We only get 1 or 2 date nights a year now, and after polling friends, we went with eatery a this time. It did not disappoint! We got there early enough to get 1/2 priced drinks. I loved the chicken dish I got, and the Brussels sprouts we split. Husband loved his hummus plate and the spicy carrots. The best part was the caramel budino though! I would have licked the jar if we were at home. read more

The interior is cool esp the heating and cooling design. Service was great and so was the pizza most notably the crust. The pizza gets five stars. The fountain iced tea gets 0. Excellent happy hour deals. 6.50 for the best pizza in the area is hard to beat read more

Been there for a friends birthday dinner and happy hour a few times and had an amazing time each time. The food was amazing and service was even better except when the server called my friend Holly when her name is Molly. read more

The atmosphere is nice, but we've consistently thought the food was just ok, especially for the price. We had the beet salad on our last visit and it seemed like the beets had gone bad. We couldn't finish the dish. Stick to the pizzas or just go across the street to the always excellent Cheese Bar. read more

What an awesome place! Great service, amazing wines, and delicious food. I had the eggplant and it tasted like Springtime. Definitely going back. read more

Great food, great service, a cool neighborhood place. An important part of the hip Ingersoll neighborhood. read more

Eatery A - Mediterranean Near Me - Des Moines, Iowa

The staff was very friendly, but we didn't care for the food. The four cheese ravioli was $17 and only got 5 little raviolis. We expected better from this place, but left unsatisfied and hungry. It wasn't worth for Valentine's Day or any day. read more

Fantastic. Half price pizza and drinks from 3- 6 pm is a crazy good deal. The care with the sides is impressive. Brussel sprouts were exceptional. Who knew they could be so good?? Same with the Mushrooms. Our waiter was excellent and very helpful. This place may be more of the norm in Chicago or MSP. but DesMoines? Yep. Prices are very low for the quality-even if it is in Iowa. BBQ chic. pizza and three cheese were top notch. Again, or server was outstanding. I've been here twice in the last two weeks sitting near the bar once and in the way back. read more

Come for the pizza! Dined as a 4-top prepared for a variety of food with the pizza as the highlight. The appetizers were decent: hummus and chicken croquets that didn't visually appear to have chicken, but the carrot salad was okay. However, the drinks were sub-par and not full pours except for the wine. Things would've been better if we had known how to order, but the staff could not care less about their jobs or the successfulness of the business. We were given no recommendations or suggestions based on the items. They claim to serve a pork shoulder but don't be mistaken, the quantity of meat served is less than can fill a taco. Half our party had to order a pizza to feel full and we are all slim and healthy body-types. The pizzas were yummy, but we won't be back. read more

I absolutely love this place! I have been there atleast half a dozen times and every time the food was amazing! The service was great and the atmosphere is so neat and clean. I have recommended this restaurant to many friends and family members. We have tried many things on the menu but our favorite is the pizza with the truffel oil and the poached egg. OMG this is the best! read more

Their food is pretty mediocre overall; bland asf. I'd say the only thing that I've had from here that tastes good is their Gyro pizza - delish. Brussels sprouts were okay, chicken Alfredo was trash as it had zero seasoning. read more

This in response to EateryA managers note to me about the poor food review I gave, recently. First thanks for taking time to note/respond. Your recommendation that next time I should let our wait staff know that I didn't care for the dish. I considered it, however, there's really not much the server can do about it after I've begun to eat it. Also, what will she tell the chef...that the dish lacked flavor and was not good? The chef cooks the way he/she cooks. Sending it back would not change the way he seasons/prepares that dish, I don't think. read more

I've eaten here twice now and I'm definitely a fan. Great bar, thoughtful food, good service. Definitely a must try in the Ingersoll area.

