If you are in the market for a suit, but don't want to spend too much, then I would suggest a visit to E-Rave. They specialise in tuxedo and wedding attire, but to be honest, I would probably only use them for such a special occasion if I were getting a bunch of matching bespoke groomsmen's suits. But not wanting to focus on any sort of negative, I do like them for their speed, simplicity and low cost.
They make suits fast, and could turn something around in 24-48 hours. I have never needed it so fast, so get mine made in a leisurely 4 days. However, I have been in the shop with a visiting tourist as they ordered and measured, whilst booking a second fitting for 4 hours later, in their hotel room, for final delivery 8am the following day. Not bad!
When I say simplicity, I mean that you are best going into this store with a set idea of what you want. Sure, the tailor is skilled, and will cut here and cinch there, but I would be wary of asking too much advice on style. If you ask about trouser pleats, collar widths, or button holes, the response is usually, "whatever sir wants". Consider these guys good at copying your favourite suit, whether real or in a photo, and making it fit well.
The cost is reasonably low, and this is probably due to the lower quality of the fabrics. I do find their light weight fabrics a bit polyester feeling, and once the fake silk lining has been added, I don't think it's lightweight and breathable anymore, but then you get what you pay for. Pay more you get better fabric. The tailoring costs are the same. A typical three pieces would set you back around HKD3500-4000, which for a tailored suit is relatively cheap.
There are a number of stores, but I would recommend the one in Wan Chai. It is a bit small, and if there are other customers, you do start doing the fitting dance around each other, but I do find the tailor here good. The last manager I dealt with (who has now moved to another branch) was a bit of a pain in the proverbial, because he would start dealing with another customer whilst half way through your fitting, but this is fairly typical in HK, where there seems to be a fear of losing a sale if you don't engage immediately.
If you want a cheap(ish) tailor made suit, definitely gives these guys a whirl. You won't be blown away, but they are good enough for the cost read more
