And several mornings there was no toilet paper in the bathroom, also not sure why you would want to carpet a campground bathroom, but there is carpet . Highway 50 runs right next to the campground so you hear traffic, the river is beautiful and clean. I would seek another campground in the area before I stayed at Sweetwater again

From the first minute we called Pamela- we were an absolute wreck, confused, my husband and me were both frantic. We booked super last minute too. She was super patient, and despite being the only one handling reservations there, called me back within the hour and managed to get us straightened out and set us up for a week, we payed in advance even though we are from Missouri. Can't tell you how much stress it took off us, we were able to enjoy our roadtrip in peace knowing that when we got to Colorado we didn't have to worry about where we were sleeping, she kept us very up to date throughout the whole thing and all our texts were always answered within the hour. Now the place itself- is super cute and cozy, we got the romantic room 7, and it has a big bed, and a little fire place, was perfect. Now this might be controversial where i'm from but i'm a medical marijuana user and depend on it to function wanted to go on my honeymoon not worrying about it, this place does not allow smoking in rooms but it was nice that way! Because the rooms smell clean and are more comfortable, but at the same time, they have smoking areas that are very nice, and the veiw is amazing and we wanted to be outside anyways! They have numerous firepits /firewood too/, couches, tables, cushioned chairs, and a hammock. There was a little windchime outside our door that you would hear in the morning. This place is so charming and has a little magic in it, made our honeymoon so special. I don't know what happened to a previous commenter but I implore you to just talk with Pamela about any misunderstandings, she is one of the sweetest ladies i've ever met and I can't imagine there being a mean bone in her body. We stayed in the rock room, and we loved how private it felt. We were grateful the west bathroom was open this time of year, but didn't mind the walk to the main bathhouse. Our dog came with us, and he felt right at home with his provided bed, and he loved the onsite nature trail! One pro tip is to check in down the road when you still have service. We got to the cabin and couldn't sign in to the Wi-Fi to check in because we didn't have the password or the code to get into the cabin. We had to drive down the road to check in and then come back. It only took a few minutes, but it would have been helpful to know we might not have had cell service up there. We appreciated all the recommendations they provided on places to eat and explore in Salida. We can't wait to come back!

We stayed at the Glass Deck House, South Peak View. It had an amazing view of the mountains, the pavilion, and some of the property. If you stay at the South or North Glass Deck House, make sure that you're ready to walk up & down the steep path. It's a bit steep to walk to the toilet close to where the staff building is or down the way to the main bath house, which has multiple bathrooms. The main bathhouse at the bottom of the hill also has a hot tub and a cold plunge. There is also a section where you can purchase snacks and drinks. If you prefer to have a bathroom in your cabin, there are also plenty of options that have it so I make sure to book early. I'm looking forward to coming back with more people so I can fully experience the amenities on the property. There is an Ampitheater and also a nature walk path that we didn't get to do so we'll definitely be back to experience these as well. The owners have really built something special here. Truly enjoyed our time here and the sunrise and sunset were gorgeous.

This is the closest park service campground to Salida which makes it super sweet!…read more I reserved site 21 online, which was like $28/night. However, if you just show up, other sites that are available are only $18/night. I wish I would have waited to reserve, but at least you can drive here and know by reserving early that you have a place to sleep! You also need to pay a daily state park fee, unless you have a yearly pass. (this is in addition to the campground fee) Our site was right on the river, and even though this campground is right off the main road into town or into Big Horn Sheep Canyon, when the sun sets, you will not really hear the cars and trucks going by due to the sounds of the river. It was very high when we visited. At night, depending on your site, and if you are in a tent or camper, you may see a bright light shining from a business across the street. Not to worry, as you will still be able to see a night sky of amazingly beautiful stars! It was cool to be hanging out after a long day and see people rafting down the river. The sites are pretty open, and there are only a few with shade. However, there is plenty of parking, and most people were pretty respectful. There are people camping out on the other side of the river, which was a little sketchy and strange. They didn't do anything weird when we were there, but it was a little uncomfortable. However, since I had my dog, and there were other campers nearby, I felt safe. The one recommendation I have is that they use sand or dirt trucked in for their tent pad areas. They currently have gravel! Gravel is useless with a tent, as my tent stakes could not find secure footing in the ground. I then tried to pitch the tent next to the tent pad area in the dirt, and the dirt was rock solid! I then realized why there were so many large stones in the tent pad area. I used these to help my tent stay grounded and upright for the two days and nights we were there. (When we were there, there was a truck coming into the campground area in the morning and dropping off dirt in a big gully. ) The port-a-pots were the cleanest I have ever seen!

The tent pad barely fit our 6 person tent, so keep that in mind if you're camping with family or friends. When the wind blows in from the west, you'll get to enjoy the sickly sweet smell of pit potties. But the biggest problem was the wind. I suspect it's not always this windy, but it was like trying to camp in a wind tunnel. And getting a fire started was a challenge which took three adults blocking the wind just to get it started. Also, we were very concerned about how close the burn pit was to the local plants. There are already several wildfires blazing in CO as I write this, and we didn't want to be the cause of another. This meant we had to extra diligent in watching our fire. A situation that was helped by the fact that the grill grate would lay right on top of the foliage if you let go of it. So if you are just needing a place to sleep, this will work. But if you want a pleasant camping experience, I recommend you look at Hecla Junction Campground or O'Haver Lake Campground

We LOVE Cutty's. My friends and I joke that it's kind of like the summer camp from Dirty Dancing,…read morejust missing Patrick Swayze. They have cabins, RV spots, and tent spots, so they're perfect for whatever type of camping you're looking to do. For amenities, they have indoor and outdoor pools, mini golf, a small playground, an arcade, laundry room, weekend meals, weekend outdoor movies, a rec center, tennis and basketball courts, shuttleboard, and a general store. They're pretty close to Salida as well, so you can go spend a day by the river and grab some pizza and ice cream (see my other reviews for hints). Cutty's cabins are amazing, I highly recommend them. They're a little pricey, but they have bathrooms and kitchens in them, plus awesome little back decks that overlook the creek. Weekends at Cutty's are amazing. Breakfast and dinner at Joe's make for easy packing, and movies with popcorn and candy sold nearby at night are a great way to end the day. My kids' favorite is to go mini-golfing and then grab some ice cream from the general store afterward. It's a summer tradition for us!
