I had been hearing for years about the bespoke tailors of Hong Kong. When my wife and I booked a week vacation in the city, I knew I was going to have to get some custom clothing made. As a long time yelper, I found Empire and their good reviews and decided to stop by their storefront off Mody on our first morning in HK. We were greeted by Nick who walked us through the different options and fabric choices. I have been in need of a navy suit for quite some time and I settled on a 3 piece suit. If you are going with a bespoke suit, you might as well get the complete package! I also ordered a pair of pants, a sport coat, and 3 custom shirts. Most places in the US tend to not have french cuffed shirts so it was nice for me to be able to get several custom ones made. Since we were in HK for a week we had several fittings. Nick, Andy, and their team during the first fitting made small but noticeable suggestions to my suit. Taking up the sleeves a small amount and adjusting the jacket even the smallest amount made a big difference to the look. I was impressed by their expertise and skill. I would suggest that you try on everything before you leave HK. On the day before we left, I decided to try one of the custom shirts that I had not tried on yet. It turned out that it was just a little smaller than the other two that were fine. Empire's tailor was able to let it out just a fraction of an inch and fixed the shirt in under an hour, so it was not a big deal. You are dealing with bespoke clothing, so it is a good idea to check the fit of everything. I first met Mark Asaf, manager of Empire Tailors, in San Francisco in June 2024 during their U.S. "roadshow," and ordered two suits and three shirts. I was delighted with the product once I received them, as the suits were of excellent quality and value. In October 2025, I met Mark and his brother Azim again in San Francisco during their 2025 "tour," ordered two additional suits and two shirts (they no longer include three shirts in their package), and paid in full. I was supposed to receive the clothing in December 2025, or January 2026 at the latest. Seven months have now passed, and I have heard nothing. I have reached out repeatedly through their What's App number; written emails; and inquired through their online contact form. I have been completely ghosted. This is incredibly upsetting, but also very peculiar because their customer service with my first order was so outstanding. Since I literally cannot get them to respond, I will be obliged to contact my credit card company and lodge a fraud claim. Pros: Multiple fittings, different packages based on your price point Cons: None that I can think of I've always wanted to get a tailored suit. Since I was in Hong Kong on vacation, I figured this would be a great opportunity to get one. It was pretty easy to get to their location from the MTR. I took the red line and got off at Tsim Sha Tsui Station and took the P2 exit. Their location is only a block up from that exit. When I got there, I was greeted by a friendly individual named Nick. Nick showed me various suit and shirt packages based on the quality of fabric I wanted for my suit. I opted for two suits and three shirts. Once you know what you want to get, you get to go through their fabric books to select what patterns you would like for your suit and shirts. Nick provided input on what patterns and colors complemented each other. Once I selected fabrics and patterns, another tailor came and started taking my measurements. Once all the necessary measurements were collected, they told me to come back in a few hours to try on an initial shell for my suit. This was definitely a lot faster than I was initially expecting so that was a pleasant surprise. When I came back for my first fitting, I tried on the initial shell for my suit. It was missing a sleeve and the pants were missing buttons and a zipper, but I could definitely get a feel for how the suit would fit. After I tried it on, the tailor went through and made some adjustments using pins since I wanted a slimmer fit. After the first fitting, Nick said to come back the next day for my second fitting. When I came back for my second fitting, all my shirts were ready so I tried those on first. They fit perfectly. I'm a pretty short guy, but my neck is kinda big, so I always have issues finding dress shirts that have the right sleeve length and the right neck size. With these tailored shirts, however, both the sleeve length and the neck size were perfect. After I tried on my shirts, I tried on one of my suits because only one of them was ready. The suit unfortunately needed a little adjustment. The pants weren't as slim as I wanted them so the tailor came by and pinned them so they were a little tighter. Nick assured me that they would be ready for pick up the next day with all the necessary adjustments finished. When I came back for the last time, both of my suits were ready. When I tried them on, I felt great. The pants fit perfectly and both suits had the exact same fit. Overall, I was impressed with the whole experience. It was awesome seeing my suits getting created from start to finish. Nick also made the process relatively painless. He was very accommodating and made sure that my suits and shirts were finished before I headed back to the US. After living in Hong Kong for 9 months, it was high time I got a custom made suit. I googled the hell out of places beforehand and came up with a list of the usual suspects sourced from places like reddit, asiaexpat and here on Yelp. It was down to Sam's and Empire when a good friend of mine told me he was headed to Empire to pick up a suit