The instructors here are beyond intelligent and talented! They are all passionate, kind, helpful, and determined. I am quite impressed with their level of patience and ability to organize every class as well. We tried their program using the promotion for 1 month. The program not only consisted of an entire month of classes but also a belt and the gee. The establishment was clean but very small. While the mat is the perfect size for the class, it does not have enough space for the parents to sit and the little space that is designated for the parents is far too close to the mat and the little kicks, punches, and loud yells. I loved the story time implemented into every class, and how active they are with the students and their families outside of class (they have weekly events that are fun, engaging, and creative!) **The only issues are as follows**: - The deposit when enrolling/signing up after the promo is $399.00. - The monthly fee is $199.00. - The classes are only 30 minutes each and I believe they can only go to two classes a week.. 1 hour of classes a week for $199.00 a month is not ideal. - Testing. The parents and the children were not made aware that they were testing for their "tip" until the day of. It would have been nice to have that information ahead of time so the child(ren) can be better prepared. read more

Personalized attention to each person in class is unique to this place. My 12 year old feels important and talented in his class. His self esteem and confidence grew quickly and he is making friends because everyone is kind. The company is well organized and the instructors are uplifting with boundless energy. Everyone seems to love their jobs. read more

My daughter has been going here about a month and she LOVES it ! We go twice a week, the schedule for the little ones is great they have later ones for parents that work late. My family spent about 2 years here. Both myself, my husband, and one of my children are disabled. In the beginning they were very tolerant of disabilities and assured us that would never change. As the business evolved, it became clear that was a lie. As time went on disability accomodations disappeared and harassment started. The staff at East Mesa Karate are absolutely NOT tolerant of those with disabilities, both physical and mental- especially invisible disabilities. They try to shove all disabled people to the back of the room and treat them poorly- this includes being berated & embarrassed publicly after class within earshot of others. If you need to say, shift your feet due to pain- their instructors will tell you "it's not allowed". If you stand up for yourself, the instructor make up stories so the owner will kick you out. Disability violations up the wazoo here. Beware. read more

My son has been loving the Krav Maga classes! Very positive and social environment. Kind instructors.

I started off liking this company but then they don't do the right thing. We literally went to maybe 2 classes for my 2 kids right before all this coronavirus stuff happened. We bought up front 6 months. We called multiple times, it's been 3 weeks asking for a refund. We are business owners so we had to do the same for our customers I don't understand why they won't do the right thing. We literally are living on half of income then we normally do and don't feel safe bringing our kids in at the current time since I have a compromised immune system. We finally got in touch and they said they wouldn't refund. We told them we would have come back when we had our income come back but now I don't even feel comfortable coming back. Now we have to loose $1100 and come back to use it who knows when. Very disappointed in their ethics. read more

My daughter has been coming to East Mesa Karate for 2.5 years and she absolutely loves it. At 6.5 she earned her Little Dragon black-white belt and is now in Basic class earning her "real" belts. The staff is amazing. They know every student's name and skill level. They have tons of patience with the students who need it, and give extra challenges to the students who can handle it. My daughter also does the Hyper program which is a mix of martial arts and gymnastics. EMK offers Kids Night Out and sleepover events and a summer camp which have allowed my daughter's sport to also become a social activity for her. I can't say enough good things about the Baker family and the rest of the instructors. We recommend East Mesa Karate! read more

The teachers are amazing, the classes make my son smile from ear to ear. He's started to come out of his shell and has become more helpful at home. They have all these extras like berf gun night and kids night out. Definitely worth the money for all the learning going on read more

We have been coming here for many years! My husband, all three kids and myself learn karate here. Their program also has a lot of fun other classes like Paxil Arts, Kali and Hyper Pro. The Saturday Family Class ROCKS! I enjoy doing karate with my kids! The Bakers are great with kids and adults alike! Classes are fun, and, of course the physical benefits of taking karate is a great "side-effect." Other aspects are taught, like perseverance, having a positive self-image, gratitude and more... Helping to reinforce what we teach our kids at home. I would absolutely encourage everyone to come and check out East Mesa Karate! read more

My son has been going to East Mesa Karate for several years & I recently joined. The programs that are offered are a lot of fun. To name a few programs: American Kenpo Karate, Kali, Hyper Pro, or Weapons training. My son has been in several programs that never once does he complain that he doesn't want to go to his class, he is urging us (Parents) on to go to class. I recently joined to learn self-defense and work on my positive self-image. Watching my son throughout the years develop from a shy child (not willing to step in front of the class to demonstrate a move) to a kid that is so eager to lead is amazing to me. The Baker family does a fantastic job teaching leadership skills that not only work on how to educate others but also teaches respect, having a positive self-image, being motived and so much more! I would & currently do encourage people to check this place out. read more

I'm really impressed with the staff and instruction here. My son's attitude and confidence has improved significantly. He is a happier and more respectful kid at home and school. It's amazing to see him taking pride in ownership of his feelings and possessions. He has made so many friends and when we leave his karate session he is just beeming and can't wait to come back. read more

I'm not sure if this is a good karate place or not. However, if their karate is as disorganized and nonfunctional as the birthday parties they run...I wouldn't waste my money. I'm came here for a friend's child's birthday party. He was told that they did a super awesome NERF gun war. We arrived and they were completely unprepared for the party. They had kids testing the NERF guns to see if they worked. In the end they had 5 working guns. So only 5 kids could play at a time. While the rest had to sit and watch. Those guns only worked spottily. It was 25 minutes after the party was supposed to start that they had their first NERF war. $200+ dollars down the drain. I highly recommend you avoid this place at all costs. read more

My son has been attending and learning here for two years. The instructors are very knowledgeable, kind and caring. My son has grown more confident from learning karate from Mr. Baker. If you are looking for something that will capture the attention of your child, this is it! read more

East Mesa Karate is amazing. They care so much about their students. Not just how they are doing on the mat but in life, at home, school, they care! My son has ADHD and we've seen a huge improvement in him since starting at East Mesa Karate. They are awesome about make up classes if you are unable to make it to a class. They will work with you one on one if you need additional help. I can't recommend them highly enough! read more

We have been going to East Mesa Karate for about a year now. We tried 3 other local Karate schools and found this one to be the best! The respect the Bakers have for each other as instructors and the students is amazing. My daughters confidence has sky rocketed. Seeing the smiles on her face when she graduates to a new belt, and when she learns something new is awesome. She loves going for different theme nights. A great school! read more

This is the first "thing" that my daughter has really gotten into. I think it's a combination of the physical aspects and emotional. She's getting constant feedback, she's seeing results for her efforts in the belt graduations, she's gaining confidence while also considering how to influence others positively, she's taking accountability. I didn't know that karate was about all of this stuff when I signed her up. I honestly just wanted her to learn some self defense techniques. This has quickly become an important part of our lives. She enjoys Mom and Dad watching her grow and learn. I recommend this karate studio for anyone looking to gain any of these skills. The staff is amazing and so dedicated to shaping my daughter's life. read more

East Mesa Karate is an excellent establishment. I began taking my son there just before he turned 3 years old. They normally start accepting students at 3 years old. They gave my son a significant amount of extra attention and even let us come in early for one-on-one time before the class started. The instructors were exceptionally patient with my son and very kind to his mother and I. We did end up pulling my son out of their classes just because he doesn't quite seem old enough to benefit fully from what they teach. However in another six months or so we plan on bringing him back as we had a very pleasant experience with them. I would highly recommend East Mesa Karate for anybody with small children wanting to get involved in group activities. read more
