You will definitely find something special and enchanting here. I had to limit myself because I had to keep in mind what would fit in my luggage, but I was still able to have a good haul. This store has the usual categories for museum gift shops, like jewelry, gifts and children's toys, but there were also some more offbeat categories like dog toys and clever housewares that really make the assortment stand out. They also serve coffee and I think some light bites here, so there are some tables set up to enjoy that. The girl at the counter was super- nice too- it just felt like a really cool place to hang and discover neat stuff. If visiting the Wolfsonian, I would 100% recommend capping off your visit here. I'm so happy with the items I got, and would easily comeback on my next trip to Miami Beach to acquire some more nifty things.

Opened to the public in 1995, the Wolfsonian was created by millionaire Mitchell "Micky" Wolfson, Jr., a Miami Beach native and collector and expert on modern design, architecture, and the decorative arts. He began acquiring much of what makes up the collection in the 1970's and he stored it at the Washington Storage Company facility on Washington Avenue in Miami Beach which is a building from 1926. By 1986, 90% of the building housed his collection so he bought the building and established The Wolfsonian Foundation in order to preserve the collection and make it available for research. In 1992 architect Mark Hampton to expanded and renovated the Washington Storage Company building, converting it into a museum and research center. Hampton and architect architect William Kearns created a modernist lobby, museum café and shop. Upstairs are permanent and temporary galleries along with a library, offices, and storage. The museum is one of seven campuses of F.I.U. University. The gift shop for the museum is a very unique and elegant space. Displayed on a beautiful 1915 shelving system by Snead & Co, the Design Store sells a carefully curated collection of design inspired travel accessories, stationary, bath items, household goods, watches, jewelry, clocks, toys, and books that include award-winning Wolfsonian publications. I loved the cat yoga magnets, children's toy flamingo, and book, and note cards. The is the perfect place to find a unique gift for someone or something for yourself. The Cafe is a brand new addition to the museum and it serves ethically sourced coffee, drinks, cake, and pastries The Wolfsonian partnered with the Nandan Estate, an organic farm in the hills south of Nilgiri, at 4000 feet in Tamil Nadu, India. The coffee picks up the flavors of the cardamom, black pepper, chill and orange from the trees also grown on the farm. The café at the Design Museum is their second espresso bar to open. ,A museum entrance ticket entitles you to a ten percent discount at the cafe. You don't have to pay a museum admission to visit the Wolfsonian Design Store + Cafe. There is a separate entrance on Washington or you can enter from inside the museum. This summer is the perfect time to discover the Design Store + Cafe because the ground floor of the museum is free all summer as the upper floors of the museum are renovated and closed to the public.

I visited here around 1 PM on a Monday in November. There was one person finishing up a big shop and chatting with the employee as we walked around and looked and interacted with all the little trinkets. It's so hard to even describe the store because there's any and everything here. In the back right, there were clothing. In the front right of the store, there were magnets and other things for your desk. In the front left of the store and along majority of the left wall, there was everything from essential oil of candles to incense. In the middle of the store, it was a mosh pit of everything else you can think of that is inspired by south and Southeast Asian culture. I go to the swap meet, flee market, and cultural stores a lot and this place was a bit cheaper than what I seen in other places. The only downside to this place is that it is overstimulating. I love colors but even this was a bit much for me. I was visually overstimulated. The smells were a bit overwhelming. I was just not prepared for that.

The coolest thing was dried fruit earrings (think dried and glossy dragon fruit and strawberry earrings- now when have you ever seen that?!) I wish I remembered to take a picture of some more of items before I gave them away as gifts! I did buy a pair of astronaut earrings for a friend that loves space. The best part, there is poor reception in this particular location so you are distraction free as you peruse the aisles for your next decor find. This location has furniture, and there is always a good mix. If you purchase something large, they have a friendly carry out team that can help you load your car - and I realized they offer delivery, too! I always visit this spot for their really good selection of home decor and kitchen essentials but as I go to pay I am always reminded of their phenomenal beauty section, too! Where else can you shop and get pillows, throws and a killer vitamin c serum, too. They've also got clothes and shoes, too. Now I will say - the line here is always CRAZY...BUT thankfully these folks have filled it with wonderful knick knacks as you check out to keep yourself distracted. I only hope you have better will power than me, because inevitably as I wait there about $30 more of items get thrown into my cart. Case in point - a night light USB charger that I picked up yesterday. I also have to give a special shout out for their customer service. Yesterday I purchased a large item that did not fit in my car. I had to coordinate to find a car that would fit said item and called the store not once but twice for them to take measurements of the piece. I thought that was so kind and much appreciated! My advice, don't come shopping here when you absolutely need something specific. The laws of Home Goods finds don't work that way. You never find exactly what you're looking for - ie I went in for a desk yesterday and left with tons of other things EXECPT a desk. BUT what you need will always find you. My next piece of advice- when you find something you really like - buy it. You never know if it will be back when you return. Thanks home goods, for always having something special (and cheap) for me to take home!