he's had made - so I tagged along, figured I'd do some low key secret shopping. Empire has several rooms in an old shopping mall in east tst, about half a block from the east tst p2 exit. The mall has seen better days but none of that has rubbed off on empire tailors - the signage is fresh (no sun faded crap from the pre handover days here) and the place clean and impeccably organized. We met with Ummad, who handled us Personally and I peppered him with questions about style, fit, trends and fabrics. He offered us a drink- water, coffee or San Miguel - and by the time my friend had tried on his suit and approved it, I was sold. I browsed some fabrics and made an appointment to come back for a proper session. That appointment went smoothly and Ummad walked me through style choices and options, offering advice based on my target 'look.' On more than one occasion he counseled me AWAY from more expensive options and fabrics -which I always see as a great sign. I live here so there was no reason for a two or three day turn around- I had two fittings and took my time picking up the suit. Several customers came in for quick turnarounds though- so I know they handle them. I'd call ahead if that's a concern for you. I'm sure they can accommodate rush schedules. Bonus: they do trunk shows in the US, so when I'm Back in the states, I can conceivably keep working with them. Overall, a great experience- highly recommended. read more

For full disclosure, this is my truthful opinion of my experience at Empire Tailors. I was offered a shirt as incentive to write a review, which I have taken. The shop did not appear to offer the shirt for a specific review, just that a review was being done. This shirt would not have changed my opinion, as I was initially going to rate this shop as a 5. However, upon further learning of how a custom suit should fit a body, I have downwardly revised my rating to a 3. I walked in at the end of September and inquired about whether it would be possible to make a custom suit and shirt in 5 days. The salesman, Nick, who I believe is also one of the partners, thought about it and said it could be done. Nick consulted me through the initial fabric choice and walked me through all the options available within a suit. As a first-timer, it was quite daunting. I ended up going with a Navy Blue suit from a fabric Empire's In-house 2017 collection ($4976 HKD). I am assuming it is a Chinese-made fabric, but I quite like it, regardless of origin. I went with a fancy lining in the jacket, which I am also very happy with. I came in the morning, and the first basted fitting occurred that afternoon. It was a half-jacket baste, as seen in the photos and which is common in this price range. For comparison purposes, my higher-end commissioned suit at Ascot Chang had a full jacket basted fitting, but their construction and price tag is also in a much higher bracket. I will say that in the future, I will perform a sitting test during the fitting, in order to account for size changes of the quad muscles. After the fitting was completed, Nick assured me that the suit would be ready in a couple of days. If Day 1 was the first day I walked in, then Day 4 was the day I went back to pick up the suit. I was initially happy when I received the suit. I requested a fitted, slimming suit, and I did think it was a bit on the tight side, but it fit better than any other OTR suit I've had. I left the shop a happy customer. Upon further education of what a custom suit should fit like, as well as taking some photos after the fact, I did notice some flaws. The shoulders have slight divots, the back does not lie flat under the collar and is tight, showing wrinkling right around the upper back, the sleeves wrinkle around the bicep area after a full day of work (which may not be a valid concern), the dreaded x of tightness appears when the jacket is buttoned, my waist / belly bulge appears, and the trousers are not cut perfectly and wrinkle as a result. Whenever I sit down, because I have large quads, the trousers are at the tightest possible without bursting. The Empire house cut is an Italian cut, and thus it is fitted. I feel like in my case, it's VERY fitted. However, this was a 5-day order and, I'm hoping, with more time, fittings and adjustments, they could have gotten this suit fitting perfectly. read more

Have to echo the rave reviews. However, you do pay a premium compared to the other tailors (the cheap suit hustlers) in TST...but well worth it. I had two fittings and ended up with a great suit. Quality tailor and friendly service. If you're willing to pay for a better quality suit... there's no reason to go anywhere else. read more

I was visiting Hong Kong, from Los Angeles, on a three-week business trip and always wanted to find a tailor that could not only make me a bespoke suit and shirts but could also provide suits and shirts in the future when I needed for other occasions. I did quite a bit of research on different tailors in the Hong Kong area and different price points each of those tailors offered. Though Empire Tailor's price point was slightly higher than some of the other options, their reviews were outstanding, so I decided to give them a visit. When I first arrived, I was greeted by Anthony. He was extremely honest and upfront from the start about pricing and timing, which I appreciated. There was never a point where I felt I was being upsold into getting something I did not want. I came in with some example images of suits that I wanted to replicate and they made suggestions on the material. We were able to agree on suit material and price in a short amount of time. I then