So I've spend a lot of time (and too much £) at Sixteen's neighbour/sister Faculty and yet never…read moremanaged to make it here for a meal. I decided to remedy that after drinking a Faculty coffee here, using the cafe as overflow seating during a particularly busy time. I was entranced by the variety and looks of the food, and have eaten lunch there three times this week to ensure that their awesomeness is consistent. I'm happy to report that Sixteen Kitchen & Bakery is one of the most delicious and affordable sandwich shops in the city centre. Sixteen is the brainchild of the owners of Faculty, and supplies the coffee shop with their delectable desserts. The shop is joined with Faculty by an open wall, so you can easily order something from one or both and sit in either location. Whereas Faculty uses a bar and two seater table arrangement, Sixteen's seating is entirely on two long tables. This is perfect for large groups or office team lunches (I've seen a lot of work being done here) but can get cramped otherwise. In addition to making desserts for Faculty, the kitchen & bakery serves breakfast and lunch until the late afternoon. I haven't made it to Piccadilly Arcade early enough for breakfast (stops at 11AM), but lunch is good enough to make it a regular mid-day stop. I've ordered the kimchi and cheddar toastie, as well as the basil, pesto, tomato, and mozzarella ciabatta, and most recently the vegemite and avocado sandwich. The kimchi is homemade of course and has a nice balance between heat and actually enjoying the flavours of it. Good luck finding kimchi that tastes this good elsewhere in Birmingham! The ciabatta was done up right and while not blowing away my tastebuds, hit all the right notes. The vegemite and avocado with tomato and mature cheddar was pretty much what you would expect. Like marmite, you either love it or hate it! All of the sandwiches are made fresh daily and packaged on the counter for hygiene. Upon selection, they are placed in a press for finishing. The menu is not set, changing every few days depending on bread (from Peel & Stone) and produce (from the Bullring Open Market). Sandwiches hover around the £4 mark and are a great value especially for the larger ones. For an extra £1 you can add salad to your meal as a side. My only complaint at this point is the lack of beverages. Sixteen makes fresh pressed juices for £3.50 and that's it. If you want anything else, you'll have to head next door to Faculty (although tap water is free). They could do with adding some flavoured/sparkling waters or other canned/bottled drinks. Overall Sixteen is a wonderful addition to the independent businesses of Piccadilly Arcade and contender for best sandwich shop in Brum.

The store does have limited seating due to its small confines. The menus changes every day and are put up on the wall behind the counter using a sharpie and ripped up sheets of paper. They generally specialise in sandwiches and soups but also sell cakes or pastry to compliment. If you wanted a coffee to match their is a door leading through to faculty from the store side. On this occasion is purchased a toasted sandwich which was halloumi, pesto and basil on sour dough. It tasted absolutely great, the sandwich was toasted perfectly. The correct portioning meant flavours were great and not overpowering. It cost £4 which I think is very reasonable considering quality. If your waiting for a train or just need a quick lunch sandwich I would recommend sixteen kitchen!

It's your typical deli shop serving made to order hot and cold sandwiches. They offer a variety of fillings to choose from. I've found my fav to be chicken, bacon, and avacado. It gets really rammed in here during the lunch hours and can feel chaotic. It's not as cheap as a supermarket meal deal, but is cheaper than Philpotts I'd say. Although I find the food to be pretty good, some of the women who work there are not the most friendly. One woman in particular has wrapped up my sandwiches two times without ever asking what veg I want. She is quite rude and impatient. If it weren't for the behavior of the employees I would rate this place higher.

Located at the end of Broad St, just five minutes away from Five Ways Train Station and close to several bus stops this little shop caters for the busy Birmingham worker. Whether you're an early bird wanting to grab a hot sarnie or if you're like me and you use lunch as a time to indulge yourself, then this is the place for you. I recommend any of the home-made soups! They are delicious and have perked me up on many a miserable rainy day. I went with the chicken and vegetable last week, it was piping hot and really tasty. As I went for the soup deal it included a bread roll and a piece of fruit (my late afternoon snack). What a great deal for only £2.95! They also do a good range of sandwiches and if you want to mix and match then they are more than happy to do this for you. There are a lot of different deals on so make sure you have a good look through to see which one suits you. On several visits I have seen people collecting platters and when I enquired I found out they cater for businesses and larger events like weddings and Christmas parties! Something to take a note of. As our winters seem to be getting longer, warm yourself up and get down here!

