The place is always busy. But they also have some good, crispy, seasoned, fried chicken that they only serve Mon thru Fri from 10AM to 2PM. Whoa. This is not your ordinary gas station. The ladies in the deli were so sweet. They said, "Well. This is more like a deli with a gas station built around it." Right on. This is one high-end gas station. They have a milk shake bar. Fresh pastries. Custom-made sandwiches and fresh fruit. Hot meals like chicken with mashed potatoes. I just needed a massive ice-cold Diet Coke, which I received for a very reasonable $1.19 plus tax. But I would totally come here for lunch, too. read more

Yikes. I mean gas is gas but the gas here is always 5-10c higher than the BP across the street. I already didn't love the staff's nonchalance attitude during the worst of the pandemic. But we come here a lot for convenience to get candy, drinks, coffee etc. However I think will be putting a pause on that, last week there was a news article that someone left there keys in the car, ran inside to buy something and their car got stolen! HINSDELI The deli here is fantastic. Great cheese and meat selection, fresh produce and a wide variety of breads are crafted by a friendly and fiery team into amazing and delicious sandwiches. There are great menu options such as Karen's combo, a corn beef/roast beef sandwich, and the Hot Gobbler, a turkey sandwich. The weekly specials are plentiful and tasty. But honestly, the ability to craft your own custom sandwich stands out above all other sandwich places in the area! Personally, my favorite sandwich is the Karen's combo, however, I ask for it the "Glenn way" which adds a spicy twist to it by adding a touch of horseradish and swapping in pepper jack cheese. All on marble rye, of course! Ms. Laura or Ms. Karen will send it through the oven, although you could have it pressed in the Panini maker if you like, and this amazing sandwich is good to go! Seriously, skip the fried chicken, skip the premade sandwiches, and take the five minutes to have a bite of heaven hand-crafted for you! You will not regret it. The convenient store has a food drink and snack selection too... I recommend the bbq 'Dirty' brand chips! Look past the fact that this is a gas station. It feels wrong referring to it as a "gas station" actually, as it houses a fine selection of wine, large walk-in beer cooler, huge and attractive deli, gourmet dog treats and...wait for it.....it's one of a few places I can still find cherry Life Savers (see my profile). Best. Gas station. Ever. I work nearby and have frequented Shell almost daily for snacks, drinks or gas for years. One day I actually asked the owner, John, what he does to make his employees so happy. Rarely do I go to any establishment that ALWAYS has friendly, positive people working. Shell is the exception to the rules. Everybody here is smiling and willing to help with anything every time I go. On top of that, they have a great selection of regular gas station food, plus a full deli with awesome sandwiches, salads, fried chicken, pizza, hard-boiled eggs, smoothies and many other unexpected items. It will have you telling your friends about the great meal you had at the gas station. I am proud to say I have received many a cocked-head response to my Shell lunch stories. She is a hard worker and appears to acknowledge each person by name and know how they like their sandwiches. WOW, cant beat that! Highly recommend this place. For lunches, and quick grocery items. This is the Taj Majal of gas stations and natch it's located in lovely Hinsdale. Super clean, decent prices and a deli that rivals most classic deli style restaurants. They also have fried chicken and I'm a sucka for fried chicken from a gas station...must be the Southern girl in me. Down south it's not a full service gas station without fried chicken. :-) Do NOT knock it until you try it! They also sell beer and wine. DECENT beer and wine. Yep they do. Most employees have been here for years and it has a friendy, small time vibe. Parking lot can get a bit crazy at peak times to watch our or you may get side swiped by a Benz, Rover or Porsche. Located on the Eastern edge of DuPage county, you won't pay Cook county taxes here. Big plus. read more

Good soup as well. It's quite clear that the word is out. The place is busy pretty much non stop all day with people from all over the Chicagoland area who happen to be in the area who have generally been here before. And obviously well located. Its surprising what's inside the doors here as most wouldn't think there's a full service deli inside. They also had fried chicken available, which I didn't think was in the menu. The grilled chicken sandwich was a decent sized piece of white meat, especially for a measly $5. I work in the area and wondered why this Shell station always had big crowds at lunch time. Well its because it has an excellent deli with many types of hot and cold entrees. Sandwiches are very good, soup is good try the california medley, split pea and the best is the clam chowder on fridays. Staff is very friendly, seems to be many of the same customers there every day including the police which is always a good sign. Defintely better than the close by other fast food businesses near by. Surprisingly solid deli offerings in this Hinsdale gas station. I'd tried a sandwich here a few years ago and decided to check it out again for a department lunch meeting. I called in the order an hour ahead of time and it was waiting at the deli counter as promised. All the staff (and there were sufficient numbers to manage the lunch rush) were personable. They offer fried chicken now (cajun recipe) if you want something a little different. OK, its a gas station, but this gas station has a deli and has all the Basics you need when you run out of food at home! They just started to sell beer and wine as well so a great quick place to pick up your last minute booze. Gas prices are typical in this location and for the brand. I work in the area. When trying to figure out what to go eat one day for lunch, I asked a co worker what they were going to get. The response: "ehhh Ill probably just run over to the gas station real quick" I felt kinda sorry for her that she was going to eat some sorta cheap food from a gas station till she came back with lunch. Her lunch looked so good that 2 days later I tried this "gas station" myself. Turns out the Shell Gas Station has a large deli inside. You can get lots of different types of sandwiches, hot or cold, soups, hot dogs, chicken, pizza etc. The sandwiches are made to order and are good. My favorite probably being a corned beef sandwhich I had toasted on a sourdough roll with hot peppers. I tried the fried chicken, I wouldn't get that again. Pretty greasy and not that great of a flavor. Their soups are so so, nothing to write home about, but not too bad either, they will for sure do in a pinch. Their pickles are awesome, as is the service you get here. The reason I don't go more is honestly the price of it. I had a half sandwhich, small soup, whole deli pickle and a Coke Zero and it cost close to $10. That seems a bit steep to me for what I actually got. Over all, good food, pretty quick and friendly service, expect to pay over $6 if you want more then just a sandwhich. read more

In fact, the inside is called the "Hinsdeli" and they have very good fried chicken and bisuits, as well as some delicious items in the full-service deli counter. I'm so sorry if this offends you, so here is a warning: If you, or anyone you have respect for, works at a gas station, you might want to skip this review. Okay loyal listeners, as I was disparaging. I always told myself and my mother, and for everyone else I know it just goes without saying, that if I ever had to work at a gas station, I would submit to death immediately even if it needed to be self-inflicted. Now, my gas station experience is not abundant as I don't smoke, get excited by rotating hot dogs, nor have bathroom emergencies, so please consider this before reporting me to the gas gestapo. What I do have, however, is Milky Way cravings that make me hungry like the wolf. Remember in the Breakfast Club when the principal is talking to the janitor and says something like, "no one would become a janitor because no one has the dream as a child to clean up sh!t when they grow up." Well, I'm sure this wasn't the plan for anyone at the Hinsdeli, either, but they could have fooled me. I don't know where management found these people, but they seem to like their jobs. Who knew? Maybe they're on to something that I neglected in my arrogance, and for that, I will pay for the rest of my life as I work at a job I hate. They are the sweetest, and an exception to my general gas station distaste. In their quest to forge the path in full service mini marts, they have a delie which is called the Hinsdeli. The mini mart itself is much larger than most other and even carries the chocolate stuffed Oreos! My manager, a life-long Hinsdalian once recommended after repeated requests that the Shell gas station is a good option for lunch. I looked at her for a while waiting for a Syke!, but she was serious. The salads are decent, and most lunch options are prepared fresh that day. I am impressed. read more