A go-to date night and work outings. I love it, great cocktails, great wine, great service every time. I love the pizzas. Their happy hour is so inexpensive, but it can get crowded when the weather is nice and people are on the patio so I usually avoid it and go at regular dinner time since the prices are still reasonable for the quality of the food. Prepare to park on a side street or Ingersoll if you go during peak hours or happy hour, the lot fills up fast. read more

Service was super slow, but that's the price you pay for a great happy hour and a patio. Decent wine selection, pizza is tasty. I don't think I'd go if it weren't happy hour, but I'll be back for the convenience. read more

We had a great experience last night at Eatery A. I'll go ahead and get the two complaints out of the way: 1) Oy, the parking! This place is the "it" restaurant right now, and finding a spot in the packed lot is a nightmare; 2) we had reservations, and patiently waited for our turn. The first time the hostess called us to be seated, she changed her mind halfway through taking us to a table and told us nothing was available yet. The second time we were called by the hostess, and asked if we preferred a booth at the bar or a table in the dining room. When chose the dining room, she told us nothing was available and we'd have to wait. Why give us a choice that isn't available??? With those minor issues out of the way, I have to say, I thought this was a great restaurant. Our server was friendly, prompt, attentive and very professional. We ordered the fig and prosciutto pizza at our server's recommendation, and it did not disappoint! Will definitely go here again. read more

My husband and I have been here three times and all times were during their brunch hours. As far as food goes, this place is great. Don't come here hungry for a Texas size steak, but come for a delicious gourmet meal. The most filling thing on the menu (that I have had) is their pizza, which are also gourmet. The crust is lovely. The drinks are also fun. The service has been consistently friendly. read more

This place surprised me with good food and a good atmosphere. Atmosphere-The décor is different and stylish. When we first walked in I thought it would be loud but I was easily able to carry on conversation with everyone at a table of 8. There was a nice crowd of all ages and dress. You would be comfortable dressed up a little or in jeans and a t-shirt. Service-We had a reservation and we were promptly seated. Our waitress gave us the right level of service, keeping the water glasses full but not intruding on our evening. She seemed to know the menu and was not afraid to offer an opinion. Her suggestions were right on point. The timing of the food was good. Not so fast that I felt like I was being shuffled out the door and not so long that I had to eat my napkin. Food-I had the Lamb Sliders and they were excellent. An interesting mix of flavors and the portion size was perfect. My wife had the Ricotta Cavatelli and she loved it and from the few bites I stole it was spicy, filling, and very good. Our table had a couple of pizza's, shrimp and scallops. Everyone seemed to enjoy their selection and the only complaints were portion size. To be honest the portion sizes are small compared to Pizza Ranch or Cheese Cake Factory, but probably more in line with what they should be. I definitely didn't leave hungry. I didn't have dessert, but those who did really enjoyed it. The beer and wine selection weren't outstanding, but there was a good selection that paired well with the menu. Price-I thought for the quality and atmosphere the prices were very reasonable. My wife and I got out of there for under $100 including drinks and tip. Overall-You should give it a try. I had never heard of the place before, but it reminded me to venture outside West Des Moines or the heart of Downtown to find some great places to eat. read more

Yes, they have an awesome happy hour - half price pizza, beer and wine! Can't beat that. But! What is up with having to pay for refills? Not wanting to drink soda - I ordered a glass of juice. And then asked for a refill. And what do you know - I was charged for both! So I guess unless you're drinking bad-for-you soda or plain tap water - you will pay for every glass? Ridiculous. Also, for crying out loud - make your patio seating same as dining room! The concept of having to hover around and constantly check if a table opened up - it's ridiculous! It creates stress for people waiting for a table - you can't just relax and enjoy a drink, you're constantly watching for movement on the patio. And those who are already on the patio - you can tell when people are hovering and waiting for you to leave! Why can't it be like at all other restaurants - you come in, put your name and wait for a table that will be given to you by the hostess when it's your turn?! The patio situation is a HUGE turnoff. read more

Hands down the best happy hour in Des Moines. They not only have great pizza but there are a handful of other great choices. For sure a great place for a date or to bring your parents when they come into town. read more

