters drop their weights, which is very annoying and distracting for the diners. Feel like the ceiling or floor is going to drop out. No joke. For now, I would sit as far away from the northwest corner as I possibly can. But hope the club would look into it. I have been trying to sign up for the monthly wine tasting but they are always full. Maybe consider having the event more frequently or scale up? Regardless, I am still exploring all the new offerings at the club and really pleased with the Pilates classes and the live music performances. Although I am apprehensive when I first see the co-working space and the influx of new members, I now appreciate the additional events and classes that come with the new members and hope the club continues to do well and do better as I am here to stay.

As usual, water in the room costs money, and there are a few other products with hidden price tags in the room, too. Surprisingly, toothbrush and toothpaste was not provided. The water for showering also doesn't get too hot. In terms of the athletic space, the machines were very easy to access. There was never a wait even on weekend afternoons. The lap pool was my favorite part - clean and calm. There was some miscommunication between the lobby and the store, as one said there is no reservation system but there in fact was. But even when told all the lanes were fully reserved, more than half weren't in use. Parking is a bit of a hassle; for non-members it's definitely not worth it. At the time of visit, the parking machine wasn't working. There are also sperate elevators for parking vs the athletic club / hotel area which was a little confusing. The stair numbers also didn't coordinate the best with actual level.

That is not how a public pool should operate. - Staff do not enforce or educate swimmers on basic lap-swimming etiquette (sharing lanes, splitting or circle swimming). Many swimmers act territorial and refuse to share lanes, and no one corrects them. - The atmosphere is often unpleasant and at times unsafe. I was harassed by another swimmer with clear behavioral issues, and staff did nothing. - The facilities themselves are poorly maintained -- dirty, with visible cockroaches and no proper changing rooms. Since switching to LACES Pool, the difference has been night and day. The staff there are professional and respectful, the facilities are clean and well maintained, and there's a proper locker room for swimmers. Sadly, Eleanor Pool does not meet even the most basic standards I'd expect from a public pool. I won't be returning.
