Those who know me well & have read my previous reviews know that I'm all about the craftbeer scene in ATX. I have a few choice spots whenever I'm searching for unique beers & East 1st Grocery is the latest one added to my list. Located on East Cesar Chavez at the edge of the hipster-infested "east side", East 1st Grocery looks like your average conveinence store/gas station. Aside from an awesome beer selection, they also carry other local products & certain provisions that keep you from possibly going to the grocery store. Reminds me alot of Live Oak Market, my other local beer store. Did not talk to any of the staff during my visit so my review (and rating) could change in the future but for now this place is great IMO.

I'm new to Austin from the northeast and damn, am I glad I bumped into this place. This surprising little gem in East Austin is easily one of the best beer stores I've visited in the country. It may have an overall smaller selection than stores such as Spec's or Total Wine, but the size of the selection is comparable, and we are talking quality over quantity here: stand outs include unique selections from Pairie Artisan Ales, Cigar City Brewing, and possibly the widest offering from Bruery Terreux that I've seen outside of their Anaheim, CA brewery. If you're looking for new beer recommendations, talk to Sam; he's friendly and a great source! The prices are fair; not insanely marked up like other beer hotspots of similar quality. If you're a beer fanatic like myself and haven't been here, then I highly recommend you swing by and support this outstanding local business. Bonus: The B's Kitchen, one of the best food trucks in all of Austin, sits on the property of the store!!

Great local grocery with an AMAZING beer selection. The owner was very friendly and helped us find exactly what we were looking for. Definitely check it out if you're in the area.

You walk in and immediately know you are not in some polished Instagram cocktail lounge. It is loud, a little gritty, and full of people who are clearly there to have a good time and not pretend otherwise. The beer is cold, the Lone Star flows like Texas water, and the vibe is pure old school Austin. And yes, the legendary bathroom situation deserves its own paragraph. The men's room features a giant ice filled trough for a urinal, which feels like something out of a 1970s roadside saloon documentary. Somehow it is both ridiculous and perfectly on brand. It actually becomes a conversation starter because you walk out laughing and immediately tell your friends they have to see it and go pee. The crowd was friendly, the bartenders were quick with the beers, and nobody was taking themselves too seriously. I ended up staying longer than planned, drinking Lone Stars and talking to random people like we had known each other for years. If you want craft cocktails served with a rosemary sprig this is not your place. If you want a hilarious, slightly chaotic, authentically divey night in Austin with cheap beer and great stories, Dirty Bill's absolutely delivers. Five stars and I would go back in a heartbeat.

The aromatic fog smelled incredible, and the drink itself tasted like a refreshing cucumber-jalapeño cocktail. My only downside was how close the tables are together. Everybody around town knows that when you go to guest house you're supposed to look your best. Anytime I feel like dressing up and going out to dinner. I know this is the place to be because everybody else around knows and respect the unspoken rules. This time around, however, we wanted to pop over for happy hour right after watching the US vs AUS game. I had an extra change of clothes in my car, but most of the people with me didn't. I called guest house ahead of time to see if they could fit us in with some people wearing not the fanciest clothes. And they told us as long as we're not wearing athletic wear we're fine. That led to only one person having to go home and change before we went there. And they welcomed us all with open arms, even though I showed up with two extra people on my reservation. Leah was our server and she literally was the best part of our meal despite the food being top-notch. We ordered nearly everything on the menu. Devoured the tuna and salmon cones. Absolutely loved the spicy rigatoni. The burger, which I believe is the best burger in Austin, the chicken tenders, the wings. The desserts every single thing was impeccable. Since a lot of my friends were coming to the guest house for the first time with me after we were all done eating and stuffed to the T, I ordered the group 2 slices of their House bread and told everyone to just trust me. The number of people that literally begged me to not do that because they were too full was insane and in the end when they all tried the bread they were like, thank you for staying persistent and introducing us to this incredible revolution. Because that's exactly what their bread is. A buttery flaky, heavenly blend of a croissant and bread that straight up melts on your mouth. I can keep going on and on about this place but never ever ever have I ever seen a drop in service here no matter how busy they are.

Draught House is German inspired with a nice, big beer garden and the way the inside looks it seems like you may have walked right into a German restaurant or drinking establishment with all of the dark wood and lighting. I believe you can get food from a food truck , possibly things like sausages which I'm sure are good but we brought in some food from a grocery store as we wanted something lighter and more vegetable forward. Their beer selection here is quite large and choices are pretty numerous. I decided to go with an Amber Ale it was very good! The name of it was called Cold Comfort. Flavor features to enjoy with this particular beer are malty, sweet, caramel and breadiness. The beer had a nice carbonation level too! All the flavors blended and melded together quite nicely which was nice. They certainly do know how to make beer and it was nice to get a beer type that I don't get as often. And BTW you can only order online with a qr code (this is always a bad customer experience imo). And just like this, the customer service isn't up to part. The fish is fantastic with a crispy hand batter. The fries were the absolute worst. Not crispy and tasted like I took some non name brand fries and threw them in an air fryer. And for $13 I expect more than 4 oz of fish. Sure there were plentiful fries but when they're that bad we both wasted money. But coming back to the service, with 3 empty bottles of malt vinegar and an empty ketchup dispenser and one guy working, of course I'm going to rate the service as bad. Surprisingly, the restaurant wasn't very busy, so we were expecting a smooth experience. We ordered the bottomless mimosas, the chili crispy chicken eggs Benedict, and the chicken and waffles. The standout dish was definitely the chili crispy chicken eggs Benedict. It was flavorful, very filling, and easily my favorite thing I ordered. I would order it again if ever come back. The bottomless mimosas came pre-made in a pitcher, which was convenient, but they tasted more like juice than champagne. If you're expecting a traditional mimosa, you may be disappointed. Unfortunately, the chicken and waffles were our least favorite dish. The chicken batter was very thick, little to no seasonings and had a yeasty flavor, and the waffles were much sweeter and cakey than expected. The flavors didn't balance well, and my boyfriend wasn't able to finish even a third of his meal. Service started off well and our waitress was friendly, but as brunch went on we found ourselves having to flag her down multiple times for refills and assistance. Since the restaurant wasn't particularly busy, this was surprising. The biggest downside was the value. For the prices being charged, we expected a higher quality dining experience. While the eggs Benedict were decent, the rest of the food and service didn't quite justify the cost. The ambiance was also lacking. For a brunch spot, especially one we chose for a birthday celebration, the atmosphere felt pretty flat and didn't add much to the overall experience. Overall, there were some highlights, especially the eggs Benedict, but there were enough misses that we left feeling the experience was average rather than memorable for a birthday celebration.
