Tohsti - Tandoori Toastie

Tohsti

Great new spot for comfort food in the market…read more Make sure you look for it in the Market Arcade and not in the Central Market (which I did for 15 minutes...) Once I did find it I was welcomed by friendly staff. Basic toasties at $7.50 and more adventurous toasties are $9.50, each with about 2 or 3 different ingredients. Looks like each toastie takes max 5 minutes to make and if you dine in, it comes with a little salad too. I tried the Tandoori Chicken toastie on recommendation from the staff and was not disappointed. Coffee was pretty good too. Great for a quick lunch if you're in the area, don't forget to leave a note on the blackboard too!

Toasties... Mmmmm. What can possibly go wrong?…read more The newly opened Tohsti is already getting a bit of a buzz and was featured in CityMag awhile ago. It's conveniently located in the newly revamped (check out all the new stores!) Central Market arcade, best located near the entrance coming in from Gouger St. The 'gourmet' toasties start form $9.50, they also do house shakes etc and a whole slew of other brilliant creations. If sweet toasties are you thing, they do that too! I got the roast pork, sauerkraut and cheese toastie with pumpkin bread which was pretty damn good. It comes with a salad as well which makes the meal perfect! I also go the Agro milkshake - give them a go! Protip: Come before or after lunchtime, it gets pretty busy and service can be lacking a bit.

Oh yeah, this is one f*cking awesome food truck!…read more Today I sampled both the southern-style chicken and slaw bun with pickles, onion rings and ranch, as well as the Texas pulled pork and slaw bun with BBQ corn and BB pickles. (both $9) In a word? YUM-AZING. To top it off, they have *cherry* Dr. Pepper in the fridge. These guys literally cannot get any damn better! The truck shows up in various spots around the CBD for lunchtime, so check their FB page for where they're going to be on a given day. They usually announce it the night before, along with the menu items they'll be serving.

There's usually only 2 or 3 choices served each time the Van is on the road. You get to choose from some of the following tasty treats: Toasted Rueben, Texas Pulled Pork Roll, Pastrami on Rye, Cajun Prawn Po Boy, Beef Debris Po Boy, Philly Cheese Steak, Southern Fried Chicken Bun or even a Salad and of course the always present Deep Fried Pickles The home made Slaw is an excellent add on the great tasting meats used and even a BBQ Corn Cob that comes with the Pulled Pork Roll adds an extra something. The flavours are just great and at a decent price. To top it all off the owner/staff in the Van are great, going out of their way to remember their regulars. a real nice touch.

Pity as the food seemed promising. My eating companions order was also messed up by the server- side note who was also rude sadly and ignored us when we tried to get it fixed. Tbh. I have had better. Oh holy pickle, this café is really exciting!…read more Pickle in the Middle began their journey as a pop up stall in the Adelaide Central Markets. The stall showcased awesome cheesy pickle toasties and an arrangement of pickled local produce. After being an absolute hit with the locals, they have opened this lovely establishment. This café really shows that if you work hard enough, you can achieve your goals. What an impressive job they have done! The layout of the café is open, fresh and inviting. A big long bar kitchen area is the main feature piece, surrounded by modern styled café tables and chairs. Upon my arrival, I was greeted by a lovely waitress who seated me and guided me through the menu. But, I knew what I wanted before I arrived. Pickle cheese toastie, oh yeah! How could I not? Every review of Pickle in the Middle claims that they make the best toasties in Adelaide. However, after revising the menu I was also tempted to try the Beet Cured Salmon. Maybe next time. Bring on the cheese toastie! So, after a giggle with my waitress I ordered the ever beckoning toastie and a refreshing glass of lemon myrtle iced tea. I did not have to wait long for my meal and I could not wipe the smile from my face. In my opinion, to make the perfect cheese toastie you need three things. 1: To choose your bread carefully (thick slices is preferable). 2: Good quality sharp cheese. 3: Must be cooked on a flat grill plate or saucepan (none of this toastie machine stuff). And boy did they deliver. My toastie was cooked to perfection, a lovely golden brown on the outside and thick gooey cheese on the inside. The zucchini pickle accompaniment was simply divine; pickled with mustard seeds, onion, and the right amount of sweetness and acidity. The toastie to my surprise as also served with a yummy pickled small cucumber and a small portion of a salad. The lemon myrtle iced tea was so refreshing and really worked well with the cheese toastie. So, the verdict: Yes, this was one of the best toasties I have eaten in Adelaide. Well done guys! I think this café may be the talk of the town very soon! I love this café for offering such a simple menu and showing that simple food can be so special.

