Had a friend visit from Phoenix who wanted an Italian beef. Been wanting to try the Duck Stop since…read moreit opened down the street from me and figured this would be the perfect time! Duck Stop didn't disappoint and rivals the food you'd get at Portillos! Beef was tender and flavorfully delicious. Lots of menu items. While the travel center itself is no Buc-ees, there are plenty of snack and drink options at the store if you're not looking for hot food. The friend enjoyed it so much, we went again before heading to the airport! While he had another beef, other menu options were tried. Here's some pros/cons i that I experienced... PROS- - Everything cooked fresh - Beef was delicious - Those fries and tots were spot on - Burger and chicken tenders were better than average - Pricing not bad CONS- - Fountain soda center---lots of options but the options we chose all tasted watered down. Grab the ice and a bottle from the plentiful options in the store. - Paying .99 extra for a little cup of giardinera? Bring in your own jar instead! This place will def be my go-to for a beef and tots!

That should tell you something about the experience I have there. The selection has yet to let me down. The prices are good. The deli is great! But the true value of this place is in the staff... They are AMAZING! I could share any number of stories but Ive settled on this one for today.... I was sitting in my car about 30 minutes before they opened. The workers and what looked like delivery people were moving about their business in and out the doors. The Owner, Dennis, came over and invited me in. He knew that I was most likely there for deli items and volunteered that there was someone back there who would open up for me. I go back there and sure enough there was someone back there.... But he was performing a full pre-start break down and cleaning of the deli! I was about to swerve and busy myself with other stuff but he was right on it! asked me what I needed and got me situated with a smile and a genuineness that you can't fake. As I made my way to the checkout, I see Dennis waiting there to ring me out personally. As I'm walking out of the store, he runs out and stops me to introduce himself properly. As a small business owner, that level of service and willingness to stop everything for one customer means something.

There's tons of seating for the cantina and market itself. Love good for a quick lunch! Don't have to fight for a seat! The market itself is on the high-end side. I love that they have dinner kits packed. Very helpful on those nights you wanna take the guess work out of dinner. They have a full on butcher section so you can find a protein you want. Don't cry for me, Argentina. This is basically my dream evening. Alone doesn't mean lonely for this little lady. I've got my opinions to keep me warm. Hashtag Favorite Valentines. After sitting in mind-numbing traffic for a 3-hour drive from the north shore, I started to get the 4th meal hunger pangs, but was dreading the thought of going out to eat on Valentine's Day and having to look at people who weren't stars of the show 'Oz', my current obsession, if yo haven't figured that out already. I decided to utilize the #3 speed dial on my phone and put in a take-out order at Downers Grove's Thai Cafe... only everyone else in the area had those same plans so instead of my order taking the typical 15 minutes, it was going to take 35. My plan was to wait it out in the strip mall parking lot and go in when could see my order come up through the window so I would have to talk to as few people as possible, but then I saw Downtown Food Mart just a storefront away in the same strip, and decided I'd spend my time in the rather dicey looking convenience mart in hopes of them having Takis, my favorite snack/breakfast, lunch, dinner food. I go in, and think, 'erm, this place is kinda set up like a crap hole.' Empty displays, weird non-stacking of 89 cent cat food cans that for whatever reason made my blood boil, and no Takis in the snack and chip aisle. What the hell? This place is NOT for anyone with a hint of OCD. I still had a good 15 minutes before my bulk Thai food order would be ready, so I decided to continue to peruse every aisle, and the more I looked, the more I liked. They had a pretty good selection of wine. It's over-priced, obvi, but pretty much all the wines are discount wines anyone so still nothing that'll break your bank. I was super pissed about the non-presence of Takis until I got to the marquee, front and center stand by the register that was chock full of Takis. Like, 4 different kinds, and all were super cheap at $1.39, compared to the $2.49 I'd pay at other grocery stores. Bada bing! I'm checking out and the guy behind the counter doesn't mention anything about the stupid non-holiday that's occurring, which I greatly appreciate, and instead asks if I like spicy stuff. Well, heck yes! I live for spicy! And then he proceeds to give me his spicy food recommendations and we swap ghost pepper stories for the next 5 minutes and part by exchanging names. His name is Raj. Raj is awesome. I will be back to purchase more Takis (possibly also overpriced wine and cat food if the hour is right) from Raj.
