We were nervous to start our 5yo in TKD because any previous activities would usually end up with him getting frustrated and sitting with us. From Day 1, our son was actively engaged and we've seen a huge boost in his confidence over the past year and a half. We started his twin brother in it as well, and he's also loved it. Master Shin is absolutely phenomenal. He runs a very structured and tight ship but he's funny, engaging, and the kids all love and respect him. His wife Mrs Shin is a black belt, is at almost every tiger class, is also super engaging and friendly, and knows every child's name from day 1, it's pretty impressive. They have at least 3 other black belts in the Tiger class to assist and they are so hands on (we especially love Ms Kolby!). I originally posted a review 5 years ago and after all this time I still give Master Shin's TKD five stars! Nine years ago two of my children started at Master Shin's. My son earned his black belt and then decided to move on to other activities, but my daughter has continued her training with Master Shin. This school does a wonderful job of instilling discipline, respect, and self-confidence in its students. We have been part of this taekwondo school since my son was just one month shy of his 4th birthday. He started in the Tiger Class, and in the beginning, he didn't quite understand what to do. Thankfully, the instructors were incredibly patient with him. There were moments when I wondered if this was really the right fit for him, but each time we checked in, he always said he wanted to keep going. Over time, especially once he reached yellow belt, things began to "click." That's when he started to really pay attention and take it seriously. Now, as a red stripe, he is focused on learning forms, sparring, and kicking techniques--and it's been amazing to watch his growth. My child has grown up with this school, and the values he's learned here are now part of who he is. At home and in school, he shows discipline, kindness, and respect--but he's also confident enough to stand his ground when needed. I highly recommend this school if you want your child to develop not only martial arts skills but also the discipline and values to become a strong member of the community. My advice to parents, especially if your child is starting young like mine, is to stay patient. I just became a red belt, this is a very good class. Tae kwon do is not just an extracurricular, it's a way of living, the class has drastically improved my focus. I would definitely recommend this class because it helps with self control and focus also. It's really worth it. read more

Our son was four years old when we inquired about the program. He was having difficulty following instructions as well as concentrating on anything for more than a few seconds. We honestly didn't think that they would accept him, in fear he'd be a distraction to the other kids. Nor were we sure he'd be interested, as it would require him to focus for 30 straight minutes. He participated in a trial two-week offering and surprised us by not only following instructions, as best he could, but is legitimately excited for each class. Being so young, his skills were minimal, but they continue to improve with each session. From a parents perspective, Master Shin and Mrs. Shin are exceptional at being firm, yet fair, and have a way with the small kiddos that captures their attention while demanding a respect for the teachings. It's the perfect mix of caring with expectations. It's also great that the classes are quick paced where all students are involved, so there is next to no down time. Additionally, each class has multiple instructors that monitor the students, offering assistance immediately when a kid needs a little more guidance. My son is five now. He's earned some 'tips' while working his way up the belt ladder. For us, it's not about how well he knows Tae Kwon Do. It's how much he improves his focus, discipline, ability to follow instructions, and overall is enjoying the experience. I happened upon this place after seeing their ad in the San Tan News - they were running a special and I thought, hey why not? I'm in my 40s and had never taken martial arts until now. Was I surprised how much I liked it! A lot of credit has to be given to the teachers, Master and Mrs. Shin who are both EXCELLENT! They're great with the kids too. The first 10 minutes or so is for stretching, the majority of time is spent on conditioning which you do as a group, with the last 10 minutes or so spent in your belt group learning your curriculum. With euphemisms for exercises such as happy chair, mountain climber and motorcycle, they make it fun while your panting for air and wiping the sweat from your brow! There is nice comraderie with the other students, who come in all different shapes, sizes, and ages. My children are still young and are also able to come and hang out while I practice. It's a great work out, with classes small enough that you're getting individualized attention. If you're a goal oriented type person, it's time to check out martial arts - beats aerobics classes at the neighborhood gym any day! read more

My husband and I both love this school! The program teaches kids as young as four, which my son is. They are amazing with the kids and teach them TKD, with special attention paid to body and mind focus. They teach in a positive manner, reinforcing things done correctly rather than incorrectly. Very clean facility with knowledgeable staff. They have older kids, some with black belts, volunteering in class and helping the little ones learn - I love this!!! Awesome place. Was not familiar with Tae Kwon Do before this, but the experience for my 5 year old has been phenomenal. He is having fun/getting stronger while learning discipline and respect. The "3 year black belt program" turned into 4 years, and then 5 years. If your money is green, and you keep signing new contracts then you have a lower chance to receive your black belt imo. If a "world class" school cannot teach you well enough after 5 years, but they'd be willing to begin another contract, then please look elsewhere, and don't waste your money. Something's wrong there imo. read more

Master and Mrs Shin are wonderful teachers! My son started when he had just turned 4 and we've been attending the school for nearly a year now. I've seen such a tremendous growth in his ability to focus and sit quietly,not to mention how his coordination has improved as he's learned taekwondo positions. I'm so happy to see Master and Mrs Shin's firm, yet kind approach when handling my sometimes rambunctious kiddo. It's encouraging for the young kids to get to earn "tips" towards their belt upgrades at timely intervals and after they've shown they have mastered an age appropriate skill or have learned to say specific words/phrases in Korean. I've even asked Master Shin to speak to my son about particular behaviors he's had at home that we'd had trouble curbing. He really respects anything Master Shin asks him to do. I can't wait for my younger son to turn 4 so he can join the school as well. read more
