Sadly today he unclogged a tennis court drain and charged me 481.50. He charged me by the hour to regale me and my painter with stories of his father's passing when he was 5 years old, and the decent rearing his mother gave him and his sibling despite her single parent status. Then he went on about the new house he moved into after living with his mother and stories of a movie star (Chaz Palmiteri) that he installed sprinklers for, who owned a German Shepard that bit him on the buttocks and drew blood. He included a lecture about people who sue for such things but not him, no sir. Finally he told me how his uncle had trained him as a plumber and put in a plug for his previous employer Michael Palotta and his blue trucks and his father Cesar who had passed away. He also sent me on a wild goose chase suggesting my sprinkler main was broken and it was not. He continued to experiment with ideas of what might be wrong with my sprinkler long after my irrigation expert assured him over the phone that the main shut off was closed. He even called him back to ask more questions after he had been told the system was working perfectly and is monitored remotely by an app which would have shown problems. After all this blah blah he charged me by the hour. Very dishonest!!! I tried to suffer his jabbering politely as I am a physician and know some people are lonely and need to vent, but I never intended to pay for his therapy! Beware of people who think they deserve payment for wasting your time.

A foul smell in the laundry closet made this an urgent repair issue. We hired JDM Contracting to do the job, which entailed removing 15 running feet of plaster wall on the other side of the kitchen wall, removing a portion of the laundry closet wall, replacing the drain pipes and water pipes for both the kitchen and laundry, replastering the walls, and repainting. I couldn't believe that the bedroom wall would ever look as good as it did beforehand, but it was perfect, thanks to the plasterer who was a master craftsman. Mickey Bagley was a pleasure to work with. His men were professional, highly capable, courteous, trustworthy, reliable, responsive, punctual, and as unobtrusive as you can get in this kind of space. It was such a relief to have someone that I could count on to do a great job.

We hired Just Call Joe LLC for a large project including a full kitchen renovation, coffee bar, enlarging our pantry opening with barn doors, two bathroom renovations (one expanded), lighting in several rooms, a ceiling fan installation, utility room renovation, roofing work, and installation of an electrical subpanel. Unfortunately the experience was extremely frustrating. The project start date kept getting pushed back and once work began there were about 12 no-call/no-show days, constantly delaying the project. The biggest concern was the quality and safety of the work. The electrical work was not done to code. The subpanel had neutrals tied to the ground bar, cut wires inside the panel, and incorrect wire gauges that could have created a fire hazard. Plumbing work repeatedly leaked and had to be redone multiple times. At one point there was a suspected gas leak and instead of using proper detection equipment Joe tried checking with a lighter. I had to purchase a gas leak detector because he did not have one and insisted there was no leak in the crawlspace. Bathroom work also created additional costs for us. Joe was unable to properly install our shower doors and had to redo tile work, which forced us to buy additional tiles. His incorrect measurements also caused us to purchase the wrong size vanity. Other workmanship issues included sloppy caulking, improperly supported drain pipes, improper water heater ventilation, and incorrectly installing a ceiling fan that I had to fix. In the kitchen he installed cabinets without removing the protective floor paper underneath them, which is still visible today. Another issue involved windows he claimed were picked up. After terminating the job we learned he never picked them up and had only placed a deposit. He promised to reimburse us but never did despite multiple calls and messages. The only work that turned out well was a butcher block table and shelving he built. Due to the delays, no-shows, safety concerns, and additional expenses we incurred, I would strongly caution others before hiring Just Call Joe LLC.

Kenny is a long-time plumber from a family of plumbers. He strikes me as a decent, considerate, and sensitive guy. Let's hope for the best as we see how this situation plays itself out.
