I'm not normally one to write negative reviews. As a business owner myself I know how detrimental they can be to a company, but I felt like my experience needed to be shared with others who were considering staying here.
We went to Echo Canyon Campground in the Royal Gorge Cabins for a family reunion. We stayed in the "glamping tents". The tents were decently sized with comfortable queen beds and cute little patios with firepits outside each one. The campground is literally right next to a busy highway and helicopter pad, which makes sleep impossible. Not to mention there is zero privacy from any other tent in the area.
During our stay a hail storm blew in with a severe storm warning of "quarter sized hail likely to do moderate damage to cars and property". There was absolutely nowhere to park our cars to protect them from the hail and ice. Some family members in the other cabins had taken towels and their own blankets to cover their cars. We didn't have our own blankets, so after reading the tags on our duvets that stated they were machine washable we made the choice to throw both of them over our Tesla. I was very aware that we would probably be paying to replace the duvets, but my thought process was I would rather pay around $500 for new blankets than pay the thousands of dollars in hail damage repair on an $80,000 car.
I planned to wash and dry the duvets (according to recommended washing instructions) in the guest provided laundromat then explain the situation to the front desk. If upon their inspection they wanted the duvets professionally cleaned or replaced of course I would pay to do so. However, I never got the chance to explain my choice because immediately after the hail stopped our tent door was slid open (while my husband was in the middle of changing out of wet clothes!) and a man stood there yelling at us "is that your car?! Did you actually remove the bedding from the beds?! What the F*CK were you thinking?! I'm the owner my name is Andy Neinas and how dare you do that?!!" When he finally stopped swearing and yelling (in front of my 9 year old, 5 year old, and 2 year old children nonetheless) I calmly told him that yes, we had taken the bedding from the tent to place over the car and I completely understood why he was upset, and then I tried to explain my reasoning behind the split second decision but Mr. Neinas never gave me a chance to finish because he turned around and stormed out the door. He returned immediately followed by a man and a woman (whom I assumed to be his head maid, Amanda, and maintenance manager, Joe) where he continued to berate us and talk about how he had taken pictures and he would be contacting his lawyer. He would also periodically turn to Amada and Joe and say things like "can you believe this?!" and "how f*cking stupid." (still in earshot of my children) while they all stood in the doorway shaking their heads disapprovingly at us.
Please note at no point had I ever refused to pay for any damages. IN FACT, in trying to explain things I had said how before even taking the blankets off the bed I had every intention of paying to replace them. Mr. Neinas then told us we would be paying "full retail value for everything we ruined and the duvet covers now belonged to us." As he left he told Amada to leave them on the car because they were ours now. Mr. Neinas then came back one more time to tell us we most likely wouldn't have blankets for the night because laundry day was tomorrow. I planned to give them time to cool off before attempting to apologize again and clarify things. Since it was clear we'd be paying for the bedding I decided to continue with my original plan of washing and drying them so that way we would have blankets for the night.
One of the washing machines took money but didn't actually start so I used the other washer and left. A few other members in our group went to the front office to let them know one of their washing machines was broken and eating money. Whilst that was happening Amanda (or Joe) took the duvet cover from the washing machine. Amanda then told us we needed to pay for them, but then refused to show us where it was damaged or return it to us. She also insisted we pay for some towels that were "ruined" by the rain and hail (who knew towels were ruined by getting wet? Ha.). As stated previously, I had absolutely no problem paying for the damaged property, my problem was with the fact that she wanted us to "pay full retail value ...
