Piedmont Ave. has been losing businesses at an alarming rate so I was really happy to see Ebiko take over the old Gaylord's spot. It's small but that's perfect for a quick grab of sushi and snacks. Easy spot to stop at before a picnic or hike (two things I don't do but most people seem to enjoy,) to get everything you would need for a great lunch. In my case, I'm at the nearby UPS store with freakin' Amazon returns like every other day so this is my treat for doing that. It looks like the sushi is made on site and replenished as needed which means it's super fresh. I eat just about everything when it comes to sushi so I haven't really noted the fish but I will say, there is a nigiri that has a lightly grilled fish that is absolute heaven. I usually get an assortment but next visit I'll just get two trays of this and I'll be the happiest clam that ever clammed a clam. (No, it isn't clam sushi.) My wife and I can be considered hardcore Japanese food lovers. You know the type.....the addicted people who dream over and over about the last memorable Japanese meal whether it was sushi, ramen, curries, okonomiyaki, kakiage tempura, etc. Our most memorable meals have been based on pure coinsidence. This was the case with how we discovered Ebiko. We were walking our Shiba Inu canine (yes, we have a Japanese dog) down Piedmont Avenue two weeks ago when we stumbled upon Ebiko. Walked right in, looked at their take out options, and then we looked at each other and smiled. Wife was going to prepare duck sugo and pasta from Bullotti down the street; however, that meal plan got put on hold for a day. The sushi looked super fresh, so we picked up the omakase nigiri and the seared salmon. Got it home and devoured it. Post dinner discussion centered on "we now have a problem" since Ebiko's food was such a step up from our local neighborhood place that it is in a league of its own. We immediately made plans to go back again and verify it's more than a unicorn experience. Stopped by yesterday and picked up omakase nigiri, negi hamachi roll, and tsukemono ~ a Japanese pickle sampler. This experience was the same as our first time......super fresh and well prepared Japanese food at a very reasonable price for such high quality. The sushi was a decent price and quality. The service was what really bothered me. The check out lady had very much mean girl high school vibes. She was not friendly, had a very snotty attitude. It was my husband and my first time here and she came over to reach across us while we were choosing and watched us carefully, like she was making sure we were not going to steal anything. Salmon Aburi is the eat to go. It's deliciously torched and tender. I like to drizzle some soy sauce on top for a little extra flavor but you can also forgo this if you want to just taste the fish. The hamachi roll was average but nothing special. I'll be back for the salmon aburi! read more

A great grab in go place for sushi. Service is quick and the shop looks aesthetically pleasing for a to go place. The fish is very fresh and tasty. I picked up the omakase set which includes salmon, tuna, fatty tuna, scallop and salmon roe nigiri. The seared salmon nigiri is one of my favorites cause it's very flavorful. The hamachi roll, spicy salmon roll and eel nigiri were also delicious. One thing is parking is hard to find. Cute little spot in the old Gaylord cafe with pretty good sushi. I've had the omakase, kaisen don and a few different rolls, as well as the wakame salad. I've visited a couple times and the fish is so fresh and flavorful. Super smooth texture and decent sized pieces. I'm not sure what it is about the rice, but the flavor is slightly off to me. Not bad at all but just different. Maybe they use a rice vinegar instead of sushi vinegar, I'm not sure, it's just something I noticed. But nonetheless it's still pretty good. It doesn't take away from the flavor of the fish. The wakame salad was a little juicier than I expected but the flavor is spot on. $3.50 for a little cup but it honestly was filling along with the sushi, I couldn't eat the whole cup in one sitting. The uni shooter didn't really do it for me though as the uni was a bit bland (which sometimes happens). But the fish was quite flavorful and tasty. Given all the stellar reviews, my expectations were high, however the rice in the avocado-salmon roll I bought had way too much vinegar (all I could taste was vinegar!). Finally got a chance to try this place. Got canceled from work, no rush to get home. Let me try my luck with coming here and trying to find parking. Circled a couple of times but finally found a spot. This is my second try as I was unsuccessful finding parking the first time. Place is small but very clean and modern looking. Sushi on the left hand side and cash register on the right. I opted for the spicy tuna, spicy salmon and the omakase. Love loved the spicy salmon, the texture and the green onions made this my favorite. The spicy tuna was fresh but nothing spectacular about it. The omakase was decent. Affordable and delicious, the scallop nigiri was yummy, a huge piece of scallop and very little rice under it, wish all the sushi was like that .. lol .... Quick and easy grab and go place for snack or lunch. Parking sometimes difficult but will I drive around again looking for parking just for their sushi? I would, fresh, yummy and affordable. Delicious, reasonably priced, and no wait since you can grab and go. I got a nigiri omakase set (7 pieces for $16.99) and a 5-piece box of unagi nigiri. The omakase fish melted in my mouth, it was the perfect texture and flavor (the rice tasted great but there wasn't quite enough of it, and it was somewhat falling apart). The unagi tasted great but the pieces had a lot hard-to-chew fat on them, which I don't normally find. Edamame was delicious and well seasoned. I'll definitely be back. Although it wasn't perfect, it was definitely good, and I'm sure they'll continue improving since they're new. read more

I would come here weekly if I could, but sadly the drive is a bit out of the way for me. My husband and I always each get an omakase, share a salmon aburi, and share a toro don. Stopped by this place for a quick lunch and got salmon aburi (5 piece) & salmon avocado roll (8 piece). The Salmon aburi melts into your mouth however, isn't filling and extremely small portion for around $12. Salmon & avocado rolls were pretty big in size for $9. UPDATE Had it a second time, the aburi rolls were much smaller and less melting which was more disappointing but still good. They refill throughout the day but by the end the roll gets cold..staff was friendly though a bit pricey and less amount was given. read more
