We hired K&D Landscaping for a large front and backyard landscaping project. Before making our…read moredecision, we obtained several bids that varied significantly in price. K&D's proposal was the most expensive, but it included a landscape architect and project management. We had also seen other projects they had completed and believed their reputation justified the higher cost. Unfortunately, our experience did not meet those expectations. The project was originally estimated to take approximately 2 1/2 months but ultimately took about 9 months to complete. Because of the issues we experienced during the project, we filed a complaint with the California Contractors State License Board (CSLB) and participated in their mediation process. Through CSLB mediation, we reached a settlement with K&D for more than $20,000. If you are considering hiring K&D Landscaping, and would like to learn more about our experience, including what went wrong and the challenges we consistently encountered throughout the project, feel free to send us a private message. We would be happy to share our experience and discuss some of the pitfalls we believe future customers should be aware of.

Despite having an unfortunately wrong-spelling for the name "Brian", working with him was a great experience. He was transparent about pricing, availability and walked the site to talk over things in detail. We worked through some options for what might have to happen if the water lines near some of the plants were too shallow. He also stopped to talk to me when he discovered some old french drains near one of the trees in the front. I appreciated being consulted all along the way to make sure I was involved in decisions. The price was very fair, the work was done efficiently, and I haven't had any issues about 5 months later. In scheduling the work there was issue with one of his smaller grinder equipment that he was open about needing to repair and he kept me up to date on the repair and we worked out a timeline that was good for me. I appreciate tackling a project with a hard worker who has great communication and doesn't hide potential challenges with the environment or unknowns.

The job was finally completed, but not without owner, Daren, kicking and screaming. I will never…read morehire Daren again and do not recommend him. Situation: I hired Daren at over twice the bid of others as thought he would do the job right and good timing. Our garage /yard was flooded from an ocean storm surge with several inches of sand and we needed cleanout leaving areas "nice and clean" Reality: the place was a mess when I inspected to give Daren payment. There was still sand/debris of up to 4 inches in multiple areas throughout. You could barely see the red pavement below all the sand still in garage and backyard and entry areas) (see photos). When I requested Daren finish sweeping sand away, he became combative and said he did the best he could and would not do more. He threatened to sue me and put a lien on my house if I did not give him a check immediately. After I refused to pay him till job was finished per our contract, he reluctantly sent his guys to finish job. When I gave Daren his check and said how disappointed I was with his earlier threats, he continued to insult me ( and my neighbor who was with me as well). All I was looking for was a thank you for my business and a sorry he did not do the job right the first time. I have never experienced this lack of professionalism in my 30 plus years working with contractors. That is why a one star even though job was finally completed. Buyer beware.
