There is also a trail with marked numbers and a trail map to guide you. I wasn't able to explore the trail because the snow blocked the path. The area is about 3 miles away from Cottonwood Lake (take the left road when you see the split to get to the lake rather than Spring Canyon).

I saw my first columbine on this hike, which made it extra special. The treelike portion has beautiful Mountain View's peaking out through the forest and once you're above tree line, you have an unobstructed view of beautiful Huron and surrounding peaks. The hike itself is very easy! Less than 7 miles and only a few thousand elevation. The road up is a little rough. I thought I parked at the 2WD lot, but my friend saw my stats and said I actually made it through the 4WD portion and just didn't park all the way at the trailhead. If you have a 4WD it's totally doable, only a couple of sketchy spots. We needed up just walking about 1.5 miles along the road since we didn't know what we were doing. 10/10 14er

It had around 442 feet of elevation gain. When we visited, the trail was snow packed. It had amazing views of Mount Antero and Mount Princeton. 2 local 14ers. It had me dreaming about summer and my trip out to the area to climb/summit some 14ers later this year. Some folks were attempting to do some x country skiing but not sure how well it was working out for them. This area is really lovely and this hike should be accessible for most.

When I made the reservation in July, I spoke to a very pleasant person who lives in Texas. Black…read moreBear RV is now owned by a company in Texas and staff is not on-site. Via e-mail, we were asked for info about our rig, and sent a link to complete a waiver. The e-mail stated a noon check-in time and had no further info about the check-in process. We provided the rig info and signed the waiver. The day before arriving in August, we were sent numerous text messages about a form, and the need to provide info about our rig. The text messages had check-in as Noon in one sentence, and check-in as 3:30 in another sentence. We called, got a nice person who spoke limited English. We were able to determine that they had received the form, but that they needed our rig information. Provided that again. She told us our site #'s, and said we would get a text with codes and check-in information. On the day of arrival, we got a text with the WIFI password and no further information. When we arrived, we could not find an office or staff. They Info on yelp states that there is a gift shop and boutique on site. That must have been when it was still owned by "Pamela". We finally saw a small sign with the instructions to just go to our site. About 1/2 hour after we arrived, a pleasant person stopped by with her infant to let us know she was the on-site manager, and to give us the code for the dumpster. She provided no further information or assistance. Sites 1-6 are COMPLETELY different than the website photos and the reviews, which were written a few years back when someone named Pamela owned and ran the property. These sites are VERY narrow. It took our friend multiple manipulations to pull in with his 5th wheel. These sites have no room for chairs or tables to sit outside. There was an old picnic table perched on the slope between sites 4 and 5. Significant literal trash at sites 1-4. A dead bird, dead vegetation, sewage pipes without caps, intense sewage smell. Very low water pressure. Unkempt weeds and sticker burr plants at our site, those next to us, and most of the places to walk the dogs. Buildings and grounds were trashy, run-down, dirty. We were traveling through for one night. We would strongly discourage others from staying here.

Our Alpine Tunnel Trail adventure with Silver Plume Rentals was unforgettable, especially for…read moreanyone who is a huge history nerd like myself. Riding through the mountains and seeing the remains of the old railroad camp and Alpine Tunnel brought the history of the area to life in a way you simply can't get from just reading about it. I was especially fascinated by the story of the workers who built the tunnel under such brutal conditions and the sacrifices made to create this incredible piece of Colorado's railroad history. Seeing the remnants of the settlement and imagining what life must have been like here in the 1880s was truly incredible. We had the place to ourselves for most of the time we were at the settlement which made it a bit spooky, really giving it a ghost town vibe. Silver Plume Rentals gave us an amazing way to experience Colorado's history while exploring some absolutely stunning mountain terrain. The ATV/UTVs are top of the line, brand new and have all the bells and whistles. Cory and his team are highly knowledgeable, willing to give recommendations, and are great people to work with. This was our second trip with them and I wouldn't hesitate with work with them again! If you love history, adventure, and getting off the beaten path, I highly recommend this experience! Pro tip: have a burger and fries at the Silver Plume General Store after your trip. Delicious and the perfect way to end a day of adventuring!
