Long story short, on the very first visit, all this doctor talked about was that I needed blepharoplasty on both eyes. He badgered me until I agreed to it, even though I told him I didn't think I needed it. Turned out I was correct, and my insurance company refused to pay because they also said it was unnecessary. He could not bill me because the office told me it WOULD be covered. He appealed multiple times, but Medicare continued to deny payment. He almost cost me my vision by telling me to apply Neosporin to my eyelids after the surgery. After I applied it to my eyelids, it melted and ran into my eyes and I could see nothing but a big blur for a couple of days. I checked with the manufacturer and was told you should NEVER, EVER apply it to the eyelids! I have 2 typewritten, single spaced pages listing everything that went wrong, plus documentation from Medicare stating why it was unnecessary. My advice is run, don't walk, as far away from this incompetent doctor and his rude and nasty staff. Run, run, as fast as you can!!!

Which, he is very nice guy BUT never look at my eye with his naked eye only thru A binocular microscop. I was told my vision was "perfect" but I never told them I wear glasses . So how can my vision be perfect? I'm being treated for "floaters" but obviously when you look at my eye I have pinguecuela. floaters and pinguecula are completely different. Floaters are the result of the jelly inside of your eyeball breaking down and as a result you see little floaters. A pingueculum or pinguecula is a growth on the white surface part of your eye that is typically related to sun exposure. It is a benign growth that can become inflamed and cause irritation. I believe my Medical background still serves me well. Both of my appointments with Dr. Monson were under 5 min. I believe he was more concerned about playing/flirting with the front desk vs. my appointment. The last time I visited, the lady who checked me out was so unpleasant and unprofessional (chewing her gum and then texting on her phone) she was uncomfortably rude to me( don't know her name bcs. They don't wear a name tags but she had blonde hair). Office is very clean, but they need to work on their customer/patient service much better

1st, let me say I have been a patient here for about 15 years. Dr. Vanderhoof is excellent and…read morecompassionate. My cataract surgery is the reason for the 2 stars. On April 1, 2025, I was told my cataracts were "ripe" enough to do surgery. I was put on the waiting list. 3 months later, I had my first surgery. Before that I met with the surgeon and the "insurance expert", Fran. During a one-on-one meeting with this so-called expert, I made it quite clear I did not want my eye drops prescription called in to Walgreens. She assured me she would call it in to Henry Ford Pharmacy, my preferred pharmacy. She called it in to Walgreens! After 4 phone calls, I straightened that mess out. After the above, I spoke to the office manager, Kathy, about Fran's actions. She assured me that Fran would be "written up". While on the phone with Kathy, I inquired why I had to pay the $35 refraction fee before they would do my surgery. Her response, "that's our procedure". BTW, that refraction didn't occur until August 21, 7 weeks later. But, of course they processed my payment immediately. After the 2nd eye operation, I did a follow-up appointment to see how the procedure went. I had some swelling, so Dr. Vanderhoff suggested I return in 2 weeks for another evaluation. When I got to the front desk, I was told there was nothing in 2 weeks, so they set it at 3 weeks. A week later, they called me and said they had to push my appointment out another week, or a month after my surgery. I ordered my glasses through Costco and finally picked the up today. My entire summer was blind-sighted (forgive the pun). Why can't a cataract patient be given a schedule of appointments so that the final outcome can happen in a reasonable timeline? There seems to be a disconnect between the professional staff and the people at the front desk. Why does a patient who knowingly has numerous appointments have to use the card reader to check-in every time. "The system" has all your insurance information and your driver's license stored. I will be seeking additional vision care at a different facility.

The office itself is stunning--modern and aesthetically pleasing, providing a welcoming and comfortable atmosphere from the moment you step in. While the wait time was slightly longer it was well worth it because I saw 2 doctors that day. The thoroughness of the staff is evident in their detailed explanations of all available options and alternatives for LASIK surgery. Each step was clearly outlined. What truly stood out was the meeting with the counselor. They went above and beyond to explain the cost aspects of the procedure with complete transparency. just one straightforward price. This level of honesty and clarity was refreshing and greatly appreciated especially in medicine.
