I originally went to this location for the first time, in December 2020 to have my roots highlighted. I was advised to wait a couple of months for my roots to grow out further before doing any root highlights, and this was noted on my file. This was good and sensible advice from the very pleasant Kaydian (if I recall her name correctly). I was rebooked for March 4, 2021 with another stylist, who upon my arrival said she was uncomfortable doing the work because she said my hair was severely damaged. She recommended hair treatments and a hair cut, and to re-book in the future. I purchased the recommended Aveda hair products from their salon, and used them for months. Aveda makes great products that I have been using for years. I made another appointment to have my roots highlighted on July 7, 2021. I arrived to be told by Thomas that he couldn't work on my hair because it was very damaged. This is my third time in their Salon since moving to Kingston. All this information was on my file at this Salon, and yet on two subsequent occasions the stylists were uncomfortable working with my hair. I tried to politely explain that all this time-wasting could have been avoided had they merely given me a simple call to discuss the condition of my hair and their reluctance to work on it, before they confirmed a third appointment. By this time, three people (Thomas, the stylist from March, and then also James -- perhaps the owner?), kept telling me repeatedly that my hair was damaged. Since the beginning of the conversation, I kept saying that I completely understood the issue, that they believe my hair is too damaged to work on. So, I tried to give some friendly advice that next time, they should tell customers that they only work on healthy highlighted hair, thereby saving everyone's time and effort. James interrupted me and said to me that there won't be a next time. I find that to be a very arrogant and rude statement to make to a customer, making me feel I wasn't welcome back -- (even though I wasn't thinking of returning after these circumstances). So why did I keep returning? Because I took their advice to re-book after waiting, and then doing their suggested treatments I am very disappointed with my overall experience at this Salon, considering the excellent years of experience that they describe on their website. I believe that we all should be treated with equality and respect, regardless of race, gender, social status, etc. Be humble and helpful. "Being humble means recognizing that we are not on earth to see how important we can become, but to see how much difference we can make in the lives of others" -- Gordon B. Hinkley

It turned out that my hair had build up from previous colours, this my hairdresser figured out, once I had the treatment to correct this I was amazed at how soft my hair felt, it felt like my hair again, something I hadn't experienced for years! And the colour could now take to my hair and not go a weird colour for once. A great salon, relaxing friendly atmosphere. Great staff and owner. Thank you Heather!

I spent months growing out the most of the blond colouring I had been doing for many years. I was wanted to transition to more grey with some lowlights. Brought pictures of the cut and colour I wanted. When all was done I wasn't completely happy with cut or the lowlights being distributed properly, but decided to live with it for awhile so at next appointment I could tell the same senior stylist exactly what I wanted. So I paid and booked next appointment. When I went back I pointed out what I wanted done both cut and colour. She did not take this well and was taking it personally. I was quite taken aback. I expected a much more professional attitude. Her exact words were "I don't think I can help you because you obviously didn't like what I did" My question to her was, "so are you telling me you refuse to make the changes I have asked for, even though I am willing to pay for it? " she again refused. Very very unprofessional. After that I was done. The worst part was she was The Owner.

I like the smaller atmosphere that's here, rather than some of the other salons downtown that have expanded to larger and less personal vibes over time. I also love the personalized service here. I guess what I'm saying is that the folks at Luce really do build a relationship with their clients, and with my stylist Erica, I always feel like we're just picking up the conversation from where we left off the last time I was in. They also have a killer referral and frequent customer program. If you refer someone to your stylist, they'll save $20 on the first cut and you'll save $20 on your next cut. And, as a regular, every 5th cut is free! There are a good range of products for sale here, but there is never pressure to purchase, which I always appreciate. So if you decide to check them out, you should probably ask for Erica, and tell her I sent you!

In the past, I have had some atrocious updo's (we are talking cry-your-eyes-out-and-wash-it-all-out-when-you-get-home updo's), so I was pretty nervous to say the least. My stylist, Allister, was very friendly and quickly put me at ease. I showed him some pictures of the side-pony style that I had in mind and he completely exceeded my expectations. The style that he created was far more intricate and beautiful than I ever could have ever imagined and looked great from all angles! What's even better is that it lasted all day long. It still looked perfect after hours on the dance floor that evening. I really wish that he lived in Toronto as Kingston is an awfully long way to go for a good stylist! I am not sure of the names of the other stylists who worked on the wedding party, but everyone's hair looked wonderful! Highly recommend this salon!