Needless to say it has haunted my dreams since, so today after a hard workout my husband and I biked over for lunch. The first thing that strikes you while approaching from Kitchener Street is the lush, inviting covered wrap around porch; there is plentiful and adequately spaced tables located here (so as not to be forced to overhear unwanted convos). Next, upon entering this clean and tidy cottage you will notice three separate distinct seating areas: the main dining area, a smaller dining area tucked away by the kitchen and pastry counter, and a delightful and welcoming covered deck. We were promptly greeted by one of the friendly staff and seated straight away. Tap water, glasses, and menus were waiting at the table and after an appropriate amount of time our order was taken and special requests confirmed. This place is really busy but it seems well managed; the staff is very attentive without being intrusive. As we waited for our order we noticed the bustling and efficient staff who worked like a well oiled machine - dirty dishes were quickly removed from tables, additional carafes of tap water were dropped off without being asked for, and patrons seemed relaxed, very happy, and satisfied. By meals' end we, too, were among those happy people. My husband ordered a sandwich that I struggle to recall the name ;( it was a hearty sandwich made from perfectly toasted sourdough, grilled chicken breast meat, swiss cheese, garlic aioli, a mix of tender and flavourful greens, and crispy bacon. I ordered the smashed avocado with feta on the same delightfully prepared sourdough. It, too, came with a generous portion of greens. We could not be happier with our newfound neighbourhood brekkie place. AND there is a coffee loyalty card to boot!

My next idea was Mulot's Patisserie, but their doors weren't any more inviting, as white paper covered all their windows. I was out of ideas until I spied the Hyde Park Bakery in the distance. I figured they were new kids on the block, as I'd never come across them when I was living round the corner. A quick squiz at their Facebook shows in fact they are pretty new, and opened up in March of this year. But back to the goods. I was immediately drawn to their lattice shortbread pies, but I had a cravings for something savoury. It was a real dilema because everything in the cabinets looked delicious. I settled on a pumpkin & feta parcel and grabbed a shortbread pie to take home for later. I've spent years searching for a pumpkin & feta parcel to rival one that Michel's Patisserie in DJs Food Court (they don't do them anymore), sadly these weren't the ones, but they were still delicious. I can't wait to get back to try some more of their goodies. Everyone was helpful and friendly, and one of the bakers even came out to chat to a lady about their boiled chocolate cake, when they were made, and how long they'll last. It was then that we noticed the cake stand offering sizeable tastings of this particular cake. If you're in the area check this bakery out, I'm almost glad everywhere else was closed.

The staff here graciously glide through customers ensuring that everyone's needs are met. This is all done with a smile and passion for their profession. One thing I really love in a business is when you see the staff enjoying themselves. It is kind of infectious! You just want to be around them more and support such a positive environment and business. It is all about starting your day in the right way! Décor is simple and funky with cool wooden rustic looking tables. The menu is also simple, which shows that they are confident in what they deliver. With my love of bagels, I did not have to second-guess what I wanted for brekkie. It is served with herbed cream cheese, smoked salmon, capers, watercress and pickled onions. Woo! However, after ordering it seems I had to get there earlier. They had run out of bagels! But, the staff where kind enough to offer a sourdough as a sub. Great! And also, I should mention that I am not fussed if a restaurant runs out of something. It just means their food is fresh and popular! Ok, so my brekkie was amazing. Lots of flavour in the cream cheese and pickled onions. Bread and salmon was super fresh and the watercress just tied everything off. Perfect! Could not fault it and would be just as amazing in bagel form. The coffee here is ace as well, great flavour and a strong brew! Good pick me up for the rest of my day. I saw on their menu they do burgers, so I think I will return for that. Absolutely love the staff and atmosphere here. Highly recommended!

They also yummy take away foods, like the baguettes that Rani mentioned. My hot tip: the kranskys here are GOOD. Yummy and made on the spot so they're fresh and good quality, though they don't offer a lot of toppings or chili sauce which makes me a little bit sad.
