I am so angry with this dental practice I could spit nails! My elderly, disabled mother and I have been patients with this office since we moved to Montclair in 2015. My insurance allows 2 cleanings per calendar year which means I've been to this dentist (Rachel Johnson) 6 times. I have always taken excellent care of my teeth: brush AND floss at least twice a day (I'm in my early 50s), however EVERY time I get my teeth cleaned, they find a problem that my insurance "unfortunately doesn't cover". A couple of fillings in which I was talked into the white composite- not covered at $50, a filling for an enamel erosion with again the white composite again not covered at $50, AND BEST OF ALL: a 'custom made' bite guard at $300 because I SUPPOSEDLY grind my teeth at night which has caused a crack in the molar. Dr. Rachel even sent me to her good endodontist pal in Rancho Cucamonga to use his special dental microscope to try to talk me into a root canal AND the custom made bite guard! Unfortunately I fell for buying the bite guard for 2 easy payments of $150 each totally $300 and of course at Christmastime which severely cut into my gift shopping budget. BUT HERE IS THE ABSOLUTE BEST PART: at Walmart yesterday in the toothpaste aisle I discovered 4 manufacturers of a 'generic bite guard for nighttime teeth grinding' FOR LESS THAN $20 each!! Can you Effin believe this?! Is this office so hard-up for new patients that they have the audacity to totally screw the loyal ones they already have?!
And guess what they did to my elderly mom? Not only did they convince me she needed deep cleanings ( Medi-Medicare only covers 1 regular cleaning per year) at $90 a quadrant which = $360 x 2= $720 over the past couple years out of MY pocket AND a tooth pulled. They tried to talk me into getting 3 teeth on the bottom row pulled so they could sell me a bridge, not covered, since we'd soon be attending my daughter's wedding and her mouth should look nice. Needless to say mom wasn't attending the wedding so we only agreed to have the loosest tooth pulled and now everyday when I look at the gaping hole in her jaw I just get mad all over again.
I shoulda followed my gut when we first pulled up to the shabby building and entered the outdated pathetic-looking office where the only entertainment was listening to the receptionist talk on the phone, never mind that there was a tv in the waiting room. The dirty blinds covering the windows and the flies buzzing there shoulda made me run like hell, but... stupid me.
In closing, we WILL NOT BE GOING BACK and again my exhaustive research to find another dentist continues. read more