Eatery A has always had an impressive washroom experience, but recently they've stepped up their game. High ceilings and gorgeous stalls, I find the aesthetic to be well thought out and playful. Sinks are designed beautifully and the mirror is lovely, despite a few smudges. Would be better if music piped into the bathroom, but maybe they just had the speakers turned off on the night I was there. Four out of five stars for this eatery's water closet! read more

Have been here twice and both times the service and the food were excellent. So many competing flavors to choose from on the menu, the lamb sausages were the highlight this time, surprisingly spicy! read more

Started off with a cocktail...Moinesjito, which was well blended, love minty refreshing drinks. Had a very tasty almond soup. Ordered the scallops with cous cous and olives and it was delicious although small portion. My son had a pizza, with egg and that was also very good. The half price drinks and pizza during happy hour is a great deal. The menu was unique with lots of tempting choices so I will just have to go back! read more

This place is Awesome! Great atmosphere and friendly wait staff. Had the pork cheek with polenta which was really good. Portion sizes are good will leave full. Only complaints are that its a little on the dark side for dinner. Felt like I needed a flashlight to read the menu. The music was a little on the loud side. read more

We enjoyed an amazing brunch on the patio with 2 kids and a baby! It was the best brunch I have had in Des Moines by far! Plus, the friendliest making us feel like we belonged with young children! The wait staff went out of their way to make sure we had everything we needed and offered a different table so we were out of the direct sun! Now...the best part...the FOOD! Amazing! Moving here from Chicago where "brunching" was a real thing, we found our go to for every Saturday or Sunday Brunch!! Can't wait for my friends to come visit and show off this awesome place!! This is a Des Moines spot not to miss!! read more

I was so excited when this place opened up last year. A true gem along Ingersoll Ave. I love that this area is getting a new vibe and this restaurant is definitely helping to create that. The renovated building is beautiful! A wide variety on the menu should appeal to most peoples taste. I love trying new and different things and my husband is more traditional and sticks with what he knows he likes. This place is a favorite for us both! I highly recommend a trip downtown to check this out! read more

My husband and I recently checked out Eatery A when one of my good friends was visiting. We were extremely pleased with the food selection, atmosphere, and prices available at Eatery A. We sampled both appetizers and entrees, and everything we tried was awesome! The service was quick, our server was knowledgeable, and we had a great time hanging out and catching up with a good friend without breaking the bank! Fun spot for a quick bite to eat! read more

I've even there three times and enjoyed each one of them. The pizza with fig is really good. I've had the lamb slides and the mussels and both were pretty tasty. The used to have a date cake that was amazing but it's gone, the caramel salted budino not so much. I had a taste of the new date pudin, it's even better! read more

I should start by saying the service and ambiance were 5-star, but the food was almost nasty, hence the 2-star rating for this review. We ordered the Brussels sprouts as an appetizer. While they were cooked nicely, they were way too sweet. The pork cheeks were horribly over-cooked and the seasoning in the whole dish was very one note. No complementing flavors at all. We each took one bite and declined the offer of a to-go box. The one & only hit of the night was the wild mushrooms over polenta - delicious! Our server then burst our bubble by telling us they are taking it off the menu. I don't get to Des Moines very often, and with so many other choices, this will be my last trip to Eatery A. read more

I've been to Eatery A several times for the happy hour special: half priced drinks and pizza from 4-6pm. Up until this last time, the service was decent (had an incidence of a really timid/awkward waitress - but the rest of the times were fine). This last time was particularly bad, and makes me hesitant to want to go again. We arrived with a group of 5 of us, had a bit of a wait so we ordered drinks at the bar: 1.) We were seated in a slightly more private area, which was great, except they forgot about us for about 15 minutes. A waiter finally came by and asked us if we had been helped, he was pretty awkward about it 2.) We ordered an appetizer, but did not receive silverware (similar to another reviewer), or plates. I finally went and found a hostess and asked her if she could please bring us silverware as our food was getting cold. Still no plates, but at that point we just dug in. The brussels were delicious. 3.) We all ordered pizza and a few more drinks. The pizzas were delicious as always. Our waiter never really came by our table again, and no one refilled our waters the entire time. All in all, the food is great, but the service is hit or miss and could definitely be improved on. Beware: the appetizers are pretty tiny. Olive tamponade was tasty but not really satisfying as an appetizer to share, for the price. read more