I don't understand how such a place can go unreviewed for over 2 years, Selfridges World Of Food,…read moreis an amazing part of the large Selfridges department store, which is one of 4 in the country and this branch is right in the heart of Birmingham City center, on the ground level of Selfridges with also enterences into the Bullring center, the other 2 stores I have visited in Manchester and Trafford both have enterences into malls as well, but out of the 3, this "Food Hall" is by far the best for the range stocked. Selfridges World of Food has a great feel to it, and atmosphere stocking so many things, including a range of Wilkin and Sons jam, albeit expensive is a very nice giftset for nice, premium jam, which the large tins can often be found in a supermarket, but still these jams are used in the best hotels, such as Hilton, which I noticed on my recent visit to their Green Park branch in London, near enough opposite Buckingham Palace. Not only do they stock a good range, but they is a large amount of eateries based here, they is an Ed's Easy Diner, a PRET A Manger, Krispy Kreme, most of these are typical things to find in a Selfridges along with Pattiserie Valerie's stand of sweet treats, which even stocks Hey Little Cupcake, cakes which are from a small, independent Manchester based business, who have one store in Manchester and also a popup at the Selfridges branch in Trafford. This store even has a small Starbucks inside, which seems a nicer, quieter branch for a city center, They stocked good range of teas, including Teapigs, a brand of loose leaf teas and Monin flavouring syrups for coffee, which are used in Costa Coffee and Caffe Nero. Nespresso, another regular at Selfridges also had a stall here and so did Nutella, where you could buy a 400g jar of Nutella at great value for £1.99, already cheaper than the retail price at Tesco, but get your name printed on it as well! There was also a nice range of expensive wines and Cadbury's Chocolate. Even with no intent to buy, being one of 4 in the UK (one of 3 food halls) this is really worth a look in, because it is an amazing place to shop, apart from the high places and it being a really high-end place, it is worth a look in, even if like me, you have no intention to buy anything (although it is hard not to), yet still walk out with a Selfridges bag. I have also commented on the store its-self in a separate review, but the building its-self is a fantastic, modern building which really does stand out on Birmingham High Street, and continues the Selfridges way of only having the best buildings.

I had to say, "excuse me" to get their attention and then head to Even so, the employees should be paying attention to the customer and aware of when their customers arrive and where they are. Once I was helped, I got the eggs on whole wheat toast. It was okay, just to get something in my belly, but it had no flavor, no sauce. I believe it was £3.95 from what I read or maybe I was so hungry, but she charged me £2.95. I ain't complainin'. Lol. :) She was very nice, but it was not the best experience. It was more of a grab and go to get something to fill me up, but did not have much flavor. Although they are more known for their sweets, they should still have high quality, tasty food for their other food items. It is also a chain, so sometimes with chains, the quality of the food and service goes down. Out of the other options, they are more like fast-food service and do not have healthy options. It was okay, not as great as I thought it would be. That's okay. If you are looking for great places to eat at the mall, check out the sit-down restaurants like Bill's, which has exceptional service and food. There is also Café Rouge and other restaurants that should be good. :)

We had flown into Birmingham at 5am, and we were looking for a place that had wifi and somewhere warm to sit. This lead us to Mcdonalds right next door to Baguette World. We saw construction workers walking by the window with delicious looking baguettes, and I knew I needed to find the source. Little did I know, we were right next door to it! It is the littlest shop, but I was in awe of the yummy options, and insanely cheap prices! 1 pound for a loaded baguette?? After getting the London price shock, it was so relieving to see their prices! They offer breakfasts, warm and cold baguettes, etc. and the two warm baguettes we got were soo delicious. It was just what we needed. We took our sandwiches down to Cafe Nero, but they didn't quite make it the whole way :) Basically, we are glad we followed the construction workers, because they know about little gems like this!
