CAR PARKING FINE A NASTY SURPRISE
Two of us ate in the restaurant, my brother seemed happy with his meal but I found my liver inedible. Surprising, because I didn't think anyone could make a mess of that.
However, I would have put that down to experience if a parking fine notice hadn't slipped through my letter box abot 10 days later. It came from an outfit calling itself Countrywide Parking and demanded £100 for breaking some unspecified parking rule in the Eagle & Child car park. If I did not pay immediately it would rise to £160. A few days of trying to contact the Eagle & Child by email brought no results until a local informed me that the manageress was Abigail. That helped eventually to establish contact but no more than a shoulder-shrugging, handwringing response. Evidently it was above Abigail Smith's pay-grade to do anything about this. Ms Smith did imply that it was Greene King's policy to use Countrywide to police their car park. Later I discovered that this is NOT a Greene King pub at all but one of a small chain run from Sale in Cheshire belonging to Hegstrordinary Publs Ltd. I am currently trying to contact one of its directors, Mr Steven Heggs. read more
