Being situated so out of the way in a residential area means it is almost certainly frequented only by customers from the adjacent houses, like the Rovers Return but without all the unrelenting rubbishness that comes with being in Coronation Street. This works both for and against the Masonic's appeal. In the daytime, with its 'news room' and pleasantly pubby decor, it's a relaxing spot for an afternoon pint. At breakfast time, there's a coffee machine and teas, juices, a few pastries, and some hot food including sausages, bacon, scrambled eggs and beans. There's also cereal and oatmeal. It looked like the lunch options which come out at 11am are better. Today's menu features sweet potato and chickpea curry and mushroom Alfredo penne pasta. The creamy porridge was pretty much out and the last tiny bit had congealed to the bottom of the pan, and when you lifted the lid a bunch of water dumped in. At 9:45 am, I asked the staff if they had anymore porridge and they were pretty skeptical and resistant to bring out a new batch which I think was a bit silly. Lunch food wasn't even coming out for over an hour (not until 11 am). She did thankfully bring out a small portion which was very liquidy, which made me definitely wonder how long the original batch had been sitting there (probably since opening at 4:30 am!). There's also a full bar and ask any local here; they always have a drink at the start of their holiday, no matter the time, so this is essential for Liverpool. There's several seating options, but not too many outlets (only along the walls). Overall, it's a very basic, mediocre lounge, but thank you Priority Pass -- a lounge is always better than no lounge!

It hostes a selection of guest ales including my personal favourite german larger Warsteiner and various other real ales all worth a try. The small pub does offer food but I'm yet to try any, so I can't comment on the quality but all looks rather nice. The staff are as warm and friendly as the surroundings making it the ideal place for a pint and a bag of nuts after a hard days graft.

Maybe that was just me. With one side taken up by the length of the bar, this is an ideal place to prop up and spout lies to anybody who will listen. Aside from that, there isn't much to do in the pub but shuffle round trying to wedge yourself into conversations until you get frowned at or slapped. Still, at least there's a quiz machine.

Proximity, ease and the alcoholism that he'd pass on through the generations make me think that this place was his local and if that's true, then he did us proud. The Victoria is a cozy, affable pub with enough charm to fill Lake Windermere and plenty of corners to sit in and slurringly philosophise your way into the early hours. Live music, quizzes and a good selection of draughts give you no particular reason to leave. I'm just peeved I don't live five doors away.
