I needed up with a pair of skis and boots for around 250 which was great. The lady that helped me out explained the difference between alpine, XC and touring skiing and the advantages/disadvantages. I ended up going with XC skis cause of the low price to entry point. I'm glad I didn't read the negative yelp reviews before going here, as I found the shopkeeper to be very honest . I did buy one pair of ski pants that were a little speedy for me, but I'd rather support a brick and mortar from folks with good values that eBay or Amazon . I do need to point out how great they are at assisting folks even when super busy. When I came in there may have been 30-40 shoppers in the store, they assisted everyone with the same enthusiasm and professionalism. I'm also new to skiing and asked at least 50 or more questions before my purchase, they never became testy, short tempered or irritated with me. And the shopkeeper knew so much about skiing. Maybe I was amazed cause I'm a novice but I feel like I'm ready for the snow now, thanks again I'd give this stores solid 9.7 out of 10, thanks to the people here.

Dicks (autocorrected to "sucks" lol...) is the type of store everyone loves...why? Because it's a…read morebig box (sporting) store and carries pretty much everything someone who is active needs. In the past couple years, I hate how Dicks added their political views to everything. I just wish businesses and whatnot would stfu about their political views. I don't shop at a place because they're super conservative or if they ...super liberal. I go to businesses if they have what I want. So when places add their two cents, specifically on anything political...it ruins them for me. I know I'm not alone in this. Seriously, shut up. We wanna buy sneakers or a water bottle, we dgaf what side of the aisle you stand on. Ok that's my rant on that lol. I rarely go here. This was my 2nd time in this store since it opened. They opened 6 years ago, maybe? I went in right after and then this time. I was at Petco next door and needed to check out their weightlifting belts. Reasonable prices on that but everything else....priiiiicey! If you shop at Dicks, you know this tho. Checked out some of their sale items and if you can get something on sale (depending on what it is) their prices can be pretty good. Big 5 is next door...right next door. The huge corporate stores love to do that to the smaller stores like Big 5. Big 5 is a better store, but of course they don't carry as much. Their prices are certainly better and makes happy this location hasn't been forced out because of the giant Dicks (lol) right next to it. There's a Big 5 minutes from my house too, so I go there more. Dicks is across from the mall so if I am In that area I may think of going in, but like I said, this was the 2nd time in 6 years that I've been in that store. I just don't care to go in that much lol. Staff was friendly tho and super helpful. So they have that going for them. Aside from that, I know this review won't help anyone lol. You either love this place or just don't care about it. Everyone knows it exists so yeah, you either go or don't. So many just order online which when it comes to places like Dicks, it's fine otherwise I love supporting small mom and pop/local shops. Ok I'm done writing about this place lol. If you've read this far, thanks! If not, I understand lol. Thanks, Yelpederers! Cheers!

Lemme tell you! Ok so REI is obviously a great store. There are some things about them I can't…read morestand..:like when they get involved in political crap. That ruins the vibe for me for any business. It's still a great store, but people need to shut up with getting involved in anything that has absolutely nothing to do with sporting goods, outdoor activities etc or whatever their business is. REI is crazy expensive tho! Ooooh! So Al's just opened. I was sad to see the trampoline park close and leave. Sports Authority was at this location at one time too. Mittens was on the board, soooo...ahhh! Never mind lol. They closed. Sad. Anyway, finally a store goes in there. Obviously we are talking about AL's. This store is fantastic. I know it's going to be pricey eventually, but when we went in, the sales they were having were amazing. They had great prices on almost everything. With Christmas coming up, too, I'm sure their sales will once again be epic. They have all kinds of top brands. North Face, Patagonia, etc. Any place that carries Patagonia is ok in my book...even if Patagonia is another company that gets too political way too often. They make great jackets tho. I've had my R3 for like 17 years and still looks new. So walking into Al's and seeing they sell Pats, made me happy. Pats in general are very expensive. So if they happen to have these on sale, don't hesitant to pick one up. Same goes for a lot of the other name brands they have here. Great store for hunters, for anyone who loves kayaking, paddle boarding, hiking, I mean, it's just a great store. I'm usually iffy on these chain stores, but I think this one is mainly specific to this area of the country, PNW, and obviously Utah and ugh, I'm sure California as well..at least Northern California? Who knows. Most people I know have already been. My hunter friends are in love with this place. They have gotten some insane deals here. However, if you haven't been, you definitely need to check it out...especially now that the Christmas season is like a day away from officially beginning. No, it doesn't start the day after Halloween lol. We got a few things here when we went. One thing was a flashlight. There was a guy in that section, wish I remembered his name. His main job is he's a fireman. I remember at least that much. This guy was such a great help. Knew the products well, super friendly, perfect teeth haha, and I mean, he was fun to look at. Sorry, had to throw that last bit in haha, because shiiiieeeet! Hahaha! Super nice guy. Everyone we came across that works there was great and eager to help. I hope this place succeeds. That spot it's in is a weird one. It seems to do good elsewhere and with Boise being a huge outdoor city, I can't see this place actually failing. I can only see it flourish and I hope it does. Check it out. Thanks for reading, YelperAl's!! Cheers!