Great menu and fantastic environment. Good service and amazing patio. Must go. Parking is a little limited but that's every place on Ingersoll so it's not out of the ordinary. read more

Pizzas are amazing! This is the type of place where they take a lot of pride in the ingredients they are using. I've been there twice now and I have tried several things on the menu...you can taste the quality in every bite! read more

One of DSMs best!! Worth a visit or visiting again. A very comfortable restaurant with great atmosphere. The happy hour (half price pizzas and drinks) is great but the true strength is in their regular menu! read more

Waitress tried to scam me on a happy hour pizza by adding on charges that shouldn't have been there. Had to fight her on it- tacky. Wish they had more to eat for vegans. read more

If I could give this place more stars, I would. Loved my Virgin Pimm's cocktail. It was delicious and obviously made from fresh ingredients. I didn't feel super hungry, so I settled on avocado toast. Mother of god was it good, and it was so much more than avocado toast! I don't even know what all was on there: flavorful stewed chickpeas, some kind of spicy oil, a poached egg, arugula maybe, oh wow - the chunky bread was piled high with delicious stuff! I couldn't stop eating it. Everyone loved what they ordered. The potato bravas were a bit salty, I thought, and they could have used more of the delicious aioli, but still good. And I guess we could have asked for more, to be fair. Our server was harried but extremely hospitable and friendly, and also sweet and helpful when it came time for the little one in our group to order. Decor is funky and interesting. I want to go back every day of my visit to DsM. Definitely eat here! (Pull it. Pull it real good.) read more

Great restaurant with some wonderfully unique dishes to try. Lamb, octopus and much more! Excellent flavors and delicate presentations. We will return again. Next time we will sit on the patio! read more

Kind of pricey and don't go on a Friday night if you want to get in right away the pizza was good though

a month ago eatery A would have rec'd 4 stars from me but the last few times we've dined here have been disappointing. we go for happy hour and always for pizza. The Date/ Blue cheese pizza is my favorite but I have to ask for extra dates because they cut back on dates after customers complained it was too sweet. There is an extra charge for more dates. The crust is also taking over a good 1/3rd of the pizza. The crust is good but even out the pizza field guys. don't glob all the flavor in a 2-inch diameter and leave plain, sometimes charred crust remaining. read more

Eatery A is one of those hidden gems that you discover either by word of mouth of sophisticated foodies or pure dumb luck. My girlfriend and I came here for her birthday on the aforementioned foodie recommendation and we were not disappointed. The Moroccan carrots were amazing, with just the right amount of tenderness. She ordered the lamb sliders and the flavor level was through the roof. I, being overwhelmed at the menu options, ordered the ricotta cavatelli and it was EPIC. The fennel sausage was bold and presented well. The pesto sauce held its own and married perfectly with the mushrooms and pasta. Eatery A was a clear line in the sand between going out to eat because you don't feel like cooking vs. going out to eat somewhere special. I recommend making reservations and getting some tonight. read more

Interesting and trendy interior and patio was very nice (except for mosquitoes which drove everyone inside...time to light those citronella candles!). The appetizers were short on bread so it would have been a nice touch to have a basket of flatbread on the table. Husband had gyro pizza which could have used more gyro and less feta. I opted for the chilled crab but they were out...(also out of the bottle of wine we originally wanted, disappointing) so I ended up with asparagus salad and cheese plate. The asparagus salad was fantastic and could have easily been turned into a main dish! Our waiter was knowledgeable and attentive but the hostess was rather persnickety (rather rude when we asked to sit outside and don't think I saw her smile all evening - just sauntered around with a bored expression on her face). Overall I would give Eatery A 3 1/2 stars and will try it again. read more