returned for two different fittings throughout my trip (which I would recommend) and by the third time I arrived, the suit was completed and perfect. I could not recommend these guys enough. Extremely professional and best in class at what they do. If you are going to invest in a bespoke suit, do not cut corners and go with one of the cheaper tailors. I wanted to get some custom shirts, but I was very wary of all of the random fly-by-night tailors in Hong Kong. After a little research, I decided to give Empire a try. I went to get three shirts made. They gave me books with hundreds of fabric choices, but they all were separated into shirts that were HK$399 or HK$799. (about $50 and $100 USD). I wanted fabrics that were white with some thin/light patterns in them. I was surprised at how few fabrics that were available that met that criteria. Thankfully, I found three and they were all in the HK$399 price point. I felt that HK$699 was just too much for something I wasn't confident in. Anyhow, the measuring and tailoring process went really well. They had the shirts ready for me in three days and they all look and fit fantastic. The fabric is a little thin, but I guess that's just a product of the cheaper price point. read more

I walked into Empire Int'l Tailors on a Saturday at 3 PM, not planning to buy a suit as I was leaving the following Tuesday. There's no way they could make me a quality suit in time, I thought. Well, I tripped, fell, and bought a suit on the spot after being told that I could have the suit ready by Monday evening. After measuring me, I picked out a great fabric. The tailor told me to return at 6:30 pm for a first fitting. Upon arriving, there was an incomplete version of my suit for me to try. This is a great place to have a suit, shirts, or sport coat made. We found them through a recommendation from our hotel and after doing a little internet research and we weren't disappointed. They are a class act. Not one of the high-pressure places you can go. They have great fabrics to choose from ranging from the affordable to the very high-end. The staff is great and the quality of work amazing. I've worn the sport coat and shirts made there for year. What's even better is that you don't have to go to Hong Kong. They've recently come to our city and I decided it was time for another suit. The process for making an appointment was great and responsive. I'm a returning customer and wanted to share my two very positive experiences with Empire. I first read about them in an article in the NY Times a few years ago. I was in need of a new suit, checked their web site and made an appointment for their upcoming visit to San Francisco. I ordered two suits and three shirts after being fitted in their hotel suite. The whole experience was fantastic. The staff was very patient and helped me choose fabrics and style, and the fitting session was very thorough. About two months later, they shipped one shirt and one suit, asking me to check the fit. The suit was perfect, by far the best fitting clothing I've ever worn. The shirt collar was slightly tight, not bad but just a bit, so I wrote back and asked them to loosen the next shirts. A month later the second suit and other shirts arrived and fit perfectly. Several months ago I found they were visiting SF again and decided to order two blazers and two more shirts. I wore one of my suits and shirts so they could check the fit, but no changes were needed. Once again they were very helpful, and I now have two perfectly fitting blazers and two more great shirts. Buying from Empire has been so positive that I can't imagine shopping anywhere else. They have fine customer service, friendly and thorough staff, and a totally professional operation. The fit and finish of the clothing is perfect, and I feel great wearing it. What was originally a two-night stay in Hong Kong got extended last week, so I decided to take advantage of the extra time by having some suits made. I immediately consulted Yelp and based on the reviews, I sent an email to Empire to request an appointment. However, before they responded, I decided to take a chance that they could accommodate me as a walk-in. I was in luck! After the initial measurements that morning, I returned at 5:30 that evening for an initial fitting, then a second fitting the following evening. I checked with a number of tailors, but no one could do just what I wanted in the limited time that I had in Hong Kong. After many hours of on line research before heading to Hong Kong, I settled on Empire to have some clothes made while I was there and was not disappointed. I made an appointment before I left Atlanta for Hong Kong and met with Andy when I arrived. I told him what I was looking for and how much I wanted to spend. He patiently walked me through all of my options and I settled on 2 suits, a sport coat, 2 pair of pants and 4 shirts. I was really concerned about how many fittings I would have. From past experience with some custom shirts I had made, I just didn't' think one could get the perfect garment from one fitting. Empire went above and beyond. I had 4 fittings (the 4th really wasn't needed, but Andy wanted to make sure everything fit just right). The garments are of high quality for the price paid and they now have a customer for life, especially since they have my measurements on file. Andy will mail me swatches and I can order on line and have the clothes mailed to my home. I'll never buy off the rack again. It was a wonderful experience and if I don't attend a trunk show when they are in the US, I'll probably go back to Hong Kong at some point, just to say hi. That's how good they are.
