"Naturalism" (aka nudism) was one of the founders aims & it's common to see folks not only speaking, but hiking up the trails au natural. And the trails are amazing, as are the views, the springs, the Astronomy pad, the very kind staff, & the wildlife viewing. Along with the keeping it natural vibe, is the dedication to keeping it affordable & family friendly. Cabins & bunk house with shared no frills bathrooms & showers, a well equipped camper kitchen & VERY affordable rates are all part of this effort. Personally, I appreciate the rules & the emphasis on everyone being responsible for making this a comfortable, safe & welcome space for all. Anytime I'm in the neighborhood, I'll be back. We couldn't even see another spot from ours! ++ There's access to several hikes and Mt. Princeton Hot Springs is right up the road. CONs: -- While there are a lot of trees, there's isn't much shade. -- Campsites near the creek were pretty rocky and small. Not the best for a large group. Brown's Creek is def an area that we'll keep in mind for future camping trips and hiking adventures! Love that camping life! **Pro Tip: If you're planning on heading up over a holiday weekend make sure you get there early. We went up the Thursday before Memorial Day weekend and the sites were already pretty picked over.

Incuded was shampoo, conditioner, soap, dish soap, coffee, dish rags, kitchen towels, bath towels, wash rags and a swamp cooler for air conditioning. It even had a crock pot as well as your basic pots and pans. Full sized refrigerator with freezer. Stove and oven. The motel rooms were about the same, less the separate bedrooms, kitchen and living space. It also has an outdoor pool and a commons area. The owners, Aaron and Brenda, couldn't have been any nicer or more accommodating. It is right off the highway, easy to find. A stream runs through the back of the property offering a scenic view. Would definitely stay there again.

The visitor center was well maintained, with clean restrooms, an informative museum, and had a short film highlighting the dune ecosystem. There is also a large gift shop, though prices were on the higher side. While I would not consider it a destination on its own, it is absolutely worth a stop if you're traveling through this part of the state. Note: No vehicles of any type are allowed on the dunes.

It's a bit of a smaller park in terms of trails and not going to be like RMNP so make sure you know what you're getting into. We planned our trip for May when the creek is usually flowing and the dunes are optimal for sledding. Unfortunately for us we hit a patch of bad weather and it was drizzling our whole day spent here. Additionally the park is experiencing a dry spell and the creek that is usually flowing in May was still dry. C'est la vie! We still had a blast climbing the dunes, letting the kids play in the sand, and taking in the views. To be honest the views are the best part - it's incredible to see these dunes and learn more about the history of the landscape in this region of Colorado. We didn't get to sled as the conditions were not ideal for it but we plan on someday returning and doing the full experience. If you're on the fence about coming here it's well worth a visit!

Pretty sure the fish took a vacation. Or maybe they just hate us. Getting to the other side of the reservoir felt like a side quest in an off-brand video game -- bumpy roads, no idea how far we were actually going, but somehow it took forever. Definitely earned our snacks that day. We were off-grid RVing and used solar -- plenty of sunshine (yay Colorado!), and the panels worked great. Bathrooms were drop toilets (two in our loop), surprisingly clean for what they are -- rustic but not revolting. We drove to the shower house and THANK GOODNESS we had cash because it was $1 for 4 minutes, and you bet we were in there with a full stack of quarters like it was 1995 at the arcade. Clean showers. Flush toilets. Glorious. Some quirks: - Our fire ring looked like it hosted a frat party the night before. Lots of ash, trash, and mystery items. - Patrol truck drove by once at 8:30pm and then vanished into the night like a park ranger ninja. - Two entire families camped in the parking lot overnight. With kids. Just chilling. Not in sites. Just... existing there. We're heading back soon but staying on the marina side, because we enjoy actual campsites and the illusion of order. ‍ Overall: beautiful location, lots of sun, potential for fish (maybe), and absolutely bring quarters if you enjoy hygiene.

Rustic? That's a stretch... but I loved it anyway…read more Had a great time at Dakota Hot Springs, but when they say "rustic," that might be giving it a little too much credit. Think more "DIY charm with deferred maintenance." Only one of the two showers in the men's bathroom worked, and the outdoor shower looked like it had retired early. The shade cloth overhead was thin, ripped, and flapping in the wind like it was waving a white flag. That said, the water itself? Perfect. The big pool stayed at a great temp, and if you wander into the "lobster pot," prepare to boil yourself like you're on the menu--it's hot hot. Lots of room to spread out and catch sun, which was a big plus. Now, the real warning: dusk. When the sun dips, the mosquitoes come out like they've been fasting for weeks. I heard it's thanks to the stagnant dump water nearby, and they make sure you know they're there. Pro tip: bring bug spray or plan your exit before happy hour for the skeeters. All in all--quirks, flapping tarps, and dive-bombing mosquitoes included--I'll definitely be back. Just don't come expecting "spa chic." This is a hot springs with character (and a sense of humor).

Couple of issues -road noise M-F from 7:00-4:00 as large trucks haul gravel from the quarry to town. The 2 lane road runs on the whole side of the resort. AND, we reached out to the advertised Colorado RV services to get some work done on our RV. They came by 2 times to meet with us but never gave us an estimate or touched base to schedule the work. We followed up numerous times. Our initial conversation was 7 weeks prior to our scheduled departure. This left a very bad taste in our mouths. Very bad customer service and follow up. The hike is well worth it. As I approached the falls, the sound was just surreal as I could hear the water flowing below the frozen ice from the falls. There is also a beautiful blue glow from the frozen falls. A must see if you are near the Great Sand Dunes National Park.
