My Item, (a heavier glass item, that was fairly thick and sturdy) shipped by Island Packaging &…read moreShipping was damaged due very poor packaging. And although I stated the value in the request for a shipping quote, no coverage for the value was provided so I was only reimbursed for S100. I always state the value for a shipping quote, and I have never had a shipper not use the amount to provide coverage for damage, or otherwise offer the coverage if it is not in the quote. This is what you would expect, not that a shipper would ignore the stated value in the request. Island Packaging & Shipping blamed the carrier FedEx, but the damage was completely due to poor packaging of the item. I have had hundreds of shipments of antique and fragile items with no problems; this was not packaged well/safely. I understand that damage can occur due to a carrier, but FedEx is not at fault here - with the poor packaging of this item, it was destined to be damaged. I contacted Island Packaging & Shipping about the damage. They will respond to emails to get your business, but when you have a problem, they are extremely slow to respond and only after repeated emails asking them for a response. Regarding my damaged item, they stated the shipment was packed in accordance with industry standards for fragile items: 1 including a double-walled shipping carton rated for FedEx/UPS transit. The box was NOT double walled, it was a rather flimsy single walled box and was easily crushed, especially with the lack of sufficient packing material. 2 multiple layers of bubble wrap There was only ONE layer that was not sufficient 3 internal reinforcement There was none 4 air pillows to provide cushioning and prevent movement during transit There clearly was not enough if you were to rely on that, there was a lot of empty space that allowed the heavier item to easily move about and for the flimsy box to fail. Most of the pillows, over half, were deflated. The pillows didn't fill the void, and the item was NOT prevented from movement as shown by how the box was completely collapsed in. 5 packing peanuts were not used, as they are restricted in New York. Only Styrofoam peanuts are restricted, there are others available that would have protected the item. I requested reimbursement for my loss, but of course there was no response from them. They will not accept responsibility for their very poor packing that solely caused the damage.

But I had to go to Shirley, so thought, "I'll just go to the UPS store there." Huge mistake. There were two rods in two boxes. He said that they had to be in one box, and it would be $20 for a box. I laughed in his face and declined. He shrugged and said that then they couldn't take it. I departed. Found a box at home, and dropped it off at a UPS store in the city. At least they weren't as rude as the awful man in Shirley. I now understand why people will pay $5 a box in East Moriches to NOT go to Shirley. Hint: it's not the distance. It's that guy. Unpleasant. 0/10 do not recommend. There is a Kohl's RIGHT THERE, but it wasn't given as an option on Amazon. Ugh.

I called first and spoke with Amelia. she was so helpful, kind and professional. I asked if there was someone who can help me bring everything in when I arrived and she said definitely! Dave was extremely busy handling a lot of other customers but made time to help me bring in the hefty bags that were full. It was a lot!! I would highly recommend the Shirley location with its helpful and thorough employees like Amelia and Dave!! Thank you again and may God Bless you both! Robin G.

I've got about 16 case numbers and nothing gets done about anything. This morning two very heavy boxes were left on the front steps that I could not get inside. I had to call a friend who came by during their lunch hour to bring them to my side door so that I could get them inside. I don't understand what's going on with FedEx. Unless I contact them each time I have a delivery coming, the packages get left at the front. They even told me to set it up in my Delivery which I've done already years ago, and somebody at FedEx, who I spoke to through Twitter noted my account that all packages should always be delivered to the side door because of my disability. The drivers just don't care about their customers or maybe FedEx really isn't doing anything about it and just giving me case number of the case number. It doesn't get done... and each time I bring it to their attention they say someone's going to call, then they give me a case number and nobody calls and nothing gets done. Very disappointed in FedEx. UPS always brings everything to the side door after asking them one time. Going forward, I will not be sending packages via FedEx, I have no control of what comes in when I order online, but I will no longer be using or supporting FedEx to ship. I will be using UPS. It's a repeating problem with FedEx that never gets fixed, just empty promises, more case numbers, no phone calls, and no resolution. what a disappointment the Bohemia office is. tired of the lip service. they don't GAF.
